Chapter 6 Who Carried Me Away?

Chapter 6 Who Carried Me Away?

From the emergency tent they escaped from came a series of eerie howls. Everyone who was fast asleep was awakened, and the noise even spread to the tents next door.

A high-pitched scream came from the tent she was assigned to.

"Host?!"

Li Nai stood up, but was grabbed by the wrist by the hooded woman next to her.

Don't go.

Li Nai forcefully pulled her hand away.

"I have to go save people."

"You can't save them."

Beneath the wide, deep hood, a high nose, as slender and straight as a hanging sword, slowly emerged, followed by a pair of cold and ruthless dark phoenix eyes.

Li Nai was stunned. What an ice beauty who never got her hands dirty but could freeze people to death.

"Whether you can survive tonight is a question."

Beautiful lips uttered unpleasant words.

The next second, the hand gripping her wrist loosened.

Li Nai glanced at the girl, who was clearly still a college student, and ran away without looking back.

The tents were only twenty-odd steps apart when a terrified survivor rushed towards them.

Li Nai was knocked forward one step, then back three steps, before crashing to the ground with a violent thud.

He stepped over seven or eight people, crying and disappearing into the darkness.

Li Nai shook his bleeding hand and walked towards the tent. The two plastic sheet doors were torn and deformed, their hems swaying in the wind.

A bloody smell wafted out.

He probed his finger into the dark crevice, feeling the edge and gently lifting it at an angle.

Inside the dimly lit tent, some people lay on the bed twitching and convulsing, while others became food for zombies.

Li Nai opened her eyes wide and scanned the beds on the edge of the room; they were empty.

My eyes swept to the side and suddenly a pale face appeared, its cheek flesh gnawed off.

His terrified eyes stared at her, and his withered lips trembled as he repeated two words.

"Minmin, Minmin."

Li Nai spread out the plastic sheet with both hands and hugged the other person's shoulders.

Grandma Minmin seemed to be burned and pushed her away from the tent door.

"Minmin and the others are going to the restroom."

In that instant, Li Nai saw the newly mutated zombie swaying behind Grandma Minmin.

Grandma Minmin seemed to sense something, and she gripped the plastic sheeting tightly on both sides, shouting at the top of her lungs, "Go save them quickly!"

Several pairs of bluish-gray arms tugged at her clothes, dragging her little by little into the depths of the tent.

Li Nai looked surprised and suspicious, then turned and ran back the way she came.

Passing behind the truck where the hooded girl was hiding, there was a pool of black liquid on the ground that looked like blood, but the girl was nowhere to be seen.

Li Nai's eyelid twitched.

I sped up and ran towards the toilet.

It was quieter than anywhere else. Three makeshift toilets stood silently in a row, their doors closed.

"Mao Xiaomin." She cupped her hands into a megaphone and shouted in a low voice towards a row of toilet doors.

No one answered.

They called out twice more, but still no one answered.

A ray of moonlight shifted and shone precisely on a bloody handprint on the blue toilet door.

Li Nai was extremely anxious.

Where did those two kids go?!

The nearby piles of supplies emitted low, inhuman, ghostly moans.

Li Nai took a few steps back, then turned and ran away, his eyes darting around searching.

On the shadowy road, an overturned plastic box slowly moves.

He kicked over the plastic box.

Li Nai tripped and fell to the ground, further injuring her injured hands. Ignoring the pain, she turned around and saw the two children huddled together.

Host: Mao Xiaomin.

"Auntie, I protected the little girl well!"

Mao Xiaomin's feigned composure crumbled instantly, and she scooped up the little girl and staggered over.

"Why are you outside? It's so dangerous."

Li Nai took over the host.

Mao Xiaomin felt a great weight lifted off her shoulders.

"I'm sorry, Auntie. Mimi needed to pee, but you weren't here, so I brought her out. Auntie, I'm giving Mimi back to you. I need to go find my grandpa and grandma."

The little girl was about to run away after she finished speaking, but Li Nai quickly grabbed her.

"Don't go!"

Mao Xiaomin's eyes filled with fear and glistened with tears. She had already sensed something.

"I'm going to find my grandma."

He swung his arm and turned to run.

The small figure disappeared into the darkness.

"Mao Xiaomin!"

Li Nai shouted, causing a rustling sound around him. The low growls of the zombies gradually approached.

There was a thud as something was pushed to the ground; it sounded like a portable toilet.

Li Nai hugged the child tightly and left, facing a certain direction.

"Sister, I want my sister."

Mimi suddenly stretched out her hand and cried out, her little hand pointing in the direction Mao Xiaomin had left.

"Shh, shh, host, don't cry. Let's find a place to hide first."

She looked around nervously, afraid that a zombie might jump out from any corner.

"Mimi must protect her sister!"

Her two little feet kicked wildly, making her stomach hurt.

Li Nai glanced to the side and could no longer see Mao Xiaomin's direction.

The zombies around her slowly revealed their true forms, roaring at her, their sluggish steps becoming much lighter.

What a disobedient little brat!

She stomped her feet in frustration.

A suction force appeared above my head, and my consciousness entered the small body.

Two fluttering little feet rested peacefully against her belly.

"Go save Mao Xiaomin," she commanded in her childish voice.

Li Nai straightened her back, carried the baby in one arm, and ran steadily over the fallen folding table. As soon as her feet touched the ground, she raised her arm and crushed the zombie that crashed into her.

In the blink of an eye, they arrived at a cluster of emergency tents.

As she expected, they were all wandering zombies.

"Put me on the roof of the car."

