When Hua Shi heard the unusual movement, he also looked over curiously.
I saw a woman with disheveled hair and tattered clothes, with her arms and thighs exposed, walking towards the crowd, or rather the stove where steam and fragrance were coming out, from somewhere.
She stumbled over, her dark face making it impossible to see her expression, but one could see her unclear look in her wide-open eyes.
Wherever she passed, the girls and women gathered together picked up the things in their hands and hid far away, for fear of being contaminated by something dirty.
When Sister Hua saw the person coming, her expression immediately changed. She cursed in disgust, "What a sin! That little bastard has come over again. It's such a good day, but it's really unlucky!"
Hua Shi was a little surprised when he heard her cursing.
Sister Hua, who was so cheerful and talkative just now, now had an expression of disgust and abomination. Her naked disdain seemed as if she had seen something dirty.
Before Hua Shi could ask, Sister Hua rushed out of the straw shed with the spatula in her hand, and a sharp voice rang out:
"What are you all doing?! How did you let this filthy thing get here?! Isn't that disgusting?! Get rid of her!"
As soon as the loud voice came out, two strong men came running over from not far away, dragged the crazy-looking woman away with disgusted expressions.
Hua Shi's gaze followed curiously.
The two men dragged her away roughly. The crazy woman seemed to be muttering something, her eyes wide open and lifeless. They were dragged into an invisible grove and then there was no movement.
The women and girls sat back together again, their expressions of disgust still lingering.
Hua Shi saw Sister Hua spitting, her expression looked a little ferocious, and she cursed a few more times before walking back.
Hua Shi blinked. From the beginning to the end, she had no idea what was going on.
Sister Hua came back and saw her confused expression. She said with some disgust, "She's just a crazy woman. Don't bother with her."
"Crazy woman?" Hua Shi suppressed the curiosity that was spreading in his heart and repeated the question in a low voice.
Sister Hua looked at her, her expression becoming a little strange again: "You don't know? Even that crazy woman doesn't know?"
Hua Shi shook his head.
"How come you don't know anything? Are you really from our village? Forget it, that crazy woman's surname is Zhang. She wasn't originally from our village. She was bought from a human trafficker for her son by Li Mapo. She was fine when she was bought back, but she went crazy after a few years."
Sister Hua paused as she spoke, as if she remembered something, and her expression of disgust intensified.
"That crazy woman was crazy to begin with. She was just a slave, a low-class prostitute. It was only because Li Mapo was greedy that she bought her back and made her her son's wife..." When she said this, Sister Hua's words paused more clearly, and then she continued:
"It turns out she wasn't from this village. I don't know where she came from. She was also a jinx. After she married Li Mapo's son, she miscarried in the first two pregnancies. She finally got pregnant again, and this time she gave birth safely, but..."
Sister Hua looked around as she spoke. Seeing no one was paying attention, she slowly lowered her voice and said, "...that baby was only four months old, barely weaned, when he was mauled to death by a stray dog!"
Hua Shi's pupils trembled, and he was also shocked by these words.
Seeing her shocked expression, Sister Hua seemed somewhat satisfied and continued, "The child was mauled to death by wild dogs, and I heard that when they found her, she had been eaten to the point where only a few bones were left, a bloody mess of flesh. Oh, pitiful... Alas, not long after, her husband died, and she herself went mad. What a jinx."
Hua Shi swallowed her dry throat.
Sister Hua continued, "Then she was driven out by Li Mapo. It's been over a year now, right? It snowed so heavily in the last two or three months, and she didn't freeze to death. She's really lucky. As the saying goes, 'Good deeds go unrewarded, while evil deeds last for thousands of years.' That's exactly what she's like."
Sister Hua's tone was unconsciously tinged with disgust. "After that, this little bitch went crazy, always mumbling about something... Oh, right, she said she was living in a storybook, this is the storybook world, saying... She wanted to find a way to return to the real world, and she was pretending to be mysterious. Everyone in the village said she was crazy, and no one wanted to pay attention to her. Let's not talk about her anymore. It's such a good day, and it's unlucky to talk about it."
After saying that, Sister Hua didn't want to say any more.
Hua Shi grasped the key point of her words, and his pupils dilated significantly, the shock hidden in them almost overflowing.
The world of storytelling?
Back to the real world?
Hua Shi pinched her palms unconsciously, turned her head, and her eyes vaguely fell on the direction where the crazy woman who was dragged away disappeared.
Her mood at this moment was mixed...
She was not originally from this world. For some unknown reason, her soul traveled to this world. Her memories and everything she saw vividly told her clearly that this was not a dream, but something that really happened.
She was a little curious about the woman who was called a crazy woman...
Could it be that, in this other, unknown world, her soul had truly been transported to a storybook world? And she had simply never realized it...?
After all, from everything I've seen and learned so far, this place doesn't seem to be from any dynasty's history. From the clothing, hairstyles, and tools used in daily life... none of them are recorded in any real ancient history... Instead, it really has some of the feel of a fictional world, something out of a storybook? A fictional world?
