Chapter 42 is dead?

Bai Jingquan got up early in the morning as usual to work on the mountain, while the lazy Li Qingyan was still sleeping in. Yan Yinran had been suffering from insomnia all night and only fell asleep close to dawn.

Bai Jingquan usually finishes his farm work around 11 a.m. and gets home by noon at the latest, but now it's almost 2 p.m. and he still hasn't returned.

Li Qingyan waited anxiously at home, while Yan Yinran was still asleep.

Just as Li Qingyan was about to go out and go up the mountain to take a look, Pang Jiayi rushed to her house.

"Auntie, something terrible has happened! Uncle Quan fell into the river behind the mountain. When we found him, he was already dead. We couldn't save him."

Two other people followed behind Pang Jiayi, and they carried Bai Jingquan home on a stretcher.

This terrified Li Qingyan, turning her face deathly pale. She collapsed to the ground, realizing that her husband, whom she had always relied on, was dead. Why was this happening? Unable to accept this fact, she leaned against the wall, covered her mouth, and burst into tears.

Hearing the crying, Yan Yinran opened her eyes in a daze, opened the door, and saw Bai Jingquan lying on the stretcher. She was so frightened that she took a few steps back. He was soaking wet and his face was pale and bloodless.

"What...what's going on?"

Pang Jiayi noticed her. "You must be the biological daughter that Uncle Quan just brought back, right? Uncle Quan... he died, he drowned."

Dead? Nothing happened? Yan Yinran didn't feel happy about it. Although she could rightfully return to the Yan family now that he was gone, he was still her biological father! She couldn't accept this fact.

"How...how could this be?" Yan Yinran stared at Pang Jiayi in disbelief, her voice trembling slightly.

"It's all your fault! You're a jinx! You killed your father! We've been together for so many years without any problems, how come something happened to him as soon as you came back!"

Li Qingyan, her eyes bloodshot and completely out of control, blamed Yan Yinran for Bai Jingquan's accident. She charged at Yan Yinran in a frenzy, grabbing her hair and attempting to hit her. Fortunately, Pang Jiayi stopped her.

“Auntie, now is not the time to argue about this. The most important thing right now is to let Uncle Quan rest in peace. Let’s quickly notify the rest of the family to come back and handle the funeral arrangements together.”

This was the first time Yan Yinran had ever come so close to death. Yesterday, he had looked down on him and despised him, and today he was gone. Yan Yinran simply couldn't believe it was real.

Li Qingyan notified her family, but the Bai family only had Bai Jingquan left, with no other relatives.

Pang Jiayi and Lin Chenxuan (Bai Ling) were childhood friends. He hesitated for a moment, but finally dialed Lin Chenxuan's number.

"Ling'er, your father... has passed away. Please come back..."

Pang Jiayi found it really difficult to say. He knew about the delicate relationship between Bai Ling and his father, but he still had to let her see him one last time. He had to tell her such a big thing.

"How could that be? Dad has always been in good health." Lin Chenxuan felt that this couldn't be true.

"Uncle Quan drowned in the river behind the mountain. My friend and I found him today when we were passing by. He wasn't breathing when we pulled him out!"

"Then I'll go back now."

Lin Chenxuan grabbed her phone in a panic and ran out the door. Even though their relationship was lukewarm, he was still her father who had raised her for eighteen years. Without him, she probably wouldn't exist.

Only after getting into the car did she send messages to Lin Zhengzhong and Yang Mei. Lin Zhengzhong and Yang Mei told her to fulfill her filial duty one last time, and to be more careful so that her stepmother wouldn't bully her anymore.

The other end

Yan Yinran grabbed her phone and ran out of the house to a deserted place.

"Hey, Mom, waaaaah~"

Hearing this, Li Shuwen asked anxiously, "Ranran, what's wrong? Why are you crying?"

"Mom, my biological father is dead..."

"What? What happened? How did it happen so suddenly?"

Sitting to the side, Yan Youting was shocked. Ranran had returned home, and her biological father was gone? This was too sudden! He had come over to listen in because Li Shuwen said it was Ranran calling, probably to share her life there, but he never expected this…

“I wasn’t used to having insomnia last night, so I only went to sleep this morning. In the afternoon, I vaguely heard someone crying, so I got up. When I opened the door, I saw my father lying on a stretcher, completely soaked and pale. The person who found him said he had drowned…”

Yan Yinran cried as she spoke, “My stepmother just said I’m a jinx, that I’ll bring him to his death as soon as I come back.”

"Such a thing really happened?"

No one wants tragedy to happen, but why say such things to Ranran? Li Shuwen was extremely angry at this moment.

"Ranran, after all, he is your biological father. Although there is no affection between you, you still have to fulfill your filial duty there. After your father is buried, I will have Uncle Ye pick you up. Your stepmother doesn't sound like a good person, and your father is worried about you being there."

Yan Youting expressed his true thoughts, and Li Shuwen listened from the side and was very supportive.

Yan Yinran's eyes flashed with surprise upon hearing this. Before she could even say anything, her father had already spoken up. Her father still loved her as much as before.

"Okay, I'll follow Dad's arrangements. That's all for now, I'll hang up now."

"Okay, be careful."

Yan Youting was still somewhat worried.

"Do you really think such a coincidence exists? Ranran just got back, and the very next day... This is just too much of a twist of fate!"

Yan Youting couldn't help but tell his wife what was on his mind.

"Sigh, we should have let Ranran go back in the first place. That way, they would have had more time to spend together, and maybe this wouldn't have happened."

Li Shuwen also sighed, wondering if she had let Ranran go back sooner, would the father and daughter have had more time to spend together? Would this have prevented such a thing from happening? Perhaps it was fate?

Li Shuwen then told her elders, her five sons and daughter, about it. Everyone was very surprised. Except for Yan Xiluo, who remained silent, everyone else agreed to take Yan Yinran home and continue raising her as their adopted daughter.

Meanwhile, Yan Xiluo was performing acupuncture on Deng Ling at the Lan family's residence and had no time to pay attention to the messages in the group chat.

After giving Deng Ling acupuncture, Yan Xiluo turned on her phone and saw dozens of unread group messages. Yan Yinran's biological father had passed away? Was this too much of a coincidence? Yan Xiluo shook her head. Perhaps she was overthinking it. Maybe it really was just a coincidence. If so, then Yan Yinran was quite pitiful. She had only just reunited with her family the day before this happened.

"If none of you have any objections, then I have no objections either. I was busy just now."

Yan Xiluo replied to the group message. Most of them had lived in this family for eighteen years and had feelings for her. She wasn't a petty person and could tolerate her. In Yan Xiluo's eyes, Yan Yinran's petty tricks posed no threat to her as long as she didn't bother her or do anything excessive.

If she doesn't agree, her family will probably be heartbroken. They didn't have much interaction with her to begin with. As long as she stays, her family will be happy.

After receiving Yan Xiluo's consent, Yan Youting and Li Shuwen finally felt relieved. At first, they were worried that Yan Xiluo would disagree or mind, but they didn't expect their daughter to agree so generously. It has to be said that their daughter is truly beautiful inside and out.
