Chapter 64 Playing Mahjong

Lin Wanwan brought Xiaobai back home. There were already many people sitting at home. Some children came up to greet them hurriedly. She took the red envelopes and gave them to them one by one, even the adults who came to pay New Year's greetings were no exception, because she was older than them.

Sure enough, not long after, some younger people came with their children, and the house was very lively. Fortunately, there were plenty of candies and cakes prepared, otherwise there would not be enough food to share.

Shitou Huzi and Yusheng also came. After wishing her a happy new year, Lin Wanwan gave them the red envelopes she had prepared.

"Why didn't Shen Mo come with you?"

Lin Shitou ate some snacks and said, "He and his brother went to pay New Year's greetings to Master Lin. They had just gone in when we came out."

Lin Wanwan called Lin Bai over and asked them to go and wish Master Lin a happy new year. She had already asked someone to deliver the new year gifts the day before, so they could just go and wish him a happy new year.

A group of children rushed to Master Lin's house in a hurry.

She asked Shitou and the others to sit down and eat, and they chatted while eating.

After a while, Shen Li and Shen Mo also came.

"Happy New Year, auntie!"

"Happy New Year, Aunt Lin!"

Lin Wanwan smiled and joked, "Happy New Year, nephews!"

"This, hahahaha..." Shen Li laughed.

Lin Wanwan took out red envelopes and gave one to each of them.

Chen Li declined politely: "Aunt, I am an adult now, I don't need a red seal."

Shen Mo also nodded heavily.

"That won't do. Everyone who comes to pay New Year's greetings gets a red envelope. We can't be partial to one and treat the other differently. Adults get one too!"

Lin Wanwan forced it upon them, "Hurry up and take them all, or I'm afraid you won't have enough money to lose soon."

She asked 857 to make a few sets of mahjong some time ago. When she was building a house or repairing a bridge, she accidentally found a few large white stones with fine and smooth texture without any color. She originally wanted to keep them as ornaments, but she was bored, so she asked 857 to make mahjong. The mahjong made was like white jade and felt very good.

She arranged for everyone to sit down and had someone bring up the mahjong table. She counted the number of people and found that there were only six, so she called Nan Xi and Nan Xing as well.

She, Shen Mo, Chen Li and Nan Xi were at one table, while Hu Zi, Shi Tou, Yu Sheng and Nan Xing were at another.

Lin Wanwan explained the rules to them, including how to play cards, listen for cards, and win. They listened carefully and played one more round to familiarize themselves with the game. In the second round, they would start playing to win money.

"Girl, I, I'm a little scared..."

Lin Wanwan looked at Nan Xi who was sitting opposite her and consoled her: "Don't be afraid, Nan Xi. I'll cover for you if you lose. Just do your best to beat them!"

Nan Xi nodded and began to play cards seriously.

In the first few rounds, Lin Wanwan was like a fish in water and won every time. But slowly, the two brothers understood the rules and played so dirty that she couldn't figure out what they were doing.

Shen Mo, the player above her, was on high alert against her, and she could do whatever Shen Li, the player below her, did. Moreover, Shen Mo always played cards unpredictably. You could never guess what card he would play next or what kind of hand he would win. She was almost losing her mind.

After playing a few rounds, Lin Wanwan decisively adjusted the wind. She did not move, only Shen Mo and Nan Xi changed.

After Shen Mo was replaced, the situation got much better. Nan Xi understood her too well and kept feeding her cards. After winning a few times, she finally regained her confidence and competed with the two of them in a battle of wits and courage.

The table of Shitou and his friends was even more interesting. Although Shitou was not very good at studying, he was very smart when playing this game. Huzi was also rough but smart, and he won by catching his opponent off guard. Not to mention Lin Yusheng, who could remember and count the cards. Only Nanxing was like a little fool, and kept losing money.

They played for the whole afternoon. Lin Wanwan finally counted the money and found that she had lost more than five taels, Nan Xi had lost less than two taels, and Shen Mo and Shen Li both won money. Shen Mo won the most, more than four taels.

"Aunt, let's play together next time." Shen Mo said to her with a smile.

Lin Wanwan glared at him and said angrily, "I'm not playing with you guys! Do you think I'm a fortune-giving boy?"

"Hahaha! Don't you want to win back?"

"Shen Mo, just wait! Next time, I, your aunt, will make you lose everything!"

Chen Li smiled and patted her head, "Wanwan, do you want him to embarrass himself in the streets? Next time, I will help you and I will definitely win all his money!"

"Good! Win them all! Let him have no money left!"

Shen Mo was in a very good mood, with a smile on his face.

"The money-giving boy comes to give me money, so of course I have to take it!"

Lin Wanwan snorted and went to look at Shitou and the others’ table.

After watching two rounds of games, she felt that everyone at the table was a tough guy. Only Nanxing was like a little fool. He dared to use any cards and would get into trouble if he was not careful.

In the end, Lin Wanwan resigned herself to her fate and paid the twelve taels of silver for her, and they all went home happily.

After dinner in the evening, she kept the two of them for special training. She was not worried that they would lose money, but she was afraid that they would not even be able to read the cards clearly and make random bets.

On the second day of the Chinese New Year, Lin Wanwan and her family didn't have many relatives, so they went to Sister Yuying's house for lunch. In the evening, they asked someone to prepare food and went to Grandma Suchun's house to have a lively dinner with the old lady.

On the third day of the Chinese New Year, she took Lin Bai to her grandparents' house to wish them a happy new year. Her grandparents and uncles all gave them big red envelopes, which they happily accepted.

At noon, my aunts killed chickens and stewed meat, making a large table of dishes.

Lin Wanwan and Lin Bai both had a good meal. Although there was no seasoning, it was very delicious.

"Wanwan, this first batch of chickens and ducks have already fattened up, and they will be ready for market in another month!"

"Gaining weight in winter? What do you feed them, uncle?"

Chen Wenshan smiled and said, "Winter is the best time for them to gain weight! They don't run around much. We dug a few holes in the river surface, and the fish jumped out by themselves. The ducks are eating happily!"
