Chapter 47 Arrested on the Spot
"The latest disappearance and the mysterious death of the laboratory zombie have been solved."
"Really? They caught someone at the lab? Who is it?"
One of the cleaning servants said mysteriously, "It's Li Nai."
"What?! That can't be right."
"It's absolutely true. The person is currently under control, awaiting the boss's decision."
"That's it, we'll definitely have to make them into test subjects."
Laboratory S04 monitoring room.
Li Nai crouched on the ground, with a gun barrel above his head.
Missy walked past, speaking a foreign language on the phone.
She squatted there obediently, without moving her head, and after making sure the person was far away, she quietly looked at her "accomplice".
On the opposite sofa, Qi Shuihan sat at one end, leaning against the backrest, her long arm supporting her head, studying a recipe. She seemed oblivious to everyone around her. Yes, including herself.
She raised her eyes again to signal Qi Shuihan, her eyes practically blazing with fire, but the other party didn't even glance at her.
Turning his head, he secretly observed Misiko, who had walked to the corner.
She didn't know what confidential matters they were discussing on the phone, but the call didn't end. She figured she still had some time, enough for her to conspire with Qi Shuihan.
He emitted short, strange breaths, which attracted Qi Shuihan.
It finally moved.
He shifted his leg and crossed it again, his eyes never leaving the recipe.
He's giving the other person a knife-like look. Was that intentional? Did you snitch on him?
A smile suddenly bloomed on the face behind the recipe, as if he had seen some joke in it. Li Nai's teeth itched with rage.
"That's outrageous!"
That's right! That's too much.
Um?
Who's shouting outside?
Li Nai looked towards the doorway.
Liang walked in, followed by a furious-faced Moke.
“Five hundred, a full five hundred.” Merck waved his hand in a five-point gesture. “You must teach Li Nai a lesson. Don’t let her give me any more experimental subjects.”
"It's covetousness."
Merck paused, his eyes darting around in thought, before shaking his head. "That's not the point. It would be better to let Missy give her a little punishment."
Liang Ge suddenly stopped, turned to the side, and glanced back at him, signaling him to be quiet.
Merck's eyes flickered, just in time to see Missy withdraw her sidelong glance at them. She quickly covered her mouth, then looked around sheepishly. When she saw Li Nai squatting on the ground, her deep-set eyes, typical of foreigners, widened even more.
A gentle breeze swept past Li Nai, and a tall figure loomed overhead. Large, somewhat nervous eyes met hers.
"It was you last time, wasn't it? No, it was you who did it. According to statistics, you killed another five hundred of my test subjects this time."
Five hundred? That's 10 points. Li Nai checked the points value, which showed 7.
7 points = 350 zombies.
Li Nai sized up Merck. This guy, would he take advantage of the chaos to smear us?
"What do you mean 'last time'? Isn't this the only time?" Li Nai casually stroked the ring.
“You’re panicking.” Merck chuckled twice. “In the base laboratory on the outskirts of the city, some test subjects keep dying inexplicably. You’re still quite clever, killing only a single-digit number each day, deliberately mixing them with newly captured test subjects.”
“Dr. Merck, I admit to shooting them this time. But the time you mentioned, I didn’t know how to use a gun, so how could I have killed them?” She looked completely innocent.
"Stop pretending, you have special abilities. Killing tens of thousands is no problem for you. Stop making excuses."
Merck stood up and deliberately gestured with his chin to draw her attention to Missyco.
“I’m going to tell Missy what you did and let her teach you a lesson.”
Panic immediately crossed her face. What to do? How to explain it? If she was locked in a dark room and not allowed to leave, when would she ever complete her mission?
He kept glancing at Qi Shuihan.
Unaware that his subtle movements had already been noticed by Brother Liang, a low chuckle escaped his throat.
"Don't look at your master, she can't even protect herself."
How did you know what we did?
Liang Ge's starry eyes, hidden beneath his bangs, were suppressing a laugh.
"Didn't your master tell you that there were surveillance cameras in the room?"
Li Nai looked around at the ceiling and was immediately indignant at his own stupidity.
Surveillance... As a dangerous experimental subject, Qi Shuihan would naturally be equipped with surveillance to observe her every move.
They plotted secretly right under people's noses and carried it out with great enthusiasm.
He slapped his forehead hard. Idiot!
He glanced sideways at Qi Shuihan, who seemed completely unconcerned. What a scoundrel!
"Since you've all discovered it, why wait until today to take action?"
Liang Ge moved closer to the sofa and lightly patted Merck on the shoulder. "That idiot didn't report it. He only panicked when his precious test subjects were dwindling in number." He then sat down at the other end of the sofa.
Li Nai glanced at the furious but speechless Merck, feeling much better. Heh heh, it's good to have someone with you.
“I remember you were an orphan.” Liang Ge lit a cigarette.
On the other side, Qi Shuihan glanced at the cigarette butt, a hint of displeasure flashing in his eyes.
"Yes." Li Nai's gaze fell to the ground.
"I feel intense hatred because my friends and family died at the hands of zombies, and I must kill them to quell my hatred?"
The view from the ground was vacant.
Brother Liang has a great imagination.
On second thought, this is practically giving her an explanation for free.
Just as I was about to nod, Brother Liang immediately rejected the idea.
"Impossible. You have no family, no relatives, and no long-term friends. I'm curious about your motive for killing zombies."
Li Nai looked up at him, her face showing a heartbroken expression. It wasn't an act; she was genuinely sad.
Liang Ge remained unmoved. He tapped her with the cigarette between his fingers, his starry eyes moving meaningfully towards a certain corner.
"Time is running out, hurry up and think of an excuse." He grinned, biting a cigarette between his teeth, his smile wicked.
