Beauty Bones (Part 8)
Chapter Eight
The next morning, Xie Yuan rubbed her sleepy eyes and got out of bed, her mind still a little foggy.
Hey, how did she fall asleep?
Isn't she on the roof?
How did she get down?
The fireplace in the room was burning warmly. She lifted the brocade quilt, took the snow-white fox fur coat that was placed to the side, put it on, and went out.
Xie Yuan gently pushed open the door, and the apricot blossoms that came into view were still in full bloom, with a thin layer of snow on the branches.
So it was in Cangyue's courtyard house. Her knees were still slightly numb, proving that everything that happened yesterday was not a dream.
"well........."
It turns out that the young apprentice could never get over her death, which led to such a severe nightmare. But if he continues to suppress it like this, he could easily go astray in the future. How can we help him get out of this?
"Squeak."
The door next to her made a soft sound of opening and closing.
Xie Yuan glanced to the side and exclaimed, "Speak of the devil!"
"Young Master Song!" Xie Yuan beamed and skipped over to him. "Did you sleep well last night?"
"It's been like that for so many years, but you are."
Song Ling looked her up and down, finally fixing her gaze on her face: "Last night, I think I saw my master."
Xie Yuanxin's heart leaped into her throat, but she maintained her composure: "Young Master Song, as the saying goes, what you think about at night, you dream about at night. You don't doubt that I am your master, do you?"
“Impossible. I’ve investigated your background. You are indeed the third princess of the Eastern Mausoleum who ran away from her arranged marriage. In the capital, you were a dissolute playboy who accomplished nothing.” Song Ling walked past her toward the swing.
Xie Yuan followed closely behind him, agreeing wholeheartedly, "That's right, that's right."
Hearing his answer, she felt a little relieved. She quickened her pace and headed straight for the swing, only to be grabbed by the back of her collar and pulled back with a resentful expression.
“It snowed last night, the swing is icy, you can’t sit on it.” Song Ling shook her head speechlessly, stretching out her long legs, “You.......”
“Sitting on your lap is the same.” Xie Yuan plopped down without any hesitation. “Thanks.” She rubbed her sore breasts as she spoke. “Go on.”
As expected, Song Ling's lips curled slightly.
"I haven't dreamed of my master for many years since she died, but I still can't accept the fact that she's gone. She promised me she would give me a home and be with me forever..."
Every word Song Ling said felt like it pierced right to Xie Yuan's heart.
That's undeniable; she did say it.
Xie Yuan: Having such a clever apprentice makes lying a real problem.
“I think it might be because your master and I have similar personalities. Although I have never met your master, she must have been very good to you. Even though you said you hated her, you have never forgotten her all these years.”
Xie Yuan racked her brains to steer the conversation back to him. It was better to focus less on her now. If it were anyone else, she wouldn't lie so uneasy. If it were Song Ling, she was really afraid that she would impulsively confess.
"My master is the only person in the world who is kind to me and cares about me."
Xie Yuan's lips curled up slightly as she was praised, struggling to suppress her laughter. Her little apprentice had never said these things to her before. It turned out that he had a high level of approval for her. That meant that although it was her first time being a master, she was doing a pretty good job. Hehe.
"Why are you so happy that I'm praising my own master?" Song Ling lowered her head slightly, watching her chuckle to herself, her shoulders trembling with laughter. She subtly placed her hand behind her waist.
"No, it's just that when I first met Young Master Song, you seemed quite aloof. I didn't expect you to be such a master-obsessed person behind the scenes. I was quite surprised."
Xie Yuan looked at him with bright eyes, as if she wanted him to say more, and that she wanted to hear more.
It seems that his master really has no thoughts about him at the moment, his face is full of satisfaction, and he is almost wearing pride on his face.
That won't do; we need to think of another way.
Song Ling saw through it but didn't say anything, and said calmly, "So, why did you hug me like that yesterday?"
The topic changed so quickly that Xie Yuan was caught off guard by the question. "Huh?" She widened her eyes. "I just saw you were upset and wanted to comfort you." He was a bit emotional yesterday, and she was busy comforting him. Although she was trying to stay rational, she inevitably blurted things out sometimes. She wondered if she had given something away again. She blinked guiltily.
"It's nothing, I need to go do my mission."
Song Ling put her down on the ground with her arm around her waist. "If your legs are numb, go back inside and stay there. Cang Yue will bring breakfast over later. It will take me three more days to finish things here."
Xie Yuan stood there stunned for a moment. Wait, is this guy keeping us hanging on for a second? What is he trying to say?!
"Young Master Song, wait for me, I want to go too!"
Xie Yuan lifted her skirt and hurriedly followed.
——
After Xie Yuan followed Song Ling out of the city, they headed up the mountain. She was familiar with this road; it was the road to the bandit stronghold.
Xie Yuan followed at a distance, munching on a large meat bun as she walked, occasionally darting into the bushes and hiding behind a tree.
