Chapter 36
This is a dead tree.
Its roots are intertwined, and part of them have grown above the ground, forming a semi-hollow underground cave.
The wolves dug open the small burrow with their claws, turning it into an excellent den that the entire pack could hide in.
The wolves are now hiding inside, one after another.
Xi Miao met a dozen pairs of green eyes but was not afraid. The pack of wolves was unusually well-behaved and did not come out to bite anyone when they saw someone appear at the entrance of their lair.
She went a step further, and they actually shrank back a little more.
Xi Miao scratched the tip of her nose.
No, is she really that scary?
Seemingly sensing that Xi Miao had no intention of attacking, the lead wolf even slowly crawled out.
It carried a piece of human clothing in its mouth, placed it in front of Xi Miao, and then slowly retreated.
The clothes were stained with blood. After looking at them for a while, Xi Miao recognized them as the clothes of one of the two people she had killed the night before.
Why did the wolves deliberately tear off her clothes and give them to her?
Xi Miao was puzzled. After staring at it for a few seconds, she suddenly remembered the pair of wolf-skin gloves in her backpack.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she took it out, the pack of docile wolves suddenly pounced on her like madmen.
Xi Miao quickly threw the wolfskin gloves into their den.
The howling of wolves came in waves, and Xi Miao recognized the sound as crying.
This was probably a wolf from the pack. The villagers hunted it down, ate its meat, and made gloves from its pelt.
After howling for a while, the leader wolf carried a small silver treasure chest out of its den and placed it not far from Xi Miao.
Xi Miao understood; this was a thank-you gift.
She glanced at the tattered pieces of clothing on the ground and instantly understood what the wolves meant.
The villagers of Werewolf Village have killed countless wolves, and these wolves probably wanted revenge.
If you fulfill their wishes, you might even get other treasure chests.
Xi Miao put the silver treasure chest into his pocket and said loudly, "Wait a day or two, it'll be fine."
The wolves seemed to understand, and they all stopped making noise.
Xi Miao turned and walked towards the outskirts of the werewolf village.
She always had a feeling that this so-called werewolf village was not as simple as it seemed.
In terms of habits alone, these werewolves clearly have the habit of howling and chasing the moon at midnight, yet they always insist on hunting during the day and resting at night.
They also have a distinctive appearance. The villagers have wolf fur on their arms and calves, are very strong, and have tails behind them. However, their faces show no trace of wolves and are just like ordinary people.
Xi Miao carefully avoided the villagers, found an empty house, and sneaked in to search it thoroughly.
She was observant and quickly noticed the anomaly.
It was a bottle of viscous liquid that looked like concentrated tomato juice.
Upon opening it, the aroma of blood hits you.
In addition, Xi Miao also found a few wolf hairs.
It didn't look like fur shed from a werewolf; instead, it resembled the fur of a wolf cub, soft and easy to comb, neatly arranged in rows in the cabinet.
A thought suddenly popped into Xi Miao's mind, so she decided to hide under the family's bed to see what was going on.
Not long after, hurried footsteps returned.
The man seemed to be in a hurry and went straight to the cabinet. Xi Miao, who was hiding under the bed, then heard a rapid swallowing sound.
She glanced up discreetly and saw him drinking large gulps of blood from the bottle.
After finishing his drink, the man didn't rush to leave. Instead, he picked up a few wolf hairs and gestured with them on his arm.
Xi Miao then noticed that the man's arms were smooth and without a single wolf hair.
"There are still two weeks left," she heard the man say.
Human gaze has energy, so when someone is being spied on, the person being spied on is more sensitive and will feel that someone is watching them, and will turn around to check.
The homeowner suddenly turned his head, as if he had discovered something, and walked towards where Xi Miao was.
The feet stopped not far away, and Xi Miao immediately nodded the hair clip on her head.
The villager bent down but didn't see anyone under the bed. He then stood up and checked the wardrobe and other places where people could hide.
"Strange, could I be imagining things?"
He muttered something to himself, still feeling uneasy.
This is a crucial moment in his transformation; we cannot afford any mistakes.
Thinking of this, he pressed the small button on the top of the wardrobe, and a series of clicking sounds came from it.
Xi Miao took the opportunity to peek as well.
Inside, there was a dark room, smaller than a toilet. As soon as it was opened, you could hear the cries of the cubs.
Xi Miao's heart tightened, she adjusted her position, and sure enough, she saw a wolf cub.
However, it was bald in patches, thin and looked like it was about to die, and you could see clear needle marks on its hairless skin.
The man immediately took out a syringe, inserted it into the wolf cub's leg, and began drawing blood.
The wolf cub's howl suddenly became shrill, and despite the force of the needle, not much blood could be drawn.
Xi Miao heard a curse.
"You little beast, don't die right now."
The man hesitated for a moment, then pushed the half-tube of blood into the bottle before taking out a piece of meat the size of an apricot, tossing it to the little wolf, and casually pouring a little water into the plate.
There was hardly any meat or water, and Xi Miao could tell that this person was just trying to keep the little wolf alive.
Shortly after, shouts came from outside. The homeowner responded, closed the mechanism, and hurriedly left.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Xi Miao came out, opened the mechanism, and stole the wolf cub.
When the mechanism was opened, the little guy was chewing meat with great effort, and he was startled when the door opened again.
It was just a tiny creature that was only as long as her arm when its tail was included.
Xi Miao's heart softened for a moment, and she pinched the mouth of the wolf cub and took it out.
Fearing the little guy would struggle, she deliberately took out the silver treasure chest and waved it near the little guy's nose.
This was given to her by the alpha wolf, and it carried the wolf's scent. Having this would at least deter the little guy from attacking.
Sure enough, once she opened her mouth, the wolf cub no longer intended to bite her.
Delay could lead to complications, so Xi Miao didn't waste a second. She immediately climbed over the wall and ran into the woods.
There were also many werewolves searching for players in the forest, but since it was approaching 11 o'clock, most of the werewolves began to head towards the mountain.
Xi Miao hid on the opposite side, took a detour, and safely returned to the hidden wolf den.
As she pushed the wolf cub inside, Xi Miao casually gave them a polluted sea fish.
This fish was classified as slightly polluted, but it had grown five eyes. Xi Miao couldn't sell it, and she couldn't bring herself to eat it, so she just left it there.
But the wolf pack obviously didn't care how many eyes the fish had. When they saw food, the alpha wolf came forward, carried it into the depths of the cave.
Xi Miao squinted to look and saw that it was carrying food to a pregnant female wolf.
The mother wolf was about to give birth; her large belly was clearly visible.
The wolf cub she brought back was still at the door, but it was a step behind the big fish and hadn't been carried back to its den.
As Xi Miao was pondering what was going on, she saw the leader wolf drag a treasure chest the size of two palms out of its den, drag it next to the cub, and then carry the cub back.
Xi Miao's eyes lit up.
This wolf den is like a treasure chest spawn point; even the rewards are so generous.
Another silver treasure chest!