Li Nai swept her long legs at the approaching zombies, found a military green troop transport truck, and in a few steps, jumped up, grabbed the steel bars, and lifted her onto the roof of the truck.

"Go find Mao Xiaomin. Wait, if there are any survivors, try to save them. Don't waste your abilities."

Li Nai stared at her with his dark eyes, sending an invisible signal, before lowering his head and jumping out of the car.

Holding a broken steel bar in his hand, he ran and swung it around, and wherever it swept, zombie heads burst into blood splattering like popped bubbles. Sometimes, the angle was just right, and one iron bar could pierce four heads.

Having become the host, Li Nai stood up with her little bottom sticking out, tiptoeing, searching for Mao Xiaomin's figure.

She observed carefully, and the faint light from a few spots roughly illuminated Li Nai's movements.

Looking into the distance, I focused on the tall lamppost, a rectangular combination light fixture; six of the eight main lights were broken. The two remaining lights flickered.

People in the military camp mentioned that this large light was specifically for illuminating the night for guarding the camp, and it was never turned off.

Was someone deliberately sabotaging it?

As she was thinking this, the lights in front of her suddenly went out.

Hey? The light's broken!

No, someone covered her head.

The person behind her covered her head with a piece of clothing and held her body tightly with both arms.

Two soft pads were placed on her back as the man slid down the windshield of the car while holding her.

Li Nai struggled.

The man gave a cold warning after getting off the ground.

"Do not move."

Is it her?

Li Nai stopped moving.

She's not dead. She must have seen me, a little kid all alone, and specially helped me get off the bus.

The hooded girl carried her as they ran, dodging and weaving through oncoming zombies with agility and skill. She was nothing like a typical fragile college student.

Li Nai felt suffocated and tugged at her clothes with her little hands.

The hooded girl seemed to notice something, so she lifted her clothes, letting in the slightly chilly night air, which made her feel refreshed.

She leaned in and took a deep breath; she saw a car ahead. The two of them were approaching the front of the car.

A few meters away from the car, the person in the driver's seat opened the door and got out. The person, whose clothes almost blended into the darkness, took a short drag of a cigarette before approaching them.

She had just realized it was a man when the clothes were pulled down again.

"Hey, what are you holding?" the man asked, his slightly hoarse voice carrying a lazy indifference.

The hooded girl didn't say anything, probably because she didn't want to talk to this smelly man who was smoking.

She swayed her body and walked around the man.

"Huh? The child?"

The man's rough hands scooped up her small feet.

He seemed unsure, and his hand reached out again. Li Nai became unhappy and kicked and thrashed about with her little feet.

"Don't touch me!"

The muffled, childlike voice under the clothes suddenly became shrill.

The man held her feet in his hands, tossing them around like stones. Someone leaned closer to her through her clothes.

A strong smell of smoke permeated through my clothes.

"Little brat."

You're brain-dead!

Li Nai coughed and kicked the man again.

The man let go of her hand before she did.

The hooded girl carried her into the car.

The car starts moving.

Li Nai looked like a puppy, his eyes covered by clothes, his mouth and nose peeking out from a small gap that the girl had deliberately made.

Where are they going?

She wasn't worried about her physical body not being able to find her. The system and the host could locate each other, and with the invincible body given by the system, she didn't need to eat, drink, relieve herself, or sleep; she could catch up to her no matter where she was.

However, this invincible body has an expiration date.

One hundred minutes later, her identity returned. She and her host were both human, so they needed some kind of self-defense buff.

A panel that only the host can see appears out of thin air; click to open the points redemption shop.

Unlimited food: water, bread. 15 points required to purchase.

Kasaya: Immune to all damage. Minor injuries result in 10% damage loss, major injuries result in 30% damage loss. Each piece costs 18 points.

Antidote: Effective against any poison. One bottle costs 18 points.

Hmm? What a coincidence. She only has 18 points in total.

Li Nai hesitated between the cassock and the antidote.

A casual glance at the experience points at the bottom.

4850.

It's a little short of level 3.

They killed quite a lot.

Thinking of myself, I send myself a message.

[—Mao Xiaomin has been found. Physical condition: 70% spread of zombie virus.]

A small box popped up in the store.

"Would you like to redeem a robe with 18 points?"

—I have taken good care of my little sister.

—I'm going to find Grandma!

Go quickly and save them.

—Minmin, Minmin.

Another small box pops out, covering the small box in front.

"Would you like to redeem the antidote with 18 points?"

"Redeem successful, added to inventory."

[The antidote has been received—Mao Xiaomin drinks the medicine—Detoxification in progress—30% purification—50% purification—70% purification—Toxins have been completely purified.]

[New orders received: Hand Mao Xiaomin over to the army.]

The virtual panel disappeared.

Li Nai leaned back and let out a long, mature sigh.

"Oh, I was wondering why there was an old man in the back seat. Turns out it was just a little kid sighing."

The man driving spoke in a sarcastic tone.

Li Nai rolled her eyes and ignored her.

The man, realizing he was being disrespectful, fell silent.

"Is everything alright with your sister?" the hooded girl asked abruptly.

"Don't worry. Big sister isn't some delicate queen; she's got plenty of strength and methods."

An old man with an old joke—it's both tacky and forced.

Li Nai was so embarrassed that she was trembling.

The hooded girl seemed unmoved and silent, assuming she was cold, and resealed the vents.

No, I... Waaah!

"I'm curious, why did you save this child?" the man asked.

"Waiting for someone to come."

—At this moment.

[New situation discovered: Su Momo has taken Dr. Ji hostage and is under attack by the army. Should they rescue her?]

Huh? Who? Su Momo?

Which one should we save?
