Five Miles of Fog (Part 3)

Five Miles of Fog (Part 3)

Chapter Thirteen

Xie Yuan wasn't sleepy at all tonight, but she never expected Song Ling to pull this stunt.

Once she saw his breathing gradually become steady and long, she felt relieved and leaned against the carriage, falling into a deep sleep.

Xie Yuan was completely unaware that shortly after she fell asleep, the boy who was resting his head on her lap silently opened his eyes. His eyes were clear, but as he stared at her, a dark undercurrent flowed within them.

Song Ling stood up and moved closer to Xie Yuan again. The young man's jade-like hand gently held her waist. His movements were gentle, as if he was afraid of hurting her. The voice in her mind appeared at the right time, warning him not to break the rules.

Rules? When has he ever been afraid of them?

Even though he suffers from the torment of countless poisons eroding his heart day and night, his expression shows no sign of pain.

What do these things matter compared to losing her?

Master, you really do love me the most.

The boy's lips curled into a gentle, harmless smile, yet it carried a hint of inexplicable, manic joy.

But that's not enough. How could that possibly be enough?

A madman? If I weren't mad enough, how could I get everything I want?

Master, you are mine, and you can only be mine...

But now is not the time...

Only after I've dealt with them all can I be free of any worries.

Master, rest assured, this day will not be long.

Nothing can stop us from being together...

The boy bent down and reverently placed a kiss on the corner of her lips.

Xie Yuan remained sound asleep, completely unaware of what was happening. In her dream, she seemed to smell again that unknown, extremely pleasant, cool fragrance emanating from A Ling.

When Ah Ling was still a little dumpling, she was already familiar with this fragrance. It was just a little faint when she was little. When she first brought him home, she thought he was a dirty little dumpling, but he turned out to be a fragrant little dumpling.

There were many mosquitoes on Luoqi Mountain, and Xie Yuan always liked to sleep with him in her arms back then. The mosquito-repelling effect was far superior to most modern mosquito repellent products.

I wonder what I dreamt about.

The girl looked somewhat sad, and whispered through her lips, "Ah Ling, don't... cry..."

Just as Song Ling was about to leave, the girl unconsciously and gently grabbed the hem of his outer robe. He followed her lead and buried his face in her neck and shoulder, until he was surrounded by the familiar and comforting fragrance of her body.

"Master, please stay by my side forever..."

"If you don't say anything, that means you agree..."

"My master is still the best to me..."

Not long after, when Xie Yuan was "arguing" with Song Ling, she never imagined that such a thing would happen shortly after Song Ling fell asleep...

——

Xie Yuan herself was quite adapted to this kind of wandering life in the martial arts world. In her previous life, she had slept on rooftops, in trees, and in caves on cliffs. She had also used the sky as her blanket and the ground as her bed, sleeping wherever she pleased...

The days spent traveling with old friends still feel joyful and carefree when I recall them now.

The original owner's body was still delicate, and she was struggling to adapt to being out in the past few days, so she often had backaches or neck pains.

Xie Yuan rolled over uncomfortably, hugging the fluffy fox fur coat tightly. She even rubbed her head against it as if that wasn't enough. It smelled so good, a bit like her little apprentice's scent...

Huh? Wait a minute, didn't she sleep in the carriage yesterday?

After leaving the border, the temperature gradually warmed up, but the mornings were still a bit chilly. While her mind wasn't grumpy, her body was... well, very grumpy.

Xie Yuan opened her eyes with difficulty, her mind a complete mess. She blinked slowly a few times, staring blankly in one direction before her gaze slowly began to focus...

The computer booted up successfully. She yawned and sat up. The red and black coat she was wearing slipped off, and she instinctively hugged it to her chest. Looking down, she realized, "Hey, isn't this Ah Ling's coat?"

And the place she was sleeping in was clearly the same place where her little apprentice had slept the day before.

Has her sleeping posture gotten so bad these days?

It couldn't be that she pushed the other person away in the middle of the night, could it?

Xie Yuan grabbed a handful of her messy, waking hair, completely bewildered. Just then, someone gently knocked three times on the carriage window. "Get up, come down for dinner," the young man outside urged softly.

"oh-"

Xie Yuan slowly got up, her black hair unbound, all three thousand strands falling in front of her. She casually brushed her long hair behind her.

Huh, where did her hairband go? She picked up her fox fur coat and shook it, but couldn't find it. She crumpled it up and put it aside, then grabbed her red and black outer garment and shook it vigorously. The carriage was only so big, and she searched everywhere without success.

Xie Yuan lifted the carriage curtain and poked her head out. "A Ling, where did my hairband go?" she asked in a very familiar tone.

Song Ling had somehow driven the carriage to the shade of a tree by the stream. A wild rabbit, sizzling and exuding a fragrant aroma, was roasting on a wooden rack in front of him. He sat beside it, intently fiddling with a palm-sized piece of wood, holding a dagger.

Hearing her words, he stopped what he was doing, looked up, and reminded her, "Is it possible that what you're wearing isn't a hairband but a hairpin?"

Xie Yuan: ".............."

