The tender green leaves of the bamboo forest rustled in the wind. The mottled sunlight filtered through the sparse leaves, and the shadows cast on the ground swayed from side to side.
“Da da da…”
Suddenly, there was a sound of light and quick footsteps behind me.
When Hua Shi turned around, she saw the little guy running out of breath with a red face.
Before Hua Shi could say anything when she met Huaying's blinking eyes, the little guy trotted over, walked straight past her, and hugged a bamboo as thick as his arm.
"Xiaoying, what are you doing?" Hua Shi reached out and pulled the person back.
“Eat, eat…”
The little guy was grabbed by the back of his collar, and his expression became a little anxious. He pointed at the bamboo, bared his neat teeth, and shouted that he wanted to eat.
"What do you want to eat?"
When the flowers bloomed, I looked at the dense bamboo forest and the fallen bamboo leaves on the ground, but I didn't see anything edible.
Huaying anxiously pointed at the bamboo and continued to mumble that she wanted to eat it.
Hua Shi thought about it and realized that the food he was talking about was the bamboo shoots from last time.
She slapped the back of her head, squatted down, and explained, "Xiaoying, it's already autumn. I misremembered it. There are no edible bamboos in this bamboo forest anymore. The edible ones have all grown old. We have to wait until winter. Maybe tender ones will grow."
Huaying blinked her big, twinkling eyes. She didn't understand a lot of what she said, but she heard clearly that there was no food. Her mouth pursed and tears suddenly welled up.
"Wow..."
Children don’t understand anything and only believe what they think. They know they can’t get what they want, so when they feel wronged and emotional, they can only cry.
Hua Xiao and Hua Li, who were following behind, had just gotten closer when they heard their brother crying. They trotted over and rushed towards Hua Shi.
Hua Xiao's expression changed, and like an angry little cowboy, he rushed towards Hua Shi, pushed her back with both hands, and shouted, "Hua Shi! What are you doing! Bullying Xiao Ying again!"
Before Hua Shi could react, Hua Xiao pushed him down and he sat down on the ground.
"Xiaoying, don't cry, I have avenged you!" Hua Xiao said, and used her small body to block the two men and pulled her brother to her.
Xiaoying sobbed twice and shed two tears, but soon calmed down. She probably knew that she would get nothing to eat even if she cried.
She wiped away her tears, broke free from Hua Huaxiao's hand, turned around, squatted on the ground, and picked up bamboo leaves to play with.
Hua Xiao still protected the person behind him like a child, and glared at Hua Shi with an angry face.
The ground was soft and wet, and covered with several layers of bamboo leaves. Hua Shi fell down, but nothing happened. However, she was speechless because of Hua Xiao's conditioned reflex of not knowing right from wrong and picking on her.
"Why didn't you ask clearly before you started? Xiaoying was crying because she couldn't find any bamboo shoots and had nothing to eat. You came up and pushed me. Isn't that too much?"
Hua Shi stood up, his face not looking too good, and said this in a patient tone.
Hua Xiao turned around to look at his brother who was squatting like a mushroom again, then looked at Hua Shi with a gloomy face. He realized that he had wronged someone and took a small step back guiltily.
He stammered, finding it difficult to say sorry.
Hua Li, who was walking slower behind, covered his injured wrist and saw the whole process clearly. He pulled the thin-skinned Hua Xiao and said in a low voice,
"You should apologize to her..."
Hua Xiao bit her lip and said reluctantly to Hua Shi, "I'm sorry, I wronged you!"
Hua Xiao shouted, turned around and said to Hua Li, "Look after Xiaoying", then ran back to the front yard alone.
Hua Shi looked at the awkward little girl, then met Hua Li's gaze and muttered, "I don't eat people, why are you running so fast..."
Seeing Hua Shi looking at him, Hua Li curled his lips and didn't want to pay any attention to her at all, and was sulking in his heart.
Last time, she had asked him to outwit the enemy, meaning that he should secretly teach those who bullied him a lesson. Then he came up with the idea of stealing Li Erhu's sheep and hiding them himself. In the end, he was discovered and even broke his hand...
The more Hua Li thought about it, the more angry she became. She felt extremely embarrassed and humiliated, and naturally didn't want to bother with Hua Shi anymore.
He was secretly angry with himself. The inferiority complex that welled up in his heart made him very frustrated and felt that he was completely useless...
Hua Shi had no idea of Hua Li's little thoughts. She picked a few bamboos that were growing well and cut down several of them neatly.
“Pah, pah…”
The sound of the axe hitting the bamboo was particularly loud in the quiet bamboo forest, startling the birds on the treetops not far away, causing them to fly away.
Hua Li stayed beside his brother, looking up from time to time in the direction of Hua Shi, his eyes subconsciously wide open, with a child's curiosity that could not be hidden on his face.
Hua Shi stopped when he saw that he had almost finished chopping. He had already noticed whether Hua Li was looking at him, so he wiped the sweat from his forehead and walked out of the bamboo forest.
"Why are you looking at me?" Hua Shi asked bluntly.
Hua Li looked away, not daring to meet Hua Shi's gaze, and asked, "Why are you cutting bamboo? You can't eat it."
"I want to make something with bamboo, so I cut some." Hua Shi didn't explain clearly.
Hua Li didn't quite understand what he was saying, so without thinking too much, he asked bluntly, "What are you making? Can you make tables and chairs out of bamboo?"
He had seen people in the village making tables and chairs out of bamboo, and if they were good, they could even sell them for money...
This thought naturally came to his mind.
