After cracking open a few sunflower seeds, Lin Ruhai chuckled and said, "Auntie, what do you think is the reason?"
The older woman said, "I don't know, I just heard...heard."
Lin Ruhai looked at the passerby and asked, "You were the one who started saying that. What do you think?"
Passerby A scratched his head. "I... how can I see? I'll see with my eyes."
Lin Ruhai nodded, "I also use my eyes to see, but your eyes are clearly not as bright as mine!"
The woman buying groceries wondered, "Could there really be something fishy going on?"
"Is Mrs. Lin wronged?"
The vegetable vendor looked at Shen Ajiao and asked, "Girl, what was that you just said? What was it again? You think that because Mrs. Lin isn't a daughter of the Shen family, she's doing all this to get revenge?"
Shen Ajiao quickly shook her head, "No, I didn't say that, I just heard it."
"What you hear on the road is not to be believed."
"Besides, why do you think the Shen family would raise her as their own daughter?"
More and more passersby gathered around, and upon hearing this, they couldn't help but ponder it deeply. Nobody knew the truth; they had only heard it from hearsay, yet they couldn't believe it.
You can't believe it, but you're just blowing smoke!
Passerby B: "Do you think he might be Master Shen's illegitimate son?"
"Or perhaps he is the son of Lord Shen's enemy."
Passerby C: "Hey, maybe it really is. Where did the real Mrs. Lin go?"
Shen Ajiao? ? I'm here!
"They might have already been murdered, and the imposter is taking their place to seek revenge. It's no wonder they're not going to let them go!"
"If that's the case, then it makes sense."
Lin Ruhai: "I think he might be the son of my enemy."
Shen Ajiao seconded the motion.
Lin Daiyu listened from the side, not wanting to interrupt, but after thinking about it, she still guided the conversation, "Is it possible that there was nothing in their family that could cause harm, and that it just happened naturally?"
"After all, what can a little girl do?"
Passersby glanced at the little girl and thought, "Yeah, what can a delicate little girl do?"
This family of three is not only good-looking, but they also speak frankly, hitting the nail on the head, being impartial and reasonable!
They all nodded in agreement, "What you said makes a lot of sense, we'll listen to you!"
"In that case, the Shen family must have done something heinous!"
The vegetable vendor smashed a clove of garlic with her palm. "Yes! That must be it!"
"They might kill the parents first, then abuse the children!"
"You'll get your just desserts for doing so many heinous things!"
...
Seeing this, Shen Ajiao shared some more melon seeds with Lin Ruhai, who accepted them without hesitation.
Lin Daiyu found it indecent and refused three times.
So the three of them listened from the inside out, from one end of the street to the other, from one end of the alley to the other, until finally they were all of one mind and their opinions were aligned.
"The Shen family has no morals and has caused great harm to others! Heaven has eyes and has sent down this calamity."
Seeing that it was almost over, Lin Ruhai said to Shen Ajiao, "My lips are dry from all the knocking."
Shen Ajiao clapped her hands. "My mouth is dry too. Come on, I'll treat you and Lin'an to tea today."
Lin Ruhai shook his head. "The people in Lin'an haven't finished eating their melon seeds yet. They'd rather have some monthly allowance than tea."
Shen Ajiao thought about it and realized that it was true. Whatever the food and tea were, paying more wages and bonuses was the only way to show respect to the workers.
"Okay, I'll give them my monthly allowance."
Lin Daiyu indicated that she understood.
Lin Ruhai smiled. Yu'er has always managed the wife's monthly allowance. He heard that the standard has been raised from twenty taels to one hundred taels. It would be appropriate to give it away as a reward.
"Let's go, Yu'er, let's go eat!"
...
Grandmother Jia waited and waited at home, and finally the yamen runners brought Baoyu back. But as soon as she saw Baoyu's appearance, she was so frightened that she lost her voice.
"Ancestor!"
Baoyu called out several times before Grandmother Jia finally responded, "It was...it was that damned bastard...who did it."
"Wasn't it arranged by our ancestors?"
Grandmother Jia looked at the obedient Baoyu and said tremblingly, "What did you say?"
Baoyu said, "Grandmother, it was you who gave the order. I heard it from the person who took me away."
"I said it?"
"Yes! You even said that I once said I wanted to be a monk. You love me the most, so you let me experience it first. That way, I can study hard at home and I will definitely grow up in three years. By then, I will be grown up and able to start a family and build a career."
Grandmother Jia touched Baoyu's bald head and burst into tears, crying out, "My son, my darling!"
Our ancestors were deceived! They were deceived!
That damned Shen family! They said they'd help her if she made a scene and rumors started circulating, but now…
Give me back Baoyu's hair!
Baoyu said, “Grandmother, I am here. I think you are right. After experiencing these things, I have finally seen the light. I was a scoundrel before and caused you worry. It was my fault. Please forgive me, Grandmother.”
Grandmother Jia was overjoyed. "Grandma's Baoyu has grown up. He can say such things. He has really grown up! Good, good! You are Grandma's precious darling. How could Grandma blame you?"
May the gods and bodhisattvas protect us! After this ordeal, Baoyu has grown up. Good! Heaven has spared the Jia family.
Grandmother Jia held Baoyu and said many things to him. Baoyu listened attentively, which made Grandmother Jia even more gratified. After talking for a long time, Baoyu said, "Grandmother, I'm tired."
Grandmother Jia laughed and said, "It's all Grandmother's fault. Go and rest."
He then ordered his men to take Baoyu back.
As soon as Baoyu returned to his courtyard, the maids all around him hugged each other, some crying and some laughing. "Second Master, it's so good that you're back. You have no idea how worried we were these past two days."
Baoyu smiled but didn't say anything. The maids thought he was tired, so they kept bothering him for a while before going back to their own business.