Oh right, yesterday, she forced Song Ling to give her red hairband, tricking him into thinking that in the stories of wandering the martial arts world, one needs to have a youthful spirit, and that he should tone down the aloofness of an assassin so that they could better conceal their identities.

Never mind what I said.

Xie Yuan sheepishly shrank back into herself.

Fortunately, she was using the original owner's body, otherwise her filter as a master would have been completely shattered.

She needs to cover herself up properly; it's too embarrassing!

She would never admit it, no matter what!

The moment the carriage curtain was lowered, a slow smile appeared on Song Ling's lips.

Master is so cute.

I love it.

When will you finally fall in love with me?

Beneath the pale skin of her wrist, something was wriggling and flowing rapidly. Gu worms were frantically clamoring beneath her skin, wanting to drink her blood. It smelled so good and sweet, just like that person.

"Quiet." The boy continued with his work, but the Gu worms seemed to have been frightened and fell silent.

Immediately afterwards, the girl nimbly emerged from the carriage, her voice preceding her arrival.

"Ah Ling!"

Xie Yuan stepped off the carriage that the boy had already placed there and sat down next to him.

Song Ling's hand holding the wooden carving suddenly felt heavy as she tugged at it forcefully. He then looked down at her and asked, "What's wrong?"

Xie Yuan gestured for him to lower his head and whispered in his ear, "I just saw a figure in the bushes over there. Do you think we might look too rich and get robbed?"

Song Ling looked up at the large carriage behind her and said quietly, "You're only just realizing that?"

Xie Yuan innocently rested her chin on her hand: "I was just thinking I'd be more comfortable, wasn't I?"

Another reason is, of course, to maintain the original character's persona...

"So what do we do now? Fight?"

Xie Yuan had barely finished speaking.

What does it mean when plans can't keep up with changes? Well, here it is.

Hundreds of cold arrows suddenly rained down from the sky, as if it had been planned for a long time.

"Grass!"

Xie Yuan couldn't help but curse, "Is it really necessary? This fighting style is clearly aimed at killing them."

Song Ling drew his longsword, reacting first. He grabbed her waist and used his lightness skill to flip onto the horse. With a flick of his wrist, he cut the rope connecting the horse and the carriage.

The horse galloped off like an arrow. It was impossible for Xie Yuan not to be afraid, but what she feared was not her own safety, but that Song Ling would eventually get into trouble.

"pay close attention."

The boy was much taller than her. He hugged her from behind and quickly wrapped the reins around her wrist a few times.

Xie Yuan realized almost immediately what he was about to do. Her heart tightened. Even though her little apprentice was highly skilled in martial arts, she was still worried about his current situation. She reflexively grasped his fingertips and said, "A Ling, you must come to find me."

"Um."

Song Ling gave her a deep look, her eyes filled with emotions that Song Ling couldn't understand.

Can you ride a horse?

The howling wind stung Xie Yuan's cheeks. "I know a little." Her voice was inexplicably tense. She wanted to peek at the pursuers, but halfway through, he pinched her cheek and turned her back. "Don't turn around."

"Knowing a little is enough. Go find a place ahead and wait for me."

Xie Yuan nodded honestly: "Okay."

Song Ling jumped off the horse and watched the girl's figure gradually disappear into the distance before turning back with peace of mind.

It's best not to let Master see what happens next; she'll definitely be angry.

"You are the Ninth Protector of Bu Zhichun. Don't even think about escaping. Hand over that thing."

Hundreds of men in black followed closely behind, instantly surrounding the young man in red in the middle. The masked man in black, who was in the lead, held a strangely shaped, sharp, crescent-shaped knife directly at his face.

The boy tilted his head, his high ponytail swaying gently at his smooth waistline, the red silk ribbon in his hair fluttering in the wind in a beautiful arc. He smiled in a very good-natured manner: "Okay."

The leader, however, did not let his guard down. He was unaware that Chun, an assassin organization that had risen to become the number one ranked assassin organization in the martial arts world ten years ago, had never even seen the true face of their leader. This gave one a sense of the terrifying strength of the person behind them. Moreover, his eight protectors were all highly skilled.

However, the sudden announcement of these nine protectors was unprecedented in the martial arts world. Upon seeing them today, they were such young and handsome boys that they did not seem like people who had something their boss wanted.

If it weren't for the fact that their leader was one of the protectors of the Unknown Spring, they certainly wouldn't have received such accurate information from this Ninth Protector.

All those sent to kill him died without exception, their bodies torn to pieces.

This person is definitely not as simple as they appear.

"If you hand over that thing today, we might spare your life." The leader of the men in black said, waving his hand to signal the others to move closer to tighten the encirclement.

The men in black looked at each other, but none of them dared to step forward easily, after all, they had also witnessed the "horrific deaths" of those people.

The nail that sticks out gets hammered down; nobody wants to lose their life so easily.

Just when the two sides were deadlocked.

The boy, however, was clearly losing patience. "You've wasted my time seeing my master."

His peach blossom eyes slanted upwards as he casually swept his gaze over the crowd before him.