Li Nai felt dizzy. How could she explain it? She couldn't very well say that she was killing zombies everywhere to exchange for Qi Shuihan's freedom.
Sigh! It would be better to just wait for the punishment to pass. This whole charade, if it shakes any goodwill Missy might have towards her—it's really not worth it.
Foreign languages drifted intermittently into my ears, neither too close nor too far.
Suddenly, he remembered hearing this language when he was in a vegetative state. He nodded confidently; Ji Fenglan was on the other end of the phone.
When the two of them get together, it's definitely to discuss revenge plans.
As a crucial element of the plan, no matter how big a mistake she makes, Missy will forgive her, and she should be able to tolerate any further requests.
In my mind, a self-consistent lie quickly takes shape.
Just then, the call ended.
Misi walked over in low heels, passed Li Nai, and sat between Qi Shuihan and Liang Ge.
The three of them squeezed the sofa so much that there wasn't room for a fourth person. Merck silently moved a chair and sat to Li Nai's right.
The other men gradually left the room. What was to come wasn't something they should be listening to.
The room's four walls exuded a pervasive pressure, pushing and squeezing Li Nai alone beyond the surrounding objects and people.
Instead of waiting to be questioned, it's better to turn yourself in.
Merck stood up, and Li Nai exclaimed in horror: You want to sue me? No way!
He deliberately swung his long arm and struck Merck's calf hard. Merck sat down heavily, wincing and crying out in pain.
She yelled, drowning out Merck's voice: "Let me explain!"
Unexpectedly, he fell to his knees in front of Missyko.
Everyone looked at her.
Even Qi Shuihan, who never wavered, put down the recipe and glanced at her. But his gaze was that of someone watching a show.
"I did this for you."
Various gazes turned to Misike. They glanced at him briefly, then looked away. Only Qi Shuihan remained unrestrained.
Missy just watched her quietly, as if wanting to see what kind of flowery words she could utter.
"The backstory is a bit long—I'll keep it short. In order to escape the animal base, I used my ability for too long and was punished by being banned from using it. To put it bluntly, I'm just an ordinary person now."
She glanced at Missyco's expression.
Missy's brow twitched.
"For now, he's just an ordinary person. Don't worry, it won't affect your plans. It's just..."
Liang glanced at Misi Ke. Like the other person, he looked at Li Nai with suspicion.
Li Nai, oblivious to the oddity, continued to reveal her ulterior motives.
"I need to kill 500,000 zombies to get rid of the one-month penalty period."
“It’s been too long,” Missy blurted out.
Li Nai looked up, mouth agape, staring blankly at the other person.
She blinked. "Me too. It's been too long. There aren't enough zombies in the lab, so, um, I need to go to a big city and kill enough."
After saying that, he slowly revealed what he thought was a friendly Mickey Mouse smile.
Misik: "I'll solve your problem in three days."
Liang glared at Merck, stopping him from saying anything. Merck sullenly sat back down.
He grinned and continued, "Don't interfere with Missy's plans." A wicked glint appeared in his starry eyes.
He leaned back on the sofa, removed his cigarette, and exhaled a puff of smoke at her, seemingly asking casually.
What do you think of our plan?
ah?
The smile froze. A test, definitely a test.
After I didn't come out for a while, she simply said, "A few days ago, when I was still in a vegetative state and lying in bed, I heard you talking about this. I don't know the specifics."
Liang Ge's expression remained unchanged. He leaned back on the sofa and exchanged glances with Mi Xi Ke.
"Tonight, we'll plan the situation in major cities and the amount of weaponry we need to carry, and then arrange for a team of Riches to accompany her."
Liang Ge's calm expression changed slightly when he heard that two teams would be assigned to the task, but he quickly returned to normal.
"There's no need to arrange for them," Merck muttered.
The pair of fox-like eyes, unnoticed by anyone, paused briefly before turning back to the recipe, continuing to pretend to study it.
Missy set off.
Liang Ge and Mo Ke stood up before her. Qi Shuihan remained unfazed, stretching out her limbs to celebrate having the sofa all to herself.
The group bypassed Li Nai.
Merck could no longer tolerate it and protested.
"What about my 500 test subjects! And what about the previous test subjects? You can't just let her go like this!"
Missy, who was leading the way, glanced back at the people behind him.
Liang understood what Misiko meant, and the two brothers put their arms around Merck: "Tell her to leave you a few thousand survivors tomorrow."
The protests subsided.
Seeing the three of them leave, Li Nai, who had been left unattended, quickly followed.
My foot was just about to step out the door.
Liang suddenly reached out to stop her from moving forward. With his other hand, he gently pushed Merck away first.
"You stay here."
"Why?"
Liang glanced behind her and said, "Seize the opportunity to learn. A world-class master like her wouldn't budge even if you offered millions of dollars."
After saying that, he led some of his men who were guarding the corridor away.
Li Nai turned around and immediately saw Qi Shuihan lying on the sofa, pretending to be asleep with his eyes half-closed. He was all clenched up and flailing his arms in anger.
She strode over, pounced on the sofa, and rolled around, pushing and shoving against Qi Shuihan's long legs.
"All you do is take your anger out on me. This is the first time I've seen a system that's tough on its own." Qi Shuihan gave up his seat.
"I'm only tough at home! Who told you to treat me like a fool?"
Qi Shuihan picked up the menu. "You ungrateful wretch. I'm saving you some brain cells to get out of here, and you don't even thank me? Tomato and beef brisket stew, want some?"
I got up and went to the kitchen.
"Add some chili and stir-fried pork."
A muffled sound came from behind the sofa.
The refrigerator door opened, and the refrigerator light illuminated Qi Shuihan's relaxed, faint smile.
