Chapter 57 After Qi Shuihan Gains His Freedom (Part 2)
Latest news from the Survivors Organization: The schoolgirl has won the boss's favor again! Yesterday's new favorite turned out to be a member of the enemy family who mysteriously disappeared late at night. The boss has ordered a headcount of the organization's members.
Qi Shuihan sat with her knees bent and head bowed, while the girl behind her braided her hair in a Xinjiang style, chattering away as she reported big news.
"Sister Canary, stay hidden these next few days and don't go out. Whatever you do, don't let the female pervert find out about your existence."
A strand of hair slipped from her palm. The canary lowered its head and remained silent.
The girl misunderstood that the other person was worried. "Don't be afraid, my uncle has already taken care of everything. He registered you under a fake name. In a moment, I'll disguise your face."
Crackling sounds.
A sound like a rat gnawing could be heard.
The girl looked around and finally noticed the pretty older sister.
Peek out.
The canary is eating a cookie.
Rich in color, with a satisfying crunch when you bite into them, and a delightful milky aroma. My mind immediately conjures up the loudspeaker: Freshly baked cookies, come buy some!
"Sister, where did you get those cookies?"
Qi Shuihan remained silent, simply stuffing the biscuit into the other person's mouth, and then putting the remaining biscuits into his pocket.
The girl pushed her tongue back, and a crisp sound rang out in her mouth.
After finishing her meal, the girl smacked her lips reluctantly. Before she could ask any more questions, a commotion erupted outside, as if someone was coming to inspect.
The girl grabbed handfuls of dust and smeared it on Qi Shuihan's face, then grabbed a large, smelly rag and covered her head and face with it. This also concealed Qi Shuihan's gleaming silver fingertips, which were scratching her beautiful face.
The next moment, two people came in.
"The names have been taken."
They were separated and questioned in different rooms.
"Are you new here?"
The inspector bent down to look at Qi Shuihan's lowered head.
"Lift your face up!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Qi Shuihan calmly raised his face.
The inspector in front of him gasped.
The face before me was bisected by a long, deep scar, the centipede-like lines distorting the features and giving it a distinctly inhuman appearance.
The inspector averted his gaze, looking at a name on the roster. "It's called Canary. Change it to Golden Monster."
Throughout the entire interrogation, the other party didn't even glance at Qi Shuihan. After the hasty conclusion, she was chased out of the room as if by ghosts.
The girl ran into the house.
"Sister, is everything alright?"
Qi Shuihan looked at her strangely. Aside from being a little dirty, her face was still incredibly attractive when she looked closely.
"Oh! The inspector looks quite frightened."
"I don't know." Qi Shuihan looked completely clueless.
The girl shrugged. She reminded Qi Shuihan again that she hadn't gone out and that she could contact her if she needed anything.
For the first three days, the person behaved themselves and didn't go out. However, on the night of the fourth day, the person disappeared!
She was too anxious to say anything, but told her uncle to help her look for the person.
The search yielded no results, so the girl returned to the cement room. As soon as she entered, she smelled the odor of alcohol on the wind.
An empty-framed window without glass; a woman sits on one knee against the windowsill; several empty wine bottles are scattered at the base of the wall.
"Sister!" the girl rushed forward. "Where did you get this wine from?!"
Qi Shuihan ignored him and gazed at the night sky, counting the stars.
The girl crouched down to examine the bottles; they were all foreign liquors, and the only English letters she could recognize were for "whiskey."
A bolt of lightning struck my mind. Recent reports indicated that supplies had been compromised, in addition to the mysterious disappearance of that enemy unit not long ago.
The girl's face was pale. "Sister, you, you..."
"Want some?"
With his fox-like eyes glazed over, he wouldn't let the girl refuse, pulling her close and pouring her drinks.
"Drink up, drink up. You couldn't drink before, and you still can't drink now. But I'm giving you a chance to try."
The girl struggled at first, but then she just drank the wine herself. And you know what? She has a real talent for drinking.
Unfortunately, the wine only reached the bottom of the bottle. Although it wasn't enough to get her drunk, her cheeks slowly turned rosy, and her eyes became even brighter.
The girl wanted more wine, but Qi Shuihan stopped her. Most of it had already been drunk; the wine they had just drunk was the last bit left.
The girl leaned on the windowsill, watching Qi Shuihan's long legs, and they counted stars together in the night sky.
I don't know how much time passed.
"Sister, are you heartbroken? Is that why you're drowning your sorrows in alcohol?" the girl asked innocently.
Qi Shuihan glanced at her, but couldn't tell if she was drunk.
"Read less romance novels and more survival skills books."
"Hmph!" the girl retorted angrily. "Don't try to change the subject. I know."
"Know what?"
"You saw your older sister and her girlfriend being all lovey-dovey, and it made you feel sad. Don't think I'm a naive person; I've been observing them very closely these past few days."
"Oh~ Are you observing me? Little girl, you don't happen to have a crush on me, do you?"
The girl was speechless, her face burning even hotter. She muttered, "I knew it. Don't think you can fool me." Then she let out a wheezing sound.
Fox-eyed noticed that the girl had fallen asleep from drunkenness.