When she chased after him, Song Ling had already disappeared. She ended up wandering around for most of the way and finally bumped into him as he entered a restaurant. While waiting for him to come out, she bought a lot of small pastries, buns, and flatbreads, packed them in a small cloth bag, found a tea stall with a good view, sat in a corner, cracked melon seeds, and kept an eye on him. Finally, in the afternoon, she saw him come out.
Based on the information she gathered from Cang Yue and her observations of her young apprentice, his lifestyle was extremely irregular. He was like a hawk being kept in a tether, either not eating at all or eating very little, claiming to be full after only a few sips of porridge. Every day was filled with nothing but tasks. It was truly incredible that he had managed to grow up to be this big without shrinking; he was incredibly lucky.
Sure enough, as people grow up, their rebellious streak also grows stronger every day.
The young apprentice used to be incredibly obedient. He would never go west if told to go east, and he not only ate his three meals a day on time, but he also practiced his skills diligently.
I really miss those days.
Now that he has no official status, it's not appropriate to offer him food. If he wants to leave, she, as his master, has no right to interfere. Sigh, it seems this journey will be arduous.
Cang Yue said that A Ling had been in their organization for ten years, which meant that not long after her death, he began living a life of carnage. Regarding the name of their organization, both of them were very tight-lipped, so she didn't ask too many questions. It seemed that she would have to rely on herself.
Xie Yuan watched Song Ling enter the village alone. She hid outside and observed for a while. After confirming that there was no problem, she was about to come out from behind the tree and sneak in when about seven or eight people in black robes descended from the sky and landed directly in the village.
She was startled and quickly pulled her foot back. Damn, they looked menacing and didn't seem to have any good intentions. These people seemed to be the same group as the black-robed men she and A-Ling had seen dead in the abandoned house that day.
Xie Yuan picked up a sword casually from beside the bandits' corpses outside. Even without internal energy, she could still use her martial arts skills by imitating others.
"This sword is quite heavy." Xie Yuan weighed the sword in her hand. "It's not very comfortable to handle, so I might not be able to use it well."
As soon as she went in, she fell silent.
It has to be said that her luck was unparalleled; she bumped right into a black-robed man carrying a large knife who had come out of one of the rooms after searching without finding anything.
The moment their eyes met, the man in black robes proved to be a ruthless killer. He drew his sword and used his lightness skill to slash at her.
Xie Yuan stood rooted to the spot, speechless with fear: "Big brother, is it really necessary to use such a large knife to deal with a weak woman like me...?"
"Thud" is the sound of a sharp weapon piercing the body.
The man in black robes didn't say another word, his eyes blazing with fury as he glared at the innocent-looking girl who was feigning panic.
How is that possible...?
There was no internal energy fluctuation on this strange girl, but he couldn't even see how she had attacked. Oh no, they were ambushed. Unfortunately, the man in black robes didn't get to say another word before blood gushed from his mouth.
"Excuse me, brother, swords have no eyes, swords have no eyes. Standing is tiring, you should lie down."
Xie Yuan drew her sword swiftly, not forgetting to play her part completely, "Ah, you scared me to death."
The black-robed man's corpse fell to the ground, kicking up a lot of dust.
Seeing that no one was around, Xie Yuan still kicked him and cursed, "Pah, you bullied my disciple."
Having more skills is never a bad thing; these silver needles are quite useful.
Xie Yuan shook off the blood droplets on her sword. She had just finished uttering her harsh words when she looked up and exclaimed, "Whoa, not again?"
"Hey guys, if I said I didn't kill him, would you believe me? Hahaha!"
Xie Yuan chuckled dryly, her eyes practically overflowing with helplessness.
Two men in black surrounded her from the left and right, but neither dared to move forward easily, circling her warily.
"I really didn't kill this man. I'm just a weak woman with no strength to even kill a chicken. I was just trying to help him pull out his sword."
"Look at me, I don't look like I have any murderous features."
“........”
“I’ve already said it, I didn’t kill him, but you just won’t believe me.”
The iconic scene of the two men in black stabbing each other in the heart during their wedding ceremony was born.
Xie Yuan stood not far away, looking "heartbroken," and sighed. There was still some flour stuck to her lips, and her cheeks were puffing out. Hmm, this peach blossom cake is quite authentic. I didn't expect to be able to eat it at the border. I'll buy more when I get back.
There were also a few men in black.
She's dealt with three, but there should be four or five left. Should she hide first? It wouldn't be good if her little apprentice found out.
Little did she know, a man in black had secretly witnessed the entire "murder" and quietly went to find accomplices.
After Xie Yuan finished eating and drinking, she began searching house by house. Halfway through her search, she was surrounded again just as she stepped out of one of the houses…
"Boss, it's her! This girl is incredibly ruthless. Don't let her young age fool you; she killed the third, fifth, and seventh brothers."
"Could she be a witch? The martial world has been quite turbulent lately, we should not act rashly."
"Could he be an evil cultivator?"
"Don't worry about her, let's all attack together. Four against one, she's definitely going to die today."
“........”
Xie Yuan and the four men in black looked at each other, and Xie Yuan yawned sleepily. Are assassins these days so stupid?
They all started talking about her in front of her.
Are we still going to fight or not?
