Chapter 9 Lin Daiyu: I'm so embarrassed to be called "baby" again!

Originally, the return visit was scheduled for three days later, but Shen Ajiao had no idea about it. Lin Ruhai sent a letter, expecting the Shen family to send someone to reprimand her, but to his surprise, there was no reply by evening.

Lin Daiyu was also puzzled. Ever since she heard the new wife's thoughts, she knew that the new wife was an interesting person, but the Shen family was different.

"Hey, have you heard? Not a single servant or maid from the Shen family came today."

"Yes, everyone says that Miss Shen is pampered at home. I'm afraid it's just a rumor she spread herself."

"I think so too. Look at how she acts all the time, but it turns out she's actually..."

...

“What are you talking about? Tell me too.”

Lin Daiyu was about to visit Shen Ajiao when she saw several maids and servants gathered together in the flower bushes outside her courtyard. She wasn't actually that bored; the maids were just chatting and making merry, talking about all sorts of random things.

She overheard it, and she usually hated people who gossiped behind people's backs. It was their family that had implicated the new wife, and the new wife didn't hold it against them, but these servants were gossiping behind people's backs.

"Ah, Miss." Several maids and servants turned around and saw Daiyu with more than a dozen people looking at them with cold faces. They were so frightened that they knelt down and refused to get up.

Without further ado, Daiyu pointed at one of the younger maids and said, "Who told you that? If you don't tell me, you're out of the manor."

The young maid had only been in the manor for two days. She came from a poor family and was sold into the manor because of her pretty appearance. The first time she met the mistress of the manor, she blushed with embarrassment because of gossip. She nervously twisted the hem of her clothes and stammered, "Yes, yes, it's Sister Zhiling."

Zhiling, who was called out by the maid, hurriedly crawled out on her knees, crying and pleading, "Please spare me, young lady! I only heard it from Granny Zhang, who guards the gate."

"Grandma Zhang?"

Lin Daiyu chewed on the name, looked at the five or six maids and servants kneeling on the ground, and snorted coldly, "Get out of here. Each of them will be fined two months' wages. If they do it again, they'll all be packed up and sent out of the mansion."

After saying this, Daiyu ignored the people on the ground and called over an old nanny, "What's the background of this Granny Zhang?"

The nannies recruited were originally from the old house of Lin Ruhai's birth mother. After the old lady passed away, she retired due to old age and was taken back by her children and grandchildren to live out her days. Now that the Lin family is going through a period of great trouble and there is no one available, Lin Ruhai had no choice but to personally invite several retired nannies back to be placed by Daiyu's side to teach her.

Originally, Daiyu didn't want to get involved when she saw people gossiping, but it was this Granny Lin who reminded her, which led to the scene just now.

"If it were from elsewhere, this old servant wouldn't dare say much, but I do know a thing or two about Granny Zhang at the gatehouse."

Daiyu then learned that the Granny Zhang the maid mentioned was a woman her mother had bought from outside when she was alive. She later married a steward in her mother's household. Because she was strong and capable, she asked her mother for help and was placed in the gatehouse. The old lady had even had a conflict with her mother over this matter, saying that the gatehouse was always the first line of defense in the house and how could it be easily handed over to an outsider.

Daiyu was young and had rarely left the house, so she wouldn't know anything about Granny Zhang. Now that she was saying this, it made some sense. Seeing Daiyu deep in thought, Granny Lin suggested, "Miss, should we…?"

Lin Daiyu pondered the meaning behind Lin Mama's words, and suddenly her heart tightened. "Mama, quickly go and catch that old woman Zhang."

Lin Mama smiled slightly, "Miss, don't worry. Those gossiping people have already been taken away by the master's men, and that Granny Zhang won't get away either."

Lin Daiyu breathed a sigh of relief, but was somewhat dejected. "Granny, do you think I'm stupid? I can't even do one thing right."

Lin Mama sighed inwardly. The girl was indeed exceptionally intelligent, but without proper guidance, she had made many mistakes in handling the matter. Back then, the old lady had suggested taking the girl in to be raised by her side, but the late madam refused.

If the late Madam had been experienced and well-mannered, it would have been fine, but she was sick every three days and seriously ill every five days. The young lady spent all her time taking care of her at her sickbed, but instead of teaching her anything, she became sad and melancholic all day long.

"The young lady was originally frail and not suited for these things, but now that she is getting better, she is managing them very well." Not wanting to discourage the young lady, Lin Mama made up an excuse for Lin Daiyu.

Lin Daiyu's mouth was full of bitterness. How could she not understand? It turned out that Granny Wang had deliberately guided her, saying that these were the servants' matters and that she didn't need to learn trivial things. She only needed to read and write. If it weren't for the new mistress, she probably would still be in the dark.

After her father's advice that day, she gradually became more open-minded. Although she made some efforts, they were ultimately insufficient. If it weren't for Granny Lin and her father's men being there today, those gossipy people would have already tipped off Granny Zhang. By the time she realized what was happening, the place would probably be deserted.

When Shen Ajiao saw Lin Daiyu return with a sorrowful expression, she suddenly remembered what belonged to...

Yin Zheng's exclusive background music

Snowflakes fluttered down, the north wind howled, and the world was shrouded in a vast expanse of white...

Lin Daiyu: The new wife is quite nice. Her words are very well-crafted and original, but they seem a bit off-key.

Shen Ajiao secretly asked the nanny who had come with her, and the nanny told her everything in detail.

Oh, it was just something trivial. I thought something serious had happened.

Lin Daiyu: There are no trivial matters when it comes to me!

[You can be a thief for a thousand days, but you can't guard against thieves for a thousand days. It's really tough on our Lin Baobao.]

He turned and asked someone to bring him a book, then began reading it by himself, occasionally exclaiming, "This is really interesting!"

Wow, so that's how it is.

I really didn't know that if you hadn't told me.

Good heavens, I never knew it could be done like that! Unbelievable!

...

Although Lin Daiyu was dejected, she still kept an eye on the new wife's movements. When she heard the new wife calling her "Lin Baobao" in her heart again, she felt a little embarrassed and wondered if it was too shameful to go on like this.

Aren't you curious about what I'm looking at?

Don't you want to know what I'm praising?

【Come here, Lin Baobao, don't force me to kneel down and beg you.】

Lin Daiyu: This baby is so shameful! She's not a baby anymore, she's already quite old.

She had already finished reading the book "Strategies of the Warring States, Chu Strategies IV" in the new wife's hands, and clearly remembered what it was about. Hearing the new wife's constant exclamations of surprise, she couldn't help but lean forward, wanting to know which page it was.

The words "It's never too late to mend the fence after the sheep are lost" were specially highlighted by Shen Ajiao. Lin Daiyu felt a warmth in her heart. Her new wife was comforting her.

"Thank you for your advice, Madam."

"I didn't say anything?" she blinked her innocent-looking big eyes, seemingly innocent.

Ahhh, consider this my reward for speaking up for me.

[Smart baby, smart baby~ Hiss, hiss.]

Lin Daiyu: So embarrassing~ *covers face and sobs*
