The countdown above jumped to "22:25:19," and a cold, mechanical voice broke the silence: "[The hero's sacrifice deserves praise, but the outcome of defeat cannot be changed. Next, the second documentary will be played, this time featuring: Shadow Assassin.]"
The beam of light shone again, and this time, the scene was filled with the strong smell of gunpowder as soon as it appeared: a broken road, burning flags, the very place of fierce battle from the fragments of everyone's memories.
There were countless monsters around Shadow Assassin, and he was right in the middle of them all. His armor had long been torn to shreds, and his body was covered with deep wounds that revealed the bone. Blood gushed from the wounds, soaking his clothes and pooling into a dark red puddle at his feet.
But his back was straight, his hand holding the longsword was as steady as a rock, and his eyes were as sharp as an eagle's as he stared intently at the approaching monster, without the slightest hesitation.
"A bunch of scum, daring to block my way?"
Momentum aside, reality is reality. The monster's attacks grew increasingly fierce; his leg was broken, and he collapsed to his knees, yet he still used his dagger to support himself, refusing to fall.
Finally, the three monsters pounced at the same time, their tentacles, flames, and poisonous stings landing on him all at once.
Shadow Killer let out a deafening roar, and with his last bit of strength, hurled his longsword at the monster leader at the front. His body was then torn apart by the monsters, turning into a cloud of blood mist.
The image freezes on the moment he throws the dagger; in his eyes, there is no fear, only the resolute determination to protect to the death.
The screen went dark, and the small print reappeared.
"The leader of the China region died after 4101 days of assassination."
The entire venue fell silent once again.
Before anyone could process their emotions or thoughts, the third video clip appeared, featuring...those who weather the storm together.
The scene wasn't as thrilling as "Fortune and Longevity" or "Shadow Kill." At least they weathered the storm together, and everyone was alright and unharmed. Three vehicles were driving side by side on the highway, and his wife and... a child who looked only a few years old could be seen in the scene.
She doesn't resemble their daughter at all, and her age doesn't match either.
Behind the vehicle came a deafening roar. In the rearview mirror, a dark mass of monsters surged in like a tide, their scarlet eyes flashing in the black mist, instantly engulfing the end of the road.
As the horde of monsters drew ever closer, Feng Yu Tong Zhou gritted his teeth, a resolute glint in his eyes. He abruptly turned the steering wheel, ceasing his escape attempt and instead speeding off in the opposite direction.
"Take the child and leave!" he roared. "Wife, I love you!" Then, tears streaming down his face, he turned and left resolutely!
Time was of the essence; there wasn't even a moment to say another word. "No!" his wife cried, trying to rush back with him, but then she looked at the little girl beside her, her eyes also red from crying...
They floored the accelerator and sped forward, while their companions were already swallowed up by the monster horde.
After the video ended, no further text appeared, but the ending was still just as tragic, and everyone's eyes welled up with tears, including Qi Xu's.
In this game, some fight with force, some sacrifice themselves with courage, some uphold hope with kindness, and some fight against despair with perseverance. But the result seems to be the same for everyone, so is there any point in persisting?