"Your eyes are not deceiving you."
He turned his gaze to the members of the various organizations on night watch under the night sky.
"Why should she be the only one enjoying all the treasures? It's time to open up the granaries."
He pulled a jar of liquor from his pocket, drank it down in the starry night, and a cold smile curled his lips, moistened by the liquor.
...
"Little Chili! Little Chili! Wake up!"
Someone was afraid of being slapped in the face, so her arm was grabbed and she was pulled to her feet. Seeing that she couldn't be woken up, the person decided to use force.
His head was throbbing from being drunk, which made the girl jump up and down, yelling, "What are you doing?!"
The hand on his arm loosened, and he fell to the side, the bottle clattering.
"You don't want to live anymore! Get up! Zombies have broken in!"
The man shouted urgently.
The girl, nicknamed "Little Chili," moved stiffly and suddenly opened her eyes. Turning her head to look at the window without glass, she bumped into a fallen wine bottle and stumbled to the windowsill to look down.
The area below was a complete mess, filled with the sounds of wailing and howling.
"Come with me!"
Her uncle grabbed her collar and backed away. When she turned around in a daze, he grabbed her sleeve to protect her as he walked away.
The unfinished cement houses were empty; the people inside had long since fled.
Chili's wrist kept bumping against the cold metal, and she saw the long spear her uncle was carrying on his back swaying.
"Uncle. Where's my sister?" Her blurry eyes gradually cleared.
Her uncle ignored her.
"Uncle! Let's go find my sister." Realizing her sister might be in danger, she grabbed the man's arm tightly and pulled him in the opposite direction, trying to stop him.
"We cannot abandon our sister!"
"Stop fooling around!" the man snapped, turning his head away.
The girl trembled at his ferocious appearance.
"We need to protect ourselves first." He clenched her small hand. He turned around, his arm muscles bulging, and dragged the girl away without giving her a chance to resist.
The uncle and nephew had just run down one floor when several people rushed up in a panic. The man quickly pulled the girl to the wall to avoid them. The stench of people emanating from them wafted by. Downstairs, a cacophony of footsteps and shouts filled the air.
"Go up."
The middle-aged man pushed the girl up the stairs first, and he followed closely behind, blocking the way.
Panting, I climbed up three floors.
The footsteps behind me were very fast.
The girl glanced at it quickly. She was surprised.
Their speed actually increased slightly.
"Don't slow down!" her uncle gently pushed her back, urging her on.
I climbed two more floors.
The girl with the hot chili pepper-like legs felt much heavier.
"Hurry, hurry, hurry!" Her uncle pushed her from behind, using her strength to climb the stairs.
A considerable number of zombies roared and chased after them.
She gritted her teeth and ran.
Bang! Bang!
Gunshots rang out from upstairs.
"ah--"
A dark figure fell from the building.
The uncle and nephew looked up, their faces filled with surprise and doubt. They dared not slow down and gritted their teeth to continue climbing. The only way out they knew was upstairs.
The gunfire overhead grew increasingly intense, and one could even discern the sounds of fully automatic machine guns.
After a while, the gunfire stopped. It seems everyone who ran up there was dead.
The uncle and niece stopped on the floor below where the gunfire had started. The middle-aged man held the girl down while he led the charge. He used his years of military experience and frontline duty to spy on the situation upstairs.
Fresh blood dripped from the edge of the steps.
A dozen or so corpses were piled up like a mountain of flesh. They refused to come downstairs, even in death, or perhaps it was too late to run away.
After climbing a few more steps, he spotted the iron railings—closing off the floors and connecting passageways—and several men with guns pointing outwards. They were all the boss's trusted confidants.
The building has 18 floors. Floors 16-18 are where the boss lives. Her subordinates are stationed on the 13th floor.
We cannot force our way in.
"Uncle, they're here!" The girl tugged at the back of his shirt.
The middle-aged man hesitated for a second, then pulled the girl and ran towards the twelfth floor.
After searching around, not a single room had a door that could keep out the zombies. Except for one window with a wooden plank hanging outside.
Roar! Roar! —
Somehow, a few zombies noticed them and led the others over.
The middle-aged man calmly raised his gun and fired.
The heads of the two zombies leading the charge were splattered with brain matter.
"Little Chili, go to that room, the one with the wooden planks outside the window."
His back pushed the girl backward.
The girl obediently ran away first.
Upon entering the room, she leaned against the window, staring anxiously at the door, waiting for her uncle to come in.
Gunshots rang out one after another, faster and faster, but no one came.
In the heat of the moment, the gunfire ceased.
She thought of something and immediately ran towards the door.
Suddenly, her uncle appeared outside the door and shoved her inside.
“Climb out and squat on the plank.”
The girl obediently ran back to the window, stuck one leg out, and straddled the windowsill. She looked back at her uncle, who remained motionless.
"Uncle, come quick!"
The man remained silent, bracing himself against the doorway with his arms.
Little Chili noticed that her uncle's gun wasn't on him.
We've run out of bullets.
The man was blocking the doorway.
"Don't go down!"
The man anticipated the girl's movements.
