Chapter 4 The beautiful female doctor is really ruthless when giving injections.
Saturday afternoon at four o'clock in the city should be bustling with people. But the streets in all directions were silent. The wrecked cars were parked crookedly on both sides of the street, no one was going in or out of the shops, garbage and debris were overturned everywhere, and dried blood was spit out everywhere. The zombie that caused all this was nowhere to be seen.
"That's strange."
The scout looked down and carefully examined the image information transmitted by the drone.
"how?"
The officer next to him asked him.
"Reporting to Lieutenant Li, there are no signs of life in the surrounding three or four streets. However, I just checked recently and there were at least ten patients wandering around."
The man in his thirties had a dark, rugged face, with two thick, dark eyebrows and a pair of small, bright eyes like those of an eagle.
"Let me see." Lieutenant Li took the drone screen.
The finger directs the drone to fly further away and stop—at an intersection, several "patients" stretch out their hands and eagerly gather in a certain place.
The drones followed them.
On the chaotic street, a flashy red convertible drove recklessly, tearing a "patient" to pieces before he could get out of the way, and the stopped car swerved and overturned.
After driving for several hundred meters, the red convertible suddenly slowed down, and smoke came out of the front of the car, indicating that the car had been damaged in a crash.
The car weaved through an overpass, and a "patient" fell from it, landing right on the seat. A panic erupted, and the car swayed wildly from side to side as if out of control, finally coming to a loud bang in front of a thick lamppost.
As more and more "patients" gathered, the two young women and a little girl trapped in the white airbags in the driver's seat and passenger seat were in a very dangerous situation.
"Xiao He, take two soldiers and come with me in the car for a rapid rescue."
Lieutenant Li returned the drone screen to the view, cocked his pistol, and then instructed another junior sergeant: "You take them first and rejoin the main force."
A military pickup truck pulled up beside him. The driver got out and saluted, and Lieutenant Li got into the driver's seat, started the engine, and disappeared around the corner with three soldiers.
White smoke billowed from the scene of the car accident.
Mimi was unharmed, nestled in his arms. The familiar growl from outside the car was close at hand, and the screeching sound of fingernails scratching the car's surface woke Li Nai.
Li Nai opened her eyes, her face tilted towards the driver's seat, where there was no one.
Su Momo?!
Looking up, the little hands haphazardly pushed open the airbag, and the small body squeezed out of the embrace of its own flesh.
She climbed into the driver's seat, tilted her head up, and saw Su Momo holding a sanitation worker's bamboo broom to drive away the approaching zombies. She didn't forget to turn back and call out to them.
"Li Nai, Li Nai, wake up quickly."
Li Nai turned around and saw that her face was sunk into the airbag and she was unconscious.
Huh? Isn't he the Terminator? Why is he still asleep?
In her haste, she turned around and lunged forward, grabbing her clothes with her little hands and shaking herself vigorously.
"Wake up, wake up! Stop slacking off!"
She called out several times but didn't wake up, so she raised her little fists and pounded her shoulders and back.
"I command you to wake up and protect me."
As soon as he finished speaking, "Li Nai" stood up straight.
After a few seconds of silence, expressionless, he suddenly punched upwards, knocking the head of a zombie that had come close to him backwards.
Li Nai grabbed the car door frame with one hand, shook it twice, easily pried off the car door, lifted it up and threw it diagonally, skipping a stone across the water. Seven or eight zombies around him all fell to the ground.
After eliminating the nearby threats, "Li Nai" turned around and carried the little girl out of the car.
"Go and support Su Momo."
Li Nai drew a short, chubby finger.
Li Nai switched to holding her with one hand, walked around the front of the car towards Su Momo, and the zombies, craving flesh and blood, rushed forward one after another, only to have their heads crushed by his bare hands.
Along the short distance, a field of zombies lay behind them.
Su Momo playfully waved the broom, and the zombies around her, who couldn't get close, enjoyed the free breeze.
His peach blossom eyes shifted from "Li Nai" to secretly observe the drone in the sky.
"Sister, we've come to save you."
Li Nai cheered.
The three of them reunited.
Li Nai and Su Momo stood back to back, looking around at the zombies that had surrounded them.
They discovered that the number of zombies was increasing, and they were all zombies that had been wandering around from other street corners.
They gathered together in a dark mass, creating a rather oppressive atmosphere.
Su Momo's gaze was fixed on the second intersection of West Street.
A car came speeding towards them with its horn blaring.
A short while later, a military green pickup truck appeared.
Before the car even arrived, several bullets flew in, accurately blowing the zombies' heads off.
