Chapter 18 The House is Completed (Part 2)

After a while, Hu Zi and a few other little kids came over, each carrying a basket of pebbles.

"Sister Yun, can you take a look at the rocks we picked up?"

Yun Yan picked up a few pebbles and looked at them. They were all the size of eggs that she had requested.

"This is the size of stone my sister wants. You are really smart."

When the little kids heard Yun Yan praising them, they were all very happy.

"Are you guys going to exchange for money or candy?"

"I want to exchange money"

"I want to exchange it for sugar"

Several little kids were talking at the same time, and Yun Yan found it a bit confusing.

"Speak one by one, don't argue."

In the end, only Shitou and Niudan asked for a penny, while Huzi and the other three asked for candy.

"Sister Yun, let's continue picking up stones."

A few little kids poured the pebbles in the baskets into the place she designated and then ran away with the baskets.

"Be careful not to go into the river."

"knew."

After Hu Zi and the others left, Yun Yan saw a few children she didn't recognize left there. "Little friends, what can I do for you?"

A little boy timidly asked, "Sister, can we go pick up some rocks for you too?"

It turned out that he was a child who saw Hu Zi and the others exchanging stones for things and wanted to join in.

"Of course, but I just want big rocks like this."

Yunyan took out a few stones that Hu Zi and his men had picked up and showed them to them.

After understanding the request, the other children ran to pick up stones.

In one afternoon, Yun Yan collected nearly two hundred baskets of pebbles.

She first asked the master to take a part of it in to pave the bathroom, and then pave the road outside after the well was dug.

After dinner, Yunyan came to the big tree at the entrance of the village. She had agreed with a few aunts and sisters to teach them how to tie their hair.

Several older ladies arrived earlier than her, and Yunyan chatted with them while teaching them how to tie their hair.

"Yun Zhiqing, I heard from my Niu Dan that you paid them to pick up rocks for you. What do you want all these rocks for?"

"My little yard is almost finished. I thought if it rains, the yard will be all muddy and inconvenient to walk on. Buying bluestone slabs is too expensive, so I asked Hu Zi and Niu Dan to help me pick up some pebbles to pave it."

"So that's how it is. You city people are really particular."

"That's right. People in our village don't like this. If our feet get muddy, we just wash them off."

"You can't say that. Yun Zhiqing is from the city, how could he be as dirty as us?"

"You aunties, you're joking. This has nothing to do with whether you're from the city or the countryside. It all comes down to personal habits. Some people prefer cleanliness, while others think anything is acceptable."

"What Yun Zhiqing said makes sense. After hearing what you said, I want to ask those bastards at home to pick up some stones and pave the ground."

"Yun Zhiqing, please don't give my Hu Zi so much candy. This bastard has cavities, yet he still eats so much candy."

"And my Xiaodong too. Yun Zhiqing, please don't give him so much candy."

The next day, when Hu Zi and his friends brought pebbles to exchange for sugar, Yun Yan refused to give them any.

"Sister Yun, why can't we exchange it for candy?"

"Your grandma said you ate too much candy and asked me not to exchange it for you, so now each of you can only exchange a maximum of two candies a day."

"Sister Yun, don't listen to my grandma. My teeth are not broken at all."

"Really? Then open your mouth and let me see."

Hu Zi opened his mouth obediently, and Yun Yan deliberately frightened him: "Oh, this tooth has grown so big, it needs an axe to knock it out."

"Hurry up and find me an axe."

When Hu Zi heard Yun Yan's words, he immediately closed his mouth and covered it with his hands.

"Sister Yun, please don't hit my teeth with that axe."

"Do you want some candy?"

“No! No!”

After saying that, he ran away immediately. Yun Yan laughed out loud as she looked at his chubby body swaying back and forth.

After two days, Yun Yan had received a thousand baskets of pebbles. Seeing that the stones were almost enough, Yun Yan told the children that they didn't need to pick up any more stones.

Although Hu Zi and the others were a little disappointed, no one bothered Yun Yan to continue collecting stones.

During the days when Yunyan was collecting stones, something big happened in the Youth League Institute.

An old educated youth named Li Wei was going to marry the daughter of the brigade accountant.

It was not uncommon for educated youth to marry villagers, but Li Wei caused trouble.

Li Wei was originally in love with another female educated youth named Wang Fang, and they were about to get married. However, in order to get a place at the Workers, Peasants and Soldiers University, Li Wei fell in love with the daughter of the brigade accountant.

Wang Fang was so depressed that she attempted suicide by hanging herself at the educated youth camp a few days ago. Fortunately, she was discovered early and rescued.

Yun Yan scoffed at what happened at the educated youth point. A man who could abandon his lover for a college place would sooner or later abandon his accountant daughter who helped him go to college for his own future.

I’m afraid that by then the brigade accountant and his family won’t even have a place to cry.

Yunyan originally thought that the matter was over, but on the day Li Wei married the daughter of the brigade accountant, Wang Fang actually jumped into the river.

When she heard the news and returned to the educated youth center, Wang Fang had already been rescued. After waking up, Wang Fang was making a fuss at the educated youth center, begging for death.

"Why did you save me? Why didn't you let me die? There's no point in me living anymore..."

Several old female educated youth surrounded Wang Fang and tried to persuade her.

"Wang Fang, you have to be more open-minded. You only have one life, and if it's gone, it's really gone."

"Yeah, it's not worth it for a man."

"What do you know? You don't understand how important he is to me."

Yun Yan got furious when she heard this. This wasn't pure love.

Seeing that Wang Fang was still throwing a tantrum and complaining, Yun Yan walked up and slapped her.

Everyone was stunned when they saw Yunyan slap Wang Fang. It took a while for Wang Fang to realize that she had been hit.

"Yun Zhiqing, why did you hit me?" After Wang Fang reacted, she immediately stood up and questioned Yun Yan.

"Does it hurt?"

"What did you say?"

"I asked you if it hurt when you were beaten?"

Wang Fang looked at Yun Yan without saying anything, and Yun Yan continued, "If you're not even afraid of death, how could you be afraid of pain?"

"I slapped you just to wake you up, Wang Fang. I have something to say to you: Love yourself before you love others, and make a living before you seek love."

"The first thing a woman should learn is to love herself. You may be someone else's wife or mother in the future, but you must always remember that you are Wang Fang first, and then someone else's mother, daughter, and wife."

“Learn to love yourself first before you can be loved by others. No one in this world is more important than yourself.”

After saying that, he turned around and went back to the room without caring about what Wang Fang and others thought.

I don’t know if my words worked, but from that day on, Wang Fang never tried to commit suicide again.

Half a month passed in a blink of an eye, and Yunyan's house was finally built.
