Chapter 417 Kel'Thuzad's Voluntary Death (Part 2)
After Arthas led his army away, Richard walked out to the place where Kel'Thuzad died. Richard had been watching the whole process here. Arthas and his men had been paying attention to Kel'Thuzad, and did not notice Richard in the shadows at all.
Richard walked to Kel'Thuzad's body, covered his nose, and used magic to collect the body for him. At this point, the part that Richard needed to do in the transaction between Richard and Kel'Thuzad was completed. Richard put Kel'Thuzad's corpse in Fina's hands, and Fina put it away with some disgust. There was only his bones in the box but no soul. Kel'Thuzad's soul had already hidden in Arthas's body with Richard's help.
Kel'Thuzad himself actually had a way to hide in Arthas's body, but the risk was great. Kel'Thuzad himself was a dark creature, and Arthas was a paladin who could use holy light anytime and anywhere, and holy light was really an essential energy to restrain dark creatures. That's why he found Richard who had similar purpose. Richard used two kinds of energy for him. Shadow energy helped him to infiltrate Arthas, and the power of Holy Light helped Kel'Thuzad to be immune to the threat of Arthas' Holy Light. Since Richard's Holy Light had been assimilated in his body for many years, its ability to restrain dark creatures was greatly reduced and would not cause harm to Kel'Thuzad. However, its essence was still Holy Light and it was still immune to Arthas' Holy Light.
The two simulated it several times, and after confirming that it was feasible, Kel'Thuzad let Arthas and his men kill him so easily. In fact, Kel'Thuzad also had his own calculations. In Northrend, he gained true immortality, but now his body is not immortal. He is neither human nor ghost, so he chooses to die and then be reborn as a real lich. As for resurrection, he will not die as long as his phylactery is not destroyed. And only he knows where his phylactery is. Richard yawned and
called Onyxia. He had done what he should do. The rest he should just be a spectator and make corrections in times of crisis.
This night was very long, especially for Arthas. After a night of rapid march, they finally arrived at the outskirts of Hearthhold. However, before they entered, they heard the sound of various muskets and the air was filled with the smell of gunpowder. Alsace was startled. Could it be that there was something wrong here too...
"Hurry! Something seems to have happened inside!"
Alsace squeezed his legs together, and the spurs pierced into the skin of the warhorse. The warhorse neighed and galloped forward quickly. In a moment, he rushed into the Hearth Fort, but found that it was a false alarm. It turned out that the troops at the outpost of the Hearth Fort were training.
"Stop shooting! I am Prince Alsace! What happened here? Why are you fully armed?"
They put down their muskets and were surprised to see their prince standing in front of them. "Your Highness, you will never believe what is going to happen."
"Tell me about it." Alsace said.
It turned out that the people here already knew about the Undead Army, the resurrection of the dead, and the chaos everywhere. At first, these words did not surprise Arthas. But the word "a large army" surprised him. He glanced at Jaina, and she looked completely exhausted. The short rest did not allow the mage to recover.
"Your Highness," a scout rushed over and shouted, "that army is coming this way!"
"Damn it!" Arthas looked at the soldiers around him. Their number was not large (compared to the opposite side), and they could never defend this place with just these long-range ones!
"Jaina! My soldiers and I will stay here to surround this town. You go find Lord Uther and tell him what happened here! The outpost asks for support!"
"But you here!"
"No buts! Go quickly! It will be too late if you are late!"
Jaina nodded and used the little magic she had left to create a portal to Hearth Keep. Arthas turned around and his captain Falck was looking at him: "Your Highness, you'd better take a look at this..."
"What?" Arthas followed his gaze and his heart sank suddenly. An empty box... with the seal of Andorhal on it. With a lucky mentality, Arthas asked with a slightly trembling voice: "What were in these boxes?"
A man from the Hearth Gulch outpost looked at him in confusion: "It's just food shipped from Andorhal. Don't worry, Your Highness. The food has been distributed to the villagers, and we have baked a lot of dry food."
Arthas understood at once that this was the taste that was not like ordinary toast, not so fresh, and a little sweet and fishy. The real situation was so terrifying that his body shook when he realized this. The food had been distributed... a huge undead army suddenly appeared...
"Oh, no." He whispered. People stared at him, and Alsace tried to say something else, his voice still trembling, but this time it was not out of fear, but out of anger.
The plague was not just going to kill his people. No, no, it was darker and more twisted than that. It was going to turn them into...
Before Alsace could think of the next words, the man who answered Alsace's question suddenly bent down. Several others made the same move, and their bodies emitted a strange green light, which flashed and gradually became stronger. They fell to the ground, clutching their stomachs, and the blood spurting from their mouths soaked their shirts. One of them held out his hand to Alsace, begging for healing, but the prince shrank back in fear, watching him struggle in agony and die in just a few seconds.
Looking at his corpse, Alsace stared at himself with wide eyes in disbelief. The man had just begged him to heal him, but as a paladin, he didn't even raise his hand. Although this might not work, he had to try anyway! What happened to him?
"Merciful Holy Light!" Faric shouted, "Food!"
His shout startled Alsace and woke him up from his trance of guilt. Food is necessary for life. Whether it is made into bread or steamed buns, it can fill the stomach, but now it is more like poison. Arthas wanted to open his mouth and shout to warn his men, but he found his tongue as heavy as clay.
Before he could organize his words, the plague had already taken effect. The dead suddenly came back to life. Arthas took two steps back. Is this Kel'Thuzad's army?
"Ahahahahahaha!" Arthas suddenly heard Kel'Thuzad's laughter. This sound was unforgettable. Arthas suddenly became nervous. Could it be... Could it be that he is back again?