"Someone's come to rescue us! It's the rescue team!" Li Nai looked in the direction of the voice, his eyes filled with surprise.
With outside help, the three of them easily broke through the zombie encirclement and ran towards the military vehicle.
A dozen meters away, the military vehicle came to a stop, and two young soldiers got out, firing their guns at the zombies from either side while helping them get into the vehicle.
The person in the passenger seat of the military vehicle waved to them.
"Get in the car quickly!"
The three of them quickly jumped into the car.
The person in the passenger seat then called out to the two soldiers outside.
Li Nai felt the car swaying behind him and turned around to see two young soldiers crouching on the open, roofless carriage.
"Hold on tight."
Li Nai tossed her pigtails back to straighten her head, her big eyes curiously watching the experienced man in the driver's seat.
Whether it was because she had been staring at the ground for too long, or because the other person's military-like sensitivity was too acute, the other person glanced sideways at the rearview mirror.
He was looking at her.
Li Nai immediately looked away, lowered his head, and remained motionless.
She had never been so close to soldiers in her twenty-odd years, and a sense of awe arose spontaneously within her.
The car was silent; no one spoke during the journey.
The tall buildings outside the car window receded rapidly, while abundant trees and greenery took over.
Judging from the situation, they are on their way out of the city.
5:15 PM.
The military pickup truck came to a stop, and a young soldier jumped out of the back compartment, the door opening with a whoosh.
The car was instantly filled with a cacophony of voices.
They got out of the car and saw a makeshift checkpoint, simply constructed. Inside a white and red striped fence, a dozen long blue tents were pitched, all uniformly printed with the words "Emergency Relief and Disaster Relief." Next to them were several green pointed tents, each with two soldiers standing guard at its entrance. Behind the overlapping tents, a river flowed quietly.
This is a rescue camp in the suburbs outside the city.
The patrol team on the outskirts suddenly saluted as they passed by, and the leader of the team shouted, "Lieutenant Li!"
The sharp-eyed, rugged-looking man nodded to them.
Oh! The man who drove to rescue them was Lieutenant Li, so he must be a high-ranking officer.
Li Nai stared at the back of the man's head. The moment he moved, she quickly lowered her head. The lingering threat from that glance in the car remained.
"Xiao He, take them to the outer resettlement site for a check-up first."
"yes."
At the outer resettlement point a few dozen meters from the main camp, twenty or thirty newly arrived survivors waited anxiously in two long lines.
Five meters away was a young soldier holding a rifle, facing the survivor with a wary look in his eyes.
As soon as Li Nai entered the resettlement site, a tense atmosphere instantly enveloped her.
The tension escalated into a chill as soldiers cleaned up the blood on the ground.
What are they trying to do? Eliminate the un-zombified lurking survivors?
After completing his mission, the soldier named Xiao He turned and left.
The three of them were at the back of the line, in front of an elderly couple in their sixties, with the old woman holding the hand of a six-year-old girl.
After waiting for twenty minutes with the other survivors, no medical personnel appeared. Everyone was getting impatient. Friends and relatives who knew each other whispered among themselves from time to time.
Li Nai turned her head to look at the survivors who were comforting and embracing each other. The sight brought back painful memories of her own lonely and helpless childhood.
Some people in the group took out their phones and dialed again, unwilling to give up.
Seeing the phone, she couldn't help but wonder about the situation in other cities.
He acted on his thoughts, like a little monkey begging for food, rummaging through his pockets looking for his phone.
"Little sister."
A little girl's hushed voice came from below.
"Little sister?"
Li Nai's small body was bent to the side like a mantis shrimp, and her little hands were diligently reaching into her pants pockets.
Glancing over, she saw a six-year-old girl tugging at "Li Nai's" loose jeans and greeting her.
Li Nai blinked her big eyes: "Are you calling me?"
The little girl nodded, looking at the two older girls with some curiosity: "Are they your older sister and your mother? Your older sister is so pretty."
Mom? Who? You can't be referring to her, can you?
Li Nai's chubby face froze instantly.
“It’s so good to have my mom here. My mom went to the hospital to see my dad at noon and hasn’t come to pick me up or my grandparents yet.”
The little girl's eyes showed sadness.
Li Nai, her pent-up frustration finally bursting forth: "Sigh, I guess her parents must have met with some misfortune."
"Little sister, don't worry. Your mother might be taken to a safe base before us, and then you can reunite with her."
Su Momo squatted down, smiling gently, and lightly stroked the girl's soft head.
