Mrs. Zhao, unable to vent her anger, smashed two teacups.
She thought Shen Qin'er was just there to make a fuss, but early in the morning, Lord Zhao, with a dark face, subtly reminded Madam Zhao not to make too much of a scene, as it would look bad and with so many people coming and going during the New Year, it could easily lead to rumors.
Mrs. Zhao suppressed her anger, thinking that there would be plenty of opportunities to torment her in the future, so she planned to bring the child to her own yard as soon as it was born so that she could control Shen Qin'er.
On the third day of the Lunar New Year, guests arrived at our home. Mrs. Zhao was entertaining them and they were having a lively conversation.
Then they heard something being shouted incessantly from Shen Qin'er's courtyard. Mrs. Zhao was now extremely annoyed. She shouldn't have been greedy for cheap things and bought a small courtyard. No sound could be covered up. What an embarrassing and conspicuous thing!
Just as she was thinking of an excuse, she saw someone from Shen Qin'er's courtyard rushing in, shouting, "Madam, please call a doctor for my grandmother! She's been feeling unwell ever since she fainted while paying her respects to you!"
"Madam, if you don't care about our grandmother, at least care about the child of the Zhao family in your belly!"

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Zhao's face turned pale, and her nails dug deep into her palms.
She was even more smitten when she saw the way the guests in her home were giving her looks.
His face was kind and gentle as he asked with great concern, "Didn't I already send someone to invite him?"
Then, frowning deeply, she sternly rebuked them, "These servants are slacking off! I won't let them get away with this! They even dare to delay the mistress's affairs! Sell them all off!"
"Someone, quickly go and fetch two doctors for the eldest mistress!"
"Send over the century-old ginseng from my storeroom, along with the blood bird's nest bestowed upon me by the palace."
After saying this, Mrs. Zhao said apologetically to the guests, "I'm so sorry, my daughter-in-law is young and it's her first pregnancy, so she's extremely nervous. I'm sorry you had to see this."
"That's how it is when you're young. The kids are small, so you have to be more tolerant. Now that you're pregnant, you have to be even more delicate." The guest expressed understanding, but that didn't stop them from gossiping.
That's human nature; people look down on those of lower status than themselves, and are bound to speculate about those of similar status.
Many officials travel to the capital to report on their duties at the end of the year, and they all use their own methods to secure a good official position. The wives of officials are all extremely ambitious, as eliminating a competitor will increase their husbands' chances.
The Zhao family is currently experiencing internal discord, so there's no need to say much; a little publicity will suffice.
