Chapter 225 Why Don’t You Speak

"You're crying Hua Li?! What are you crying for??"

Xie Wanyuan poked his head out from the door frame. As soon as he came in, he noticed Hua Li's red eyes with tears in them. It was obvious that she was crying.

Because the courtyard gate was open, several young children were looking into the yard, their big eyes all focused on Hua Li.

Hua Li suddenly saw his usual friend, his face blank for a moment, then he realized what had happened, raised his hands and rubbed his eyes vigorously to wipe back the tears, then looked back with red eyes.

Stubbornly and proudly retorted: "I didn't cry...!"

Xie Wanyuan took in the entire situation in the courtyard and noticed that Hua Xiao's eyes were also red, as if she had just cried. Hua Shi was standing in front of them...

In just a moment, Xie Wanyuan imagined all sorts of things in his mind...

Could it be that this vicious woman is bullying Hua Li and the others again? Look how sadly Hua Li is crying.

Xie Wanyuan glared at Hua Shi secretly, thinking he was being very secretive, but when he raised his eyes again, he met Hua Shi's gaze.

The latter raised his eyebrows, not showing any guilt at all in the look he gave her.

Xie Wanyuan thought he had found the truth. He gritted his teeth, glanced at the friends behind him, and walked into the yard with firm steps.

"Hua Li! Tell me, did she bully you?!"

Although it was a question, the unconsciously emphasized tone and accusing eyes showed that he was sure of what he said.

Hua Li looked up in confusion, "Wha...what?"

Xie Wanyuan trotted in, looking a bit disappointed with Hua Li. He reached out and tugged at Hua Li's arm, lowering his voice and saying, "It's just... weren't you crying? I'm asking you if she bullied you!"

As Xie Wanyuan spoke, he secretly raised his hand and pointed in Hua Shi's direction. When he looked up and saw Hua Shi looking at him, he glared at her in dissatisfaction.

These words were spoken almost right into Hua Li's ear, and Hua Li finally realized the meaning of Xie Wanyuan's words and quickly shook her head to deny it.

Xie Wanyuan was stunned for a moment. Seeing that Hua Li was shaking his head like a wave drum, he was sure that Hua Li was denying his guess.

He felt a little embarrassed and uncomfortable and touched his nose, "Then...then why are you crying?"

Xie Wanyuan looked at his red eyes, then looked at Hua Xiao beside him. She also had red and swollen eyes. He couldn't be mistaken.

Hua Li lowered her head and didn't answer his question directly. Instead, she changed the subject and asked, "Why are you back? Aren't you in the academy?"

Children in the village school usually only come back during the busy farming season. Normally, it takes two or three months for them to leave.

He had secretly followed and seen the school before. The school was spacious and bright. The students ate and slept there. There were teachers supervising their studies and reciting poems. Whenever he passed by, he could hear the catchy verses...

Hua Li thought about it and looked at Xie Wanyuan distractedly.

Xie Wanyuan scratched the back of his head, looking a little uncomfortable. He deliberately lowered his voice and whispered, "I... skipped school. Shh sh sh sh... don't talk."

Hua Li's eyes suddenly widened, and she subconsciously wanted to ask him why he skipped school, but Xie Wanyuan covered his mouth with his hand, preventing him from asking.

"Shh... I told you to stop talking." Xie Wanyuan felt a little embarrassed and said hurriedly.

Hua Li nodded weakly.

Xie Wanyuan finally let go of her hand and asked, "Do you want to go out and play with us?"

As he asked, he raised his chin and looked at the open gate. Outside the door frame were three round black heads and six pairs of big dark eyes, looking at him curiously.

Hua Li shook his head dejectedly, "I'm not going. You guys go."

If it were any other time, he would definitely be very happy. Xie Wanyuan skipped class and came to play with him, so of course he was happy.

But now that his second brother was still in danger, he had no mood to play around...

Xie Wanyuan noticed that something was wrong with his expression, frowned, and started thinking to himself.

What's that expression? What does it mean...?

"What's wrong with you?" Xie Wanyuan, adhering to the principle of mutual care between good friends, asked again after realizing that something was wrong with him.

Hua Li pursed her lips and stopped talking.

Xie Wanyuan touched his head and looked at it for a long time, but couldn't see any problem.

It was Hua Shi who spoke up and broke the deadlock, "He doesn't want to go. If you're willing, you can sit in the yard for a while and talk to him."

She saw Hua Li's worry, and it would be impossible for him to go out and play without distraction at this moment.

Hua Yu's condition had not stabilized yet, and she was worried. While thinking about it, Hua Shi left these words and turned to walk into the inner room.

Only after Hua Shi's figure disappeared from his sight did Xie Wanyuan breathe a sigh of relief. He glanced at Hua Xiao several times and confirmed once again that Hua Xiao's eyes were red. He was certain that the two of them must have been crying and something had happened that he didn't know about.

Hua Li was in a sullen state again, showing no intention of explaining anything to him. Xie Wanyuan felt a little angry.

They were obviously good brothers, so why did she not want to tell him about what happened...

Xie Wanyuan was upset, but he still had to say what he had to say, "Hua Li, just tell me the truth! What happened? Why are you silent?"