The little girl's gloomy mood vanished, and her cheeks flushed as she smiled happily. "Sister, my name is Mao Xiaomin. Pretty sister, you can call me Minmin."
Li Nai twitched her lips and said sourly behind their backs, "Being good-looking really does make things easier."
"Hey, hey, they're here." "The doctor's here."
The group became lively, with everyone standing on tiptoe and propping their necks up to watch.
Li Nai leaned on "Li Nai's" head to look up, seeing a jumble of black heads of varying heights, and missed the doctor who had just sat down.
The team moved forward little by little.
The sun was halfway down on the opposite bank of the river, and the ripples reflected off the scattered gold, casting a warm orange-yellow glow on the remaining survivors.
These survivors are very lucky; none of them have shown any signs of infection so far.
The three family members at the front of the line, a grandfather, grandmother, and grandson, each pressed their needle marks on their arms and went to the observation area next door.
Su Momo stretched out her fair arm, squeezed out a drop of water from the fine needle, and gently inserted it into the bluish-purple vein.
"Next."
A report on the spirited female soldier standing next to the female doctor.
Li Nai was carried forward, her clear, large eyes curiously looking down at the female doctor. The doctor had her black, slightly wavy hair tied up, her head lowered, and a pair of gold-rimmed glasses perched on her high nose. Beneath her long eyelashes, her amber eyes were intently disassembling a disposable syringe, the needle piercing the medicine bottle.
Ji Fenglan raised her face, and the surrounding gray background seemed to suddenly become bright and beautiful.
The fingers with distinct knuckles lightly flicked the small syringe soaked in pale blue medicine.
Her rosy lips smiled, and the charming little mole at the corner of her mouth moved with them.
"Mommy first, or baby first?"
Li Nai, who was stunned by the other person's exquisite and noble appearance, immediately sobered up.
Another time, it's Mom? Do I look that loving?
Li Nai glanced at the expressionless "Li Nai".
"Don't be afraid, little one, the injection won't hurt."
Ji Fenglan stood up and took Li Nai's chubby little hand without permission.
"Oh my, your little one's fingers are so soft, so nice to touch. Let Auntie squeeze your chubby little hands."
Her slender, clean, and dry fingers gripped the contrasting small, fleshy hand tightly, and a sudden, icy, stinging pain shot through her short, rounded arm.
Li Nai realized she had been successfully ambushed, and the needle had already been pulled out and thrown into the trash can.
"Next up is Mom."
Li Nai bit her lip and looked at the female doctor with resentment in her eyes, her cheeks puffed out.
Li Nai remained motionless, and the female doctor kindly reminded her again.
The female soldier beside him gave him a cold look and reached for the gun at her waist.
"Reach out your hand."
Li Nai leaned closer to her ear and said.
Li Nai obediently stretched out her arm, her movements so fast that she almost hit the doctor's handsome nose.
Her face was expressionless, and her movements were fierce, which almost made the female soldier draw her gun and fight.
"My mom didn't mean it. The monster was too scary, and she was terrified," Li Nai explained in a childish voice, secretly sweating with anxiety.
Ji Fenglan calmed the female soldier down, skillfully disassembled the new syringe, drew up the medicine, and then inserted the needle into the vein.
It didn't go in.
My fingertips turned white as I stabbed them hard again.
Oh dear, the needle tip is crooked.
The female doctor was stunned for a moment.
Li Nai thumped.
Oh no! It's an invincible body, impervious to swords, spears, water, and fire, given by the system's cheat code.
While the female doctor turned her head to change the syringe, Li Nai immediately withdrew her soul and returned to her original body.
The female doctor turned around, holding a thickened syringe in her hand. The needle tip gleamed coldly and looked as hard as iron!
Grab his hand and plunge it in without saying a word.
"Oh!!!!!!"
Clang! A synchronized sound of gunfire erupted from all around.
A dozen soldiers were on high alert, their black gun barrels pointed at Li Nai.
Li Nai's two black eyes narrowed, turning into a pair of cross-eyed stares at the pistol pressed against his forehead. He turned his head away, pressing the needle mark on his arm with extreme grievance.
Mimi, whom she was holding, lowered her little hands that were covering her ears, grabbed her arm high, and pouted as she exhaled.
"Phew, it doesn't hurt."
The "culprit," Ji Fenglan, smiled sheepishly and watched as the two children went to the observation area.
As the figure disappeared into the distance, Ji Fenglan withdrew his gaze, his eyes turning slightly cold, his smiling lips becoming serious as he stared thoughtfully at the bent needle on the table.
