743. The Great Blackbird Clan (2/2)

Qi Xu had prepared himself mentally, but he was still shocked by the blood and corpses all over the place. He stood there frozen for a long time, unable to move.

These big things that I've spent every day with these past few months are now lying cold and lifeless beneath the icy stones...

All the elders who had looked kind and called themselves "little rascals" were dead. Qi Xu searched everywhere and finally only managed to save one.

Its name is "Red". It is the fourth chick, which hatched earlier than the fifth and sixth chicks. Because it was protected by several strong, large black birds, it was able to hold on until now. Qi Xu's wings were worn raw and bleeding, and he was so tired that he could not stand up at all. Only then did he successfully move all the stones off Red's body.

"Red" was also desperately crawling out, looking at Qi Xu and the surrounding scenery, and finally couldn't hold back her tears any longer and burst into sobs...

Qi Xu was also crying, because she didn't know what else she could do besides cry.

All the preparations had taken so long, only to be wiped out by the moment a sleeping behemoth happened to pass by. Apart from that, almost all of the tribesmen died.

The blackbird clan, including its parents, is now reduced to six members and one unhatched egg, whose survival is unknown.

Hong lay beside Qi Xu, her wings still twitching slightly, tears soaking her disheveled feathers. Her cries of "Father, Mother" echoed through the deathly silent valley, making one's heart tighten.

Qi Xu knew she couldn't stay here any longer. Being constantly overwhelmed by grief wasn't good for her wounds to heal, nor was it good for preparing for what was to come and for her to continue living.

So they left with Hong in a very forceful manner, blood seeping from the wounds on their wings, dripping onto the ground and leaving a trail of dark red marks.

Qi Xu first took Hong to find Xiao Wu and Xiao Liu. Contrary to his expectations that the two little ones would be frightened, the hardships made them grow up quickly.

Not only did they build a simple little nest for the broken eggs, but they also gathered a lot of dry twigs from the surrounding area.

Seeing Qi Xu and Hong, Xiao Wu and Xiao Liu finally felt relieved. They hugged each other tightly, keeping each other warm and relying on one another.

After observing the area, I found that it was a small flat area protruding from the center of the cliff. Although the area was small, it was very well hidden, especially when the sleeping giant beast could not see anything.

If we can move the stinky grass here, and remain completely still and absolutely silent when we hear the sleeping behemoth approaching, it should be considered safe.

The sleeping behemoth holds grudges. Once it recovers, it will surely wreak havoc on the area around the valley, so this is a good place to hide.

Just then, the broken egg moved, and the originally fine cracks on the eggshell spread out along the lines with a soft "click".

Qi Xu and several large black birds instantly held their breath, forgetting even the pain of their wounds, and all gathered around the small nest.

More and more cracks appeared, like a fine net covering the eggshell. Then came a series of "clicks" as a small opening was made at the top of the eggshell, revealing a tuft of wet, dark, sparse fuzz.

Everyone's hearts were in their throats, and they dared not breathe, for fear of disturbing the new life in this desperate situation.

"Chirp...chirp..." A faint chirp, as soft as a mosquito's buzz, came from inside the eggshell, and a tiny head slowly peeked out from the tip of the pale yellow down.

Qi Xu breathed a sigh of relief. The little life born from such dire circumstances was also a hope for the Great Black Bird clan...
