Chapter 18
Xi Miao got off the train and keenly noticed that the temperature on the ice field was colder than on the train.
The cold air entering her nasal cavity gave her a false sense of pain in her lungs.
Xi Miao touched her face to make sure the mask was on properly, then identified the location of the management office and headed in that direction.
In her dream, Xi Miao, like everyone else, chose to use her annual right to stay on the bus.
This area was unfamiliar to her; she had never set foot here before, so she had to be extra careful.
She soon realized that being cautious was the right thing to do.
She heard people cursing, the rustling of footsteps, and the sounds of fighting.
It seems she wasn't alone at this stop.
Xi Miao narrowed her eyes warily, leaned against the white ice on the surface of the ice field, and quietly looked toward the direction from which the sound came.
There were indeed two people fighting not far away, but it was too cold, and they were dressed like two bears. Xi Miao couldn't even see their faces, let alone tell who they were. She could only roughly tell that they were also players.
She hid herself and listened quietly.
"Weren't you barking quite loudly? Bark again, you dog!"
"You dare say I'm spineless? Today I'll show you what it means to be someone you can't mess with!"
"Go ahead and curse me! If I don't teach you a lesson today, I'll change the name of Dark Jungle!"
Most of the time, it's one person attacking the other, and the verbal exchange is also one-sided.
Xi Miao listened for a while, and when she heard the name Dark Forest, she looked ahead in surprise.
It turns out that the person dressed like a big black bear was from the Dark Jungle.
What is the other one?
Xi Miao had a guess in her mind, and quickly confirmed the identity of the person in gray from the curses in the dark jungle.
Brother Lai Cai.
Xi Miao had no interest in this fool, and had no intention of getting involved in the fight.
She quietly stepped back and chose to walk in another direction.
After taking a short detour, we quickly arrived at the management office and saw the permitted time to stay at this stop.
12 hours.
This ice field is vast, and it's impossible to explore the entire area in such a short time. We can only head towards places where treasure chests and maps might be hidden.
The ice blocks, varying in height, resemble small icebergs standing on the ice field.
The further Xi Miao went, the more ice floes she could see, as if God had sent down a massive hailstorm, and the ice field, a natural refrigerator, had frozen all the hailstones there.
Apart from the ice, Xi Miao could not see anything else.
Fortunately, the weather is overcast and there's not much sun, so the ice field isn't too glaring.
Xi Miao climbed to the highest ice mound nearby, trying to get a better view so she could find the treasure chest from above.
Instead of finding the treasure chest, they exposed themselves.
Hey! Have you found the way yet?
Someone shouted at Xi Miao from below. She looked down and tried to pretend she hadn't heard.
The Dark Forest clearly has a dog-like temper; ignoring it may not have serious consequences, but it will definitely be as troublesome as stepping on a hundred pieces of chewing gum.
Xi Miao sighed and told him, "I couldn't find it."
After putting on the speed-boosting boots, Xi Miao walked much faster and climbed down in a few steps.
She looked into the dark jungle, then followed the iron chains on his hands to look at Lai Cai Ge, who was being led around by someone who was tied up.
"Are you planning to take him away like this?"
Her words sounded somewhat familiar, and Dark Jungle, though puzzled, answered before he could think.
"Ugh, this guy's got a really foul mouth. I'm going to teach him a lesson."
He paused for a moment before remembering to ask, "By the way, who are you?"
Xi Miao chuckled, unsure whether to call him oblivious or overly familiar.
In the end, she just clicked her tongue and said, "Hehehe."
Dark Jungle's gaze instantly changed, "You're Hehehe!"
At the same time as his voice rang out, there was also a sharp, almost female-sounding exclamation.
He impatiently tugged at the chain and warned, "Shut your beak, can't you hear your father talking?"
Wang Zhenxing stared intently at Xi Miao, imprinting her face into his memory, and suddenly recalled the humiliation he had suffered at Xi Xi Xi's place.
The methods of revenge he had thought of in the past echoed in his mind, but before Wang Zhenxing could choose one, he was interrupted by Dark Jungle's words.
His face immediately darkened.
That hateful brat! He made him lose face like this in front of his enemy!
He bitterly added another note to the Dark Forest, secretly resolving to find a way to kill the two men.
Completely ignoring Lai Cai behind him, Dark Jungle excitedly followed Xi Miao, chatting away.
"So you're a woman! No wonder you didn't argue with that bastard behind you. I thought you were a coward!"
"By the way, thank you for selling me food last time. Those people are complete bloodsuckers. They only offered me a steamed bun for 35 units of resources. Screw them, only an idiot would buy that!"
"I later found out that the idiot behind me was the same kind of person who had sold me water for 25 units a bottle. I had almost forgotten about it. I only found out after checking the records after arguing with him that day."
"Did you see me cursing him in the public chat? I was unmatched in my high school when it came to cursing. I cursed everyone who tried to pick a fight with me. Later, I dropped out of school, and the older brother who was my mentor even asked me to curse people for him!"
Xi Miao glanced back, and Dark Jungle's expression conveyed the words "I'm awesome," showing that he was extremely satisfied with himself.
She couldn't help but laugh, then covered it up by saying, "Yeah, awesome."
Hearing this praise, the dark forest felt even closer to her.
"Haha, it's just average, at least that idiot behind me is no match for me. By the way, do you have any extra food to sell? I'd like to buy some more."
He rubbed his stomach. "I'm still growing, I'm really hungry!"
"I can sell you some, at market price."
Xi Miao walked in front without even turning her head, and casually agreed.
This unexpected sight broke down Lai Cai, who was walking at the back.
He was wearing heavy clothes, and even in this environment, he still struggled to walk, as if his hands and feet were about to freeze off. Xi Miao, who was at the front, was wearing light clothes, but he did not move stiffly at all.
Why should I?!
He harbored resentment, yet felt that his current predicament was entirely due to Xi Miao.
If it weren't for the initial enticement and framing, he would definitely be rich by selling water now, and he would definitely have good winter clothes like hers, instead of falling into the hands of that idiot Dark Jungle.
The more Lai Cai thought about it, the more he hated it. He slowed down and looked around.
The ice field was vast, and there was no one else in sight, as if the three of them were the only people in this world.
Brother Lai Cai couldn't help but think that if he killed these two people here, no one would find out.
He could even plunder their possessions to make up for the persecution they had caused him and to compensate for some of his emotional and financial losses.
Lai Cai stared longingly at Xi Miao's thin clothing.
Wearing such thin clothes yet still keeping warm, those clothes must be valuable. Kill her, and the clothes will be his.
His heart pounded wildly in his chest, and his hands, bound by chains, twitched as he pulled something out of his backpack.
Amidst the cacophony of chatter in the dark jungle, the iron chains melted into a pool of molten iron.
