736. Living off one's parents (1/2)

So Qi Xu quickly suppressed her angry expression, tried her best to make her bird face look cute and adorable, ran over with small steps, smiled ingratiatingly, and made a cute little "chu mi chu mi" sound that made even Qi Xu herself melt.

She refused to believe it, and the big black bird kept swatting at her with its wings! But three seconds later, Qi Xu believed it, because she was swatted away again.

Being fierce is useless, acting cute is useless, Qi Xu can't even pull out a single survival coin, so offering gifts is pointless...

He simply curled up and covered his head to avoid getting beaten up again.

Peeking out from between its wings, the little bird looked helpless. It wanted to hit the big black bird but couldn't bring itself to do it, and it couldn't help but paw at the ground in a state of agonizing indecision...

Qi Xu recalled all the details of arriving at the treasure map's secret realm.

This bird must be... the mother? After all, being nestled on its back, buried in its feathers, and feeling its heart pounding was truly, truly heartwarming.

Indeed, only a mother would show such a conflicted expression when she sees her rebellious son; she dares not hit him too hard, but she can't bear not hitting him.

When the big black bird stopped hitting him and started cursing, Qi Xu was surprised to find that he could understand it.

"This little thing has only been hatched for a few days, and it's already grown so capable! It can't even walk properly yet, and it's already thinking about flying? If I had come back even half a step later, it would have been smashed into a puddle of mud, and then it would have flown straight up to see its great-grandmother!"

"Luckily, when I came back from hunting, I saw you weren't in your den and rushed over to look for you. Are you trying to drive me crazy? You dare to get angry and throw a tantrum? You're asking for a beating!"

"And how many times have I told you, don't peck at the dry branches near the nest with your little beak! If that thing breaks, you'll fall down and get carried away by a wild cat. Where will Mom find you then? If you do that again, I'll slap your wings ten times to teach you a lesson!"

The big black bird was furious, especially looking at the little thing, who showed no remorse, looking completely bewildered, curious, and dazed. It felt like its heart was about to jump out of its chest. What a tragedy! What a tragedy!

Out of sight, out of mind, and too lazy to say anything more, I went straight back to my nest, brought over the little insect I had just caught, and threw it next to Qi Xu.

"Hurry up and eat, you little rascal! I'm really fed up with you. If you break your wings, you might never be able to fly high again..."

The big black bird pawed at Qi Xu with a worried expression, only relaxing after confirming that she had no additional injuries. Its eyes were half loving and half fierce, extremely contradictory, yet also extremely warm.

Qi Xu's parents both passed away early, and he wasn't close to either his grandparents or maternal grandparents. They only made a phone call every year during the Spring Festival, so they were considered relatives, but in reality, they hadn't visited each other for many years.

In addition, she is an only child, so she has always lived a very solitary life since her parents died in a car accident. During her three years of high school, which coincided with her adolescence, she was a bit stubborn and had a strong sense of self-esteem.

I didn't like being looked at with pity and sympathy, so I hardly spoke a word throughout my three years of high school. Although my grades kept declining, I still managed to get into a pretty good university in China.

I tried part-time jobs, and as I gained more experience, I became smarter and more accepting of things. I realized that my personality was not right and that I couldn't integrate well into society, so I took the initiative to change.

I got along fairly well with my roommates during my four years of university. Unfortunately, I had trouble finding a job after graduation. But luckily, my writing skills were decent enough that I was given a job by Tomato, which turned me into a solitary online novelist who could stay home 24 hours a day.
