Chapter 7 He Actually Loves Me Very Much
"There's nothing to be ashamed of. The people are the masters of their own destiny. City dwellers are no better than us. You are very capable and excellent. There's no need to belittle yourself."
Chen Xiang only went to elementary school and didn't understand what "wang" and "fei" meant, but she roughly understood what Su Heng meant.
She blushed a little. Country girls don't often get praised, so she was unusually shy.
"You're right. I was prejudiced against you before. I didn't expect you to be such a nice person."
Su Heng nodded and admitted it with good conscience. She also felt that she was pretty good.
Chen Xiang was silent for a moment.
I didn't expect she had the nerve to admit it. Are good-looking people more confident?
Uncle Chen Xiang's house was at the entrance of the village, and her house was also there. They arrived there in a short while after talking.
Uncle Chen has a large family, and there are several children playing in the yard.
Chen's aunt's surname was Wu. When she heard that Su Heng wanted to buy chicks, she enthusiastically asked her to go to the chicken coop to choose.
There was a very ferocious hen in the chicken coop. When she saw Su Heng coming, she tried to protect her chicks and was immediately dragged out.
"You choose. Our chicks are very strong."
This was true. The chicks, which had just been born, had golden fur and were chirping as they looked at Su Heng outside the cage.
Hei Doudou's eyes are full of curiosity, which is very cute.
"Aunt Wu, how much is one?" Su Heng asked.
"If you want, give me thirty cents each. As you can see, these are all very strong and healthy. They are not the kind that will die easily." Aunt Wu rubbed her hands and felt a little embarrassed when she quoted the price.
Su Heng was not very good at bargaining. Since business was not popular these days, the prices were reasonable.
"Okay, then I want these six." Su Heng picked the ones that were the biggest and most lively.
Although it is not allowed for individuals to raise too many chicks now, raising chicks will cause losses.
Besides, they are raising dogs secretly in the countryside, which is not a strict village, so no one will keep an eye on them and report them.
"Okay, you didn't bring the basket, right? I'll pack this for you and then you can ask Xiang to bring it to me later."
"Okay, do you have eggs for sale?" Su Heng thought for a moment and said.
"Yes, I just saved up a little."
So Su Heng bought some eggs as well, spending just over two yuan.
Chen Xiang was so envious.
As soon as I left the house, I couldn't help but ask, "Do you manage the money in your family?"
Su Heng paused. She didn't care about the money. It was good enough that Lu Mingchuan didn't guard against her.
She said honestly, "No, these flowers are my dowry."
Chen Xiang immediately looked at her like a fool, speechless.
"What's wrong?"
"What's wrong? You look smart, but why are you so stupid?" Chen Xiang said with a tone of disappointment.
Su Heng was bewildered. What? She was stupid?
"My mother said that married men should hand over their belongings. Otherwise, you're running the household, working as a maid for nothing, and even paying for your dowry. Aren't you stupid?"
Su Heng, who was called stupid, smiled and tried to explain: "Lu Mingchuan and I are not what you think. You will know this later."
Their situations are different.
The betrothal gift given by the Lu family was for Lu Mingchuan's wife, but she was not his wife.
She would find a chance to explain things to Lu Mingchuan later; she couldn't stay here forever.
She will have to leave when the college entrance examination is resumed next year.
The direction of this world is a bit similar to her world. In such an era, if you are willing to work hard, everything is possible. How can you really farm in the village?
However, in Chen Xiang's eyes, her divergent thinking seemed as if she didn't know how to excuse Lu Mingchuan.
"It's a waste of your face to be able to control a man. That Lu guy was a soldier, but he doesn't know how to love his wife!"
It's over. Su Heng really couldn't explain herself. Now Lu Mingchuan's reputation was ruined by her.
"It's not what you think. He actually loves me very much. It's just that I spend money too lavishly, so I let him manage the money." Su Heng made up a story with gritted teeth.
Chen Xiang looked at her suspiciously, half believing and half doubting: "Really? But you do spend money quite lavishly. But no matter what, I will definitely not look for a partner like you in the future."
Su Heng nodded in agreement. Her and Lu Mingchuan's situation was special, so they really couldn't learn it.
Fortunately, Chen Xiang's home was not far away, and the two parted ways soon after.
I brought the chicks home and found that there was some movement in the yard today.
Lu Mingchuan was sitting in the front yard cutting bamboo. There was a bundle of thick bamboo next to him. There was a bamboo forest outside the yard near the foot of the mountain.
These bamboos were all transported back in whole pieces. I don't know how he managed to do all this with his disabled leg.
Su Heng felt a little regretful. If she had known earlier, she would have hired someone to help cut the trees and transport them back.
Is this considered bullying the disabled?
Su Heng let the chicks out to run wild in the yard first, and decided to pick some old vegetable roots from the vegetable garden to feed them.
Lu Mingchuan, who was passing by the tree, kindly asked, "What do you want to eat today?"
Lu Mingchuan split the bamboo in his hand in half with a snap and said calmly, "Whatever."
Su Heng snorted lightly: "That's really casual, I'll eat the noodles and you drink the soup."
Lu Mingchuan glanced at her indifferently, meaning that you can give it a try.
Su Heng pretended not to see it, and Pi was very happy about it.
Many of the vegetables in the backyard are old. Summer is coming soon, and it’s time to turn the soil and plant seasonal vegetables.
There is always work to do in the countryside, Su Heng sighed.
After picking the vegetables, I saw that the chicks running around the yard had contributed several lumps of black unknown objects.
Su Heng couldn't stand it anymore.
"Lu Mingchuan, why don't you build a smaller fence this afternoon, just against the wall? These little chickens are so rude!"
Lu Mingchuan didn't say anything, just nodded.
Su Heng threw the old vegetable stems into the corner, and the chicks immediately gathered around and pecked at them.
The chick's beak had not yet hardened, so it was a bit difficult for it to move. She went into the kitchen to cook and didn't see it.
Seeing this, Lu Mingchuan went to the warehouse on the west side, took an axe and chopped the vegetable roots into pieces, then led the group of chickens to the shade by the wall to eat.
On this piece of land, he took the cut bamboo and started driving piles.
Su Heng made vegetable dumpling soup today, and she also found a piece of bacon hanging on the beam in the kitchen.
She cut a piece, washed it, and cut it into small dices with fat and lean parts. She added some garlic sprouts and stir-fried them. The oil mixed with the garlic sprouts was very fragrant.
This kind of meat would definitely be delicious as filling for steamed buns, or for southern dumplings, which are made with this kind of filling.
However, it was too late to ferment the dough, so Su Heng kneaded some white flour to make pancakes.
Rub a little oil into the large iron pan, then put the pancake on it and bake it over low heat.
After a while, the dough was cooked and the oil from the diced fat was sizzling on the dough.
This way, the food doesn’t taste greasy at all, and the balance of fat and lean meat is just right.
Su Heng was so attracted by the delicious taste that she couldn't help but break off a piece for herself. Her cooking skills have really improved. It's so delicious!
After serving the last pancake, Su Heng shouted into the yard, "Lu Mingchuan, wash your hands and eat!"
Perhaps he also smelled the fragrance, but Lu Mingchuan lowered the half-fenced fence and quickly came in to scoop up water to wash his hands.
The dumpling soup was still quite hot, so Su Heng used a rag to pad the soup and ran twice to bring everything to the main room without asking the lame man to help.