The girl looked at him in terror, tears streaming down her face. Several zombies clung to the man's back, gnawing at his shoulders, blood spurting out.
"Uncle! Uncle!"
The man's jaw was clenched, and his face was grim. He glared at her with piercing eyes and roared.
"Did you hear me! Get on the plank! Go now!"
The girl was at a loss, her mind went blank, and she could only cry and call for her uncle.
Do you want me to die with my eyes wide open in disbelief?
Do you want your parents to hate me in the underworld?!
The man suddenly burst into tears.
The girl froze, then clung to the windowsill and stood on the wooden planks attached to the exterior wall.
The plank was too narrow and thin to support two people.
She glanced at the ground dozens of meters below, then slowly shrank into a ball. In the wind, the zombies were slowly devouring her uncle.
The sun had risen to its highest point, and the intense sunlight made her feel dizzy.
There was no sound inside.
After waiting a few seconds, Little Chili peeked through the window, only to find a large pool of blood at the doorway. Where were her uncle and the zombies?
There was a trail of blood on the concrete floor pointing towards her. She slowly straightened up, her gaze following the path to the window.
Roar! —
Suddenly, a person darted out.
The girl cried out and leaned back, but luckily she held on tightly to the window sill and didn't fall.
Before her, a zombie was stuck on the windowsill, one hand gripping her wrist tightly. Its head jerked back and forth, trying to bite her.
"uncle."
The zombie's mutilated, grotesque, bloodied face was exactly like his uncle's.
Another bloody hand appeared at her wrist, and both hands strained together, just like when her uncle had pulled her along. The zombie dragged her closer to the bloody mouth.
Unable to break free after several attempts, she cried out, "No! Uncle! No! I'm Little Chili Pepper!"
His bloodshot eyes were not clear; he was only excited to see food and immediately put it in his mouth.
The girl screamed, "Let me go!!"
hiss!
A whistling sound, like fabric being torn apart, rose from the air.
Uncle's head suddenly fell off, rolled down the wooden plank, and gradually shrank into a black dot as it approached the ground.
The girl withdrew her gaze from below and followed the woman's retreating figure as if in a daze.
—Sister Canary.
"elder sister!"
The moment the woman turned the corner, he glanced at her with his fox-like eyes.
The girl climbed through the window and, before she could even stand properly, stumbled after him.
They chased the zombies all the way to the stairwell, where the ground was littered with them.
The woman went upstairs.
Remembering the powerful guns, the girl shouted, "Sister, don't go up there!"
The woman ignored her and continued climbing the steps.
Helpless, the girl gritted her teeth and followed. But the woman walked quickly and soon disappeared from sight.
There are still half a staircase to go before reaching the 13th floor.
The girl stopped and closed her eyes reluctantly.
Strangely, no gunshots were heard.
She used both her hands and feet to quickly climb the stairs.
My gaze passed over the small hill piled high with zombies and human corpses.
The woman paused beside the open iron bars, her hand withdrawing from one of the railings, her fingertips gleaming with a dazzling silver light. Then she went up the stairs.
"Sister! Wait for me!"
The girl quickly followed.
Passing through the iron fence with its arched gap cut in the middle, a strange look flashed in his eyes, and then he glanced at the dead henchmen of the boss on the ground.
His gaze fell in the direction his sister had left.
Did she do it?
The girl climbed to the rooftop, panting. Because the woman had led the way, she encountered no obstacles.
At the entrance to the rooftop on the 18th floor lay the bodies of the gang leader and her girlfriend. Their grotesque, bluish-gray appearance indicated that they had become zombies long before their deaths.
Exit through the safety door.
"You have good stamina."
The woman stood with her back to him in front of a vault that was as big as a small house.
Hearing the praise, the girl only murmured "sister." She didn't approach any further; the woman in front of her had become a stranger, radiating danger.
The woman didn't pay attention to the girl's reaction.
His tone was very cheerful: "Anyone who perseveres to the finish line is a champion. I want to give you a reward."
Qi Shuihan turned around, her smooth, long black hair swaying in the sunlight, shimmering like satin.
Pointing to the small house.
"All the supplies here are yours."
The girl turned her eyes away and examined the small house closely. Wasn't this the boss's treasure trove?
She caught a glimpse of Qi Shuihan walking towards her out of the corner of her eye, and her body immediately tensed up.
However, the other person passed her by.
"Sister! Where are you going?"
The girl followed.
"Don't follow me," Qi Shuihan glanced at the small house. "I went through all the trouble of messing things up here to get these supplies, are you going to just dump them on someone else to pick up the scraps?"
The girl's back hair stood on end.
"Why? Why did you do this?"
Qi Shuihan seemed to notice the tears welling up in her eyes, but instead of feeling any remorse for her actions, she said lightly, "Enjoy it."
This time the girl didn't keep up.
Qi Shuihan didn't care.
On the way downstairs, I went into the eldest sister's room and found a speaker, which I carried downstairs.
Outside the building, a car was found, just starting to move. The girl's shouts carried on the wind to her ears.
"I'll wait for you to come back!"
Qi Shuihan seemed not to hear, turned the speaker volume up to the maximum, stepped on the gas and rocked the car all the way.
