Chapter 449: The Sky of Dalaran (Part 1)
Kel'Thuzad glided peacefully beside him, and he seemed very happy after being reborn. This made Arthas very curious. Suddenly, Arthas remembered that Kel'Thuzad's body before the Aura was destroyed by him, so he jokingly asked: "Do you really not mind if I kill you once?"
Kel'Thuzad rolled his eyes: "The Lich King has already told me how our encounter will end."
Arthas was taken aback: "The Lich King knows that I will kill you?"
After getting a positive answer, Arthas frowned and looked down at the long sword across his thigh. Now it sleeps silently, without whispering, and the runes no longer shine with energy.
Kel'Thuzad looked at him with his mouth open, and his gloomy voice was a little proud: "As early as when the Scourge Legion invaded here, he chose you to be his warrior."
Arthas felt more and more unhappy. His fate was played by others like this! But now that he knows his fate, should he accept it happily? No, he decided secretly. He didn't want to be someone else's puppet, but he also knew that the sharpness of a sword comes from grinding. He must move towards his new destiny step by step, he must be patient... If he had known his destiny earlier, he and Jaina would still be together, and Uther and his father would still be alive... Thinking of this, Arthas laughed at himself twice. Where in the world would there be any chance to start over? If there was, wouldn't it be a mess?
Arthas shook his head and asked the question he had always wanted to ask: "If he is really omniscient and omnipotent, how could he be controlled by the fearful demons?"
"Because they serve the one who created my lord: the terrible demon of the Burning Legion."
This word made Arthas tremble. The Burning Legion, just a few words, somehow seemed to indicate an intoxicating power. Frostmourne also flickered slightly on his legs.
"That is a huge demon army that has destroyed countless worlds..." Kel'Thuzad changed his tone to a slightly mysterious one. Arthas closed his eyes and listened to the lich's narration quietly, gradually simulating scenes in his mind. He saw a red world shrouded by a red sky. A group of creatures swarmed down the ridge. They ran like hounds, but they were definitely not wild beasts. They had terrible big mouths full of sharp teeth and strange tentacles on their shoulders. Huge rocks with green tails fell from the sky, moving as if they had life and rushing towards the enemy.
"Now, it is coming to burn this world. My Lord was born to pave the way for the Legion's arrival. And the Lords of Fear are sent to ensure that he succeeds." The scene in Arthas's mind changed, and he saw an ornately carved portal. Although he had never seen it with his own eyes, he knew it was the Dark Portal. Green flames radiated from the portal, and a large group of demons surrounded it. Arthas shook his head, and the scene in front of him faded away.
"So the plague in Lordaeron, the fortress in Northrend, and the slaughter of those elves... are all preparations for a massive demon invasion?"
"No, these are just appetizers. Sooner or later you will find that the coming war will affect our entire history."
Arthas considered carefully. Frostmourne had obviously awakened, so he took off the armor on his right hand and stroked it gently. Cold, bone-chillingly cold. Even his hand that had passed the bloody test, the hand of the death knight, felt a sting when it touched the sword. He heard the whispers again, and then laughed.
"Not only that, right lich?" he asked, turning to look at Kel'Thuzad. "You said that those dreaded demons imprisoned our master. Tell me about it now."
Kel'Thuzad was no longer a flesh and blood body. There was no skin or hair on his body, so there was no facial expression to betray his inner activities. However, from the subtle changes in the undead flames on his body, Arthas saw the uneasiness in his heart. After a while, Kel'Thuzad explained to Arthas: "The first stage of the Lich King's plan is to build the Scourge Legion and eliminate any organization that may hinder the arrival of the legion."
Arthas nodded. "For example, the Lordaeron army... and the high elves." He felt an inexplicable tightness in his chest, but did not think much about it.
"The second phase of the plan is to summon the Demon King to launch an invasion."
"What is needed?"
"A special tome."
"Where?"
"Dalaran."
Dalaran... Arthas was a little stunned. Dalaran, that is the largest magic center on the continent of Azeroth. It is also the place where Jaina was trained. They had very good memories there.
"The most powerful mages in Azeroth are guarding Dalaran." He slowly said to Kel'Thuzad, "We can't hide our whereabouts. They will be ready to fight us."
"Like Quel'Thalas?" Kel'Thuzad let out a hollow laugh. "Think of how easily this army took Silvermoon City. The same will happen to Dalaran. Besides, don't forget that I was once a member of the Kirin Tor, and had a close relationship with Antonidas. When I was still a mortal, Dalaran was like my home. I knew its secrets, its defensive spells, and how to sneak in from places where they were least likely to defend. Those guys wanted me to abandon my path and destiny, and now it's my turn to punish them with terror. This feeling is so sweet. Do not be afraid, death knight, we will not fail. No one and nothing can stop the Scourge."
Yes, this guy was once a respected master.
"Okay, let's go."
In Dalaran, Jaina was still rejected by Antonidas. Her fleet had already arrived at Kozan Island, but after hearing about what happened in Silvermoon City, she immediately returned to Dalaran, trying to persuade the master to leave again. After being rejected, Jaina wanted to join them.
"I can help. I have learned enough."
The master stared out the window with his hands behind his back, looking calm as if he was watching students practice.
"No, you have other responsibilities." He turned around and looked at her, and the expression on his face made Jaina's heart sink. "That is the responsibility of Terenas and I, the responsibility that we both shirked. Because he refused to listen to that strange prophet, he died at the hands of his own son, and the entire kingdom was reduced to ruins and death. Protect the people you promised to protect. One more or one less doesn't make any difference now. There are others counting on you. Come on, kid."
