Chapter 5: Collecting Stamps

Yunyan greeted the old man at the scrap collection station and went in.

I rummaged through the pile of junk but didn't see anything valuable.

As expected, the stories in the period novels about going to scrap recycling stations and Taobao are all scams.

Yun Yan looked at the old man guarding the door, wondering if he had anything good in his hands.

I picked up some newspapers and took them out to the old man to weigh them.

"Thirteen pounds and four ounces, thirteen pounds is yours, twenty-six cents." The old man said expressionlessly.

Yun Yan gave him three cents, and while he was finding the change, she spoke tentatively.

"Uncle, you stay here all day, have you ever seen that kind of old stuff?"

After hearing Yun Yan's words, the old man looked at her with a wary expression. "Why are you asking about this, little girl? Those things are all "Four Olds" and who would keep them?"

"Don't get me wrong, uncle. It's my grandma. She's going to die soon. Yesterday she held my hand and said she hoped to have a few old things to be buried with her."

"Who would dare to keep this thing these days? I'm asking you because I'm at my wit's end."

Yunyan started crying as she spoke.

Is it easy for me? In order to collect some money to make a living in the future, I am almost becoming a movie queen.

The old man at the scrap collection station didn't look so serious anymore when he heard Yun Yan's words. Yun Yan saw that something was going to happen and immediately leaned close to his ear and whispered.

"Don't worry, sir. If you give me this, I won't take it away. And I won't take it for free. I can exchange it with you."

After hearing Yun Yan's words, the old man whispered back, "Come over at seven tonight. I'll see what you bring and then decide."

With the old man's reply, Yun Yan felt much happier. No matter how many antiques she could exchange for, even just one would be something worth being happy about.

Passing by the post office, Yun Yan thought of the sky-high priced stamps of later generations, such as the Dragon Stamp, the Monkey Stamp, and the "The Whole Country is Red" Stamp.

These types of stamps became more and more expensive in later generations. I wonder if I can find a few to collect.

I walked into the post office and took a look. At first glance, I saw two pieces of "The Whole Country is Red" on the counter.

Restraining her excited heart and trembling hands, Yun Yan bought a few other stamps and pretended to be interested in the "The Whole Country is Red" stamp.

"This stamp looks so festive in its bright red color. Can you show it to me?"

The waiter immediately took out the stamp and placed it on the table. Yun Yan picked it up and looked at it carefully.

"They're quite festive and would make a great wedding gift. Could you help me calculate the price of these two along with the other stamps?"

While counting the money, the waiter complained in his heart: This person is so stingy that he gave his friend two eight-cent stamps as a wedding gift.

Yun Yan had no idea what was going on in the waiter's mind and was not interested in it. Her mind was now full of small amounts of money.

After leaving the post office with the stamps, Yun Yan immediately put them all in her space and went to the department store to buy a stamp album.

Seeing that it was almost time for lunch, Yun Yan went to the state-owned restaurant again.

It was the same waiter from last time. Yun Yan secretly slipped her a few White Rabbit milk candies while no one was around.

"Sister, take these candies back to my nephew and niece to sweeten their mouths."

"Sister, what are you doing? Take it back quickly." As he said this, he was about to stuff the White Rabbit milk candy in his hand back into Yun Yan's hand.

"Sister, I need your help with something. I'm going to the countryside soon, and I won't be able to eat such delicious braised pork again. Can you sell me a few more portions today so I can take them away?"

After hearing Yun Yan's words, the waiter felt relieved. It was no big deal to just buy a few more servings of meat.

"Don't worry, sister. I'll ask the kitchen to leave two portions for you to put in your lunch box later."

"Thank you, sister." After saying that, Yun Yan took the ordered food and left the counter.

After finishing her meal, Yun Yan got the lunch box and looked at the box full of meat. She knew that the waiter had prepared it specially for her.

After putting the lunch box into the space, Yun Yan returned home and began to put all the pots, pans, and utensils in the house into the space.

Yun Yan entered the space and put all the stamps she bought today into the stamp album. Although other stamps may not have much collection value, she decided to keep them well since she had collected them.

Looking at other things, the supplies were basically untouched. Thinking about the transaction with the uncle at the scrap collection station tonight, Yun Yan began to prepare.

Ten pounds of rice, five pounds of flour, one pound of brown sugar, and five meat buns.

It's not that I'm generous, it's just that the meat buns are too small. A woman like me can finish one in two bites.

Seeing that it was still early, Yun Yan took out the cloth she had bought earlier and started cutting.

She planned to make a skirt and a suit of clothes. After a lot of hard work, it was almost six o'clock when the skirt was finished.

It was almost seven o'clock after dinner. Yun Yan packed the prepared things into a backpack and went out.

They were almost at the scrap collection station, and Yun Yan took out a backpack from the space and put it on her back.

I knocked on the door five times, three long and two short. This was the secret signal agreed upon with the old man.

After a while, the old man opened the door and let Yunyan in.

Yunyan saw that there was a child inside. The old man introduced him as his grandson who went to school during the day.

Yunyan took out two White Rabbit milk candies and gave them to him. He looked at the candies in Yunyan's hand and turned back to look at his grandfather.

Only after seeing Grandpa nod did he take the candy from Yunyan's hand and thanked Yunyan in a childish voice.

The old man was a little surprised when he saw what Yunyan took back from the backpack. Was he seeing things like rice, flour and pork belly?

The old man thought Yun Yan would at most exchange sweet potatoes, potatoes and cornmeal with him, but who knew that what she took out were all good things.

I have never seen the quality of rice and flour like this in my sixty-plus years of life.

Yunyan handed five meat buns to the old man, saying that they were a gift and a token of her appreciation.

The old man and his little grandson were both staring at the meat buns. The hot meat buns smelled so good.

The old man took out one and gave it to his little grandson, then asked Yunyan to wait for a while and turned around and walked inside.

The old man's little grandson was chewing a meat bun with his mouth full of oil, but Yun Yan didn't pay any attention to him.

Soon the old man came out with a box, which he put on the table and opened.

Yun Yan was stunned when she saw what was in the box: two pairs of jade bracelets, several jade pendants, two pearl necklaces, and several ruby rings, with a layer of gold bars underneath.

Although I don't understand it, I can guess that the things in front of me are worth a lot of money.

The old man handed the things and the box to Yunyan. Yunyan repeatedly promised him that she would never disclose what happened today, and would not give him up even if she was caught.

After leaving the scrap collection station, Yun Yan immediately returned home and entered the space with the box.

Yun Yan took out the things in the box and examined them carefully. Both pairs of bracelets were imperial green, and several jade pendants were also of very good quality. She felt like she was going to be rich.
