"unnecessary."
Lin Ruhai stepped forward and shielded Shen Ajiao behind him, his eyes icy cold. "I had no idea His Majesty had summoned Prince Bei Jing back this time."
"Could it be that he deserted?"
Shui Rong stepped forward and stood in front of Lin Ruhai, saying nonchalantly, "As a grain transport vanguard officer, I naturally have the right to return when there is no more grain."
He gave Lin Ruhai a look that said, "What can you do about it?" and said, "Didn't you want to eat? Let's go, it's on me."
"Your Highness must be tired from your journey. Our family will not disturb you any longer on your way to the palace."
Lin Ruhai was practically begging someone to tie Shui Rong up and bring him into the palace. Why was he coming here instead of going to the palace? What if the Emperor went there and returned? Would he even want to live?
He's estimated to pass away in a couple of days!
Lin Ruhai sneered. Shui Rong was determined to mess with him. Who was afraid of who? He glanced at Lin An, who immediately ran off in one direction. He wanted to see who would risk their life first.
Shui Rong immediately understood what Lin Ruhai was going to do, and stomped his feet in anger. He took a deep breath, and thankfully, he still had a plan.
"It's alright. It takes time to wash up, so as not to be disrespectful in front of the Emperor."
"We dare not presume to know His Majesty's intentions. But, you were washing up in a restaurant?"
Lin Ruhai almost slapped Shui Rong back. He was the emperor's man; did they think he wouldn't dare submit a memorial impeaching him?
Hearing the familiar whistle, Lin Ruhai deliberately looked in the direction of the sound and, sure enough, saw an eunuch from the palace standing behind Lin'an.
Shui Quan gasped and took a step back into the restaurant. This Lin Ruhai had actually done this to him. They'd see!
As she spoke, she glanced at Shen Ajiao, who was leaning against Lin Ruhai's back, her eyes filled with worry. Before leaving, she gave Lin Ruhai a final glare, "Hmph, I'll be back."
Shen Ajiao: The real Grey Wolf.
Lin Ruhai: Get out of here, don't hang around in front of me, it hurts my eyes.
Lin Daiyu: This person seems to be seriously ill.
After the three of them had eaten at the restaurant, Shen Ajiao had no strength left. Lin Ruhai carried Shen Ajiao home and saw Shui Rong sitting there.
Lin Ruhai's expression turned even more unfriendly. "Why is it you?"
"Why doesn't Lord Lin welcome me?" Shui Rong picked up his teacup, took a sip, waved his hand, and an old woman dressed in Miao ethnic clothing walked out from behind him. "Don't assume that others can't do what you can't do."
Lin Ruhai?
What do you mean by that?
"You're charging ahead in battle, and now your home is being raided!" Shui Rong was furious. He was leading the charge when he heard that Lin Ruhai was cursed to be a jinx to his wives, and that his second wife was about to die, and even the imperial physicians couldn't figure out the cause.
He figured it was probably a curse, so he went to Miao territory to find the most experienced Miao doctor. Before leaving, he couldn't help but mock Lin Ruhai, "You'd better investigate who's behind this."
Lin Ruhai was speechless. Did they think he was stupid? While the imperial physicians couldn't find anything wrong, he had secretly investigated for a long time. It wasn't poisoning, but... separation...
Lin Ruhai naturally didn't say this to outsiders, and Shui Rong had no need to. Don't think he didn't know that Shui Rong was always trying to poach his girlfriend; even the dog at the door could see it in his eyes.
"Thank you for the reminder. However, Your Highness, please send an invitation before your next visit."
Shui Rong snorted. He sent an invitation? If he sends an invitation, can he get in? Will he let him in?
He can come whenever he wants.
"I've sent the person to you, why don't you give it a try?"
He was a prince, and he was magnanimous. He didn't argue with the people in front of him, because he had more important things to do.
When Shen Ajiao saw Shui Rong arrive, she didn't want to get involved in their tug-of-war at all, so she simply closed her eyes and fell asleep.
Lin Ruhai also saw that Shen Ajiao was asleep. He glanced at Shui Rong and the Miao doctor, and said, "Show them out!"
Shui Rong wanted to pick his ears. Had he misheard? Show the guest out?
Lin Ruhai wants him to leave?
He no longer wants to save Chen Ajiao!
Could it be that he's the one who harmed Shen Ajiao?
"Lin Ruhai, what do you mean!" If Shui Rong hadn't seen Chen Ajiao in Lin Ruhai's arms, she would have wanted to punch him long ago.
Lin Ruhai looked at Shui Rong, who was blocking his way, and said coldly, "Get out of my way! This is my family matter, and it has nothing to do with you."
"Your family affairs? You don't want her to get better?" Shui Rong looked at Lin Ruhai with suspicion as she said this, and finally sneered, "You think she's no longer of any help to you, so you want to discard her after she's served her purpose? And marry another beautiful wife?"
Lin Ruhai? Is he that kind of person?
Shui Rong stopped Lin Ruhai, gritting his teeth, and said, "This dynasty does allow divorce. If you want to climb the social ladder, you can let her go. Why take her life?"
Lin Ruhai looked at him like he was crazy. Was he the one who killed his wife? He wished his wife would live to be a hundred!
"You're overthinking it! Get out of the way!"
Shui Rong's clenched hands showed no sign of yielding. He was now even more certain that it wasn't hopeless; it was Lin Ruhai who had caused it!
"I'll give you anything you want, but I ask for just one thing: let her go!"
If Lin Ruhai weren't holding Shen Ajiao in his arms, he would have loved to punch Shui Rong.
"Fine, go and confess to the Emperor yourself and you'll be treated leniently."
Shui Rong hadn't expected this request. He had thought it through on his way back: the Emperor Emeritus would eventually pass away, and who knew what would happen then?
He looked at Lin Ruhai for a long time, then said, "Save her first."
"We'll all be on the same side then, it's hard to say."
Lin Ruhai didn't believe Shui Rong could go to such lengths; he was just saying it casually. The next second, Shui Rong glanced at Lin Ruhai and said, "You'd better keep your word, or I won't let you off the hook!"
Shui Rong left the Miao doctor behind, glanced at Chen Ajiao, snorted coldly, and left without looking back.
