Chapter 28
"Tch," Marissa thought, finding it uninteresting, and casually pointed in the direction behind her.
There is a small kitchen there.
This inn doesn't serve meals; even if guests pay a high price, Marissa can only serve a bowl of meat paste.
If customers want to eat in the restaurant, they have to use the kitchen to cook for themselves.
Marissa used to lend out the kitchen often, as it wasn't considered a private place.
Xi Miao walked in and immediately noticed that there was still a bowl of meat paste left in the pot.
It was made of some kind of meat, charred black, and exuded a meaty aroma from long stewing.
Xi Miao turned her head to look at another corner, where there was a complete bear skin, seemingly implying that the meat in the pot was bear meat.
The kitchen is small, only six or seven steps away. There are three stoves, but only one is used; the other two are mainly for guests.
Xi Miao gathered two pieces of firewood and heated up the empty stove. Marissa, who was peeking through the crack in the door, saw that Xi Miao didn't intend to touch her food and shrank back out of boredom.
That cautious little girl is really boring.
Xi Miao, who was tending the fire, waited a while before raising her eyes to look towards the door.
After confirming that no one was around, she pulled out some firewood and rummaged through the empty, ashes-covered stove next to her.
The ash inside was from who knows how long ago; it wasn't as fluffy as freshly burned ash, and it had formed quite a few hard lumps.
She was certain that the tip of the firewood had touched something, so she bent down to look inside.
A tiny treasure chest was hidden inside.
Xi Miao was overjoyed; they were indeed still here.
In her precognitive dream, Xi Miao was very cautious. She didn't get much from the werewolf village, but the small treasure chest in the stove was the most important one.
After putting the silver treasure chest into her backpack, Xi Miao pretended to take a potato, threw it into the pot to heat it up, and then turned off the fire.
It has to be said that hot food tastes better than cold food.
Xi Miao walked out while munching on a potato, and went upstairs to the second floor under Marissa's watchful eye.
The inn has two floors; the first floor is all single rooms, and the second floor is all double rooms.
Marissa doesn't like coming upstairs because most of the guests staying here are couples. She can't pick up men without killing these kinds of people, so she simply avoids seeing them and keeps them upstairs.
When Xi Miao arrived, the other three rooms upstairs were empty, but now two more have moved in.
Most players act alone and rarely team up with strangers. There are two more rooms upstairs, and the downstairs room is probably already full.
To verify her hypothesis, Xi Miao deliberately made some noise in the stairwell.
She held a string of gold beads in her hand, and gently broke it, causing the beads to scatter and fall to the ground with a clatter.
On this wooden floor, the sound of beads rolling when they hit the ground is very loud.
Just as she squatted down, Xi Miao heard a noise coming from behind one of the doors.
Presumably observing whether there was any danger outside, the person inside did not open the door immediately, but stood behind the door for a while before slightly opening it.
Xi Miao caught a glimpse of the sword's light out of the corner of her eye.
"My chain broke. Sorry to bother you."
Xi Miao looked up and smiled, her expression apologetic yet harmless.
The man who opened the door seemed to lower his guard and sheathed his sword.
Xi Miao only had time to glance at the sword, which seemed very familiar. Before she could finish thinking about it, the man inside had already knelt down to help her pick up the gold beads.
She noticed the wrist guards on his hands; they appeared to be made of some kind of metal and had a circular shield engraved on them.
Shield —
Xi Miao suddenly understood why the face looked familiar.
That sword was clearly the same one she had obtained before; even the auspicious cloud pattern in the middle of the sword was exactly the same.
"Are you a little warrior?"
The little warrior, holding five golden beads in his hand, paused for a moment upon hearing this, "You recognize me?"
Another man in the inner room looked over warily. "Liu An, do you know her?"
The little warrior shook his head, looked at Xi Miao carefully again, and confirmed that he really didn't recognize the girl.
Xi Miao's expression became even stranger. She hadn't expected the little warrior to appear here, and even share a room on the second floor with a man.
"It is me, the peerless sword."
She mentioned the name of the knife to the little warrior, and he immediately understood, his eyes widening as he looked at Xi Miao in disbelief.
"You are Xi—"
Before he could finish speaking, Xi Miao cut him off, saying, "Just call me Sister Xi."
She didn't want to reveal her name in such a chaotic place.
The name "Hehehe" is too famous in District 37. While it brings benefits, it also has some drawbacks. In this competitive environment where players are competing with each other, hearing her name might cause others to team up and try to squeeze her out.
The little warrior gave her a strange look, and after a long while reluctantly called out, "Sister Xi."
The other man in his room was named Hui Zi. He was from the same village as Little Warrior and they had known each other since childhood. They met on their way to the werewolf village and naturally became partners.
"Come in, it's not safe outside," Hui Zi said warily, glancing around before beckoning Xi Miao inside.
While the two were being introduced, the little warrior had already nimbly picked up the gold beads that had rolled off the ground and returned them all to Xi Miao.
"Sister Xi, when did you arrive?"
The little warrior's appearance is just like his personality; he is somewhat square and serious, and looks like a meticulous person.
In other words, they look older than their age.
His friend had exceptionally large eyes and a tall stature, resembling a monkey with long arms and legs.
Xi Miao then realized why the little warrior's expression had been so strange.
She has a baby face and looks no more than 20. These two people probably misunderstood, which is why they were calling out so reluctantly.
But now is not the time to explain these unimportant things; Xi Miao is more concerned with other things.
"I arrived earlier than you all. I was the first guest this morning. How come you two are sharing a room? Aren't there single rooms downstairs?"
"The single rooms downstairs were all booked, so the landlady gave us double rooms upstairs," Hui Zi answered, seemingly nonchalant as he casually lay on the bed. "Are you staying on the second floor too?"
"Yes, it's in the room right across from yours."
Hui Zi didn't think much when he asked the question, but the little warrior realized something was wrong.
Xi Miao was the first to arrive. At that time, the single rooms downstairs must not have been full, so how did she end up staying on the second floor?
He asked a question, and Xi Miao answered him in a low voice.
"My situation is similar to yours. When I came here, I met other people who came together. We pretended to be a couple and stayed in one room so that we would be safer when we rested."
The little warrior doesn't feel safe.
He didn't trust strangers he met in this kind of place. "Is he a man or a woman?"
If it were a woman, it would be fine, but if it were a male little warrior, he would only be more worried about her safety.
“A man,” Xi Miao could see that he was genuinely worried about her, and patted his shoulder reassuringly, “Don’t worry, you live right across from us, and this place isn’t very soundproof. If there’s a problem, I’ll yell.”
The little warrior then relaxed his brow. "I'll be careful."
Xi Miao's smile became subtle. "Compared to me, I think the two of you are more dangerous."
Xi Miao didn't explain this, and the little warrior and Hui Zi were confused. They didn't understand it even after Xi Miao left.
The sun set in the west at seven o'clock in the evening.
A creaking sound came from under the bed.
The little warrior broke out in a cold sweat, remembering Xi Miao's reminder from that afternoon.
Could there be something unclean in this hotel?
