"Girl, how much do you sell these dates for?"
After hesitating for a moment, the woman finally asked.
Hua Shi had already thought of the price. When she asked, he quickly replied, "One penny for ten, two pennies for twenty-five, three pennies for forty, and five pennies for seventy."
She quoted a price casually, and the woman frowned after hearing the price.
Ten for one penny, that's a bit expensive. She could buy a pound of coarse rice with that penny...
The girl next to her heard her quote, and her expression seemed to indicate that she wanted to buy it.
Niu'er was a little impatient. She tugged at the corner of her grandmother's clothes and hurriedly explained, "Grandma, please don't sell it. I don't want to eat it! Don't waste your money!"
After hearing what Niu'er said, the woman became more certain that she wanted to eat it, but she was too embarrassed to say it out loud. After hesitating for a moment, she decided to buy it.
"Give me two first and let me see how they taste."
The woman was obviously persuaded. Before Hua Shi could even boast, she hurriedly took two from the basket and handed them over.
The woman took it and stuffed one into the girl's mouth.
The girl was just thinking about how to explain to her grandmother that she really didn't want to eat it when suddenly a mouthful of dates was stuffed into her mouth. She subconsciously caught it with her hand and took a bite.
"Crack." The crisp sound of the fruit flesh being bitten was heard, and the juice inside the dates overflowed from the flesh.
The crisp and sweet taste was indeed her favorite. She didn't know if it was her illusion, but she always felt that the fruit peel was sweet.
The sweet taste is indeed what she likes...
The greedy girl ate the dates in just a few bites. When she came to her senses, she saw her grandmother's smiling face, her face turned red, and she was so embarrassed that she couldn't say a word.
She had just been stubbornly saying she didn't want to eat it, but now she couldn't wait to swallow it down after eating just one...
Niu'er looked at her grandmother's self-absorbed expression, then looked at Huashi who was waiting on the side, and curled her lips in annoyance.
It’s over, grandma is really going to misunderstand me now…
The woman could see that her granddaughter liked to eat it very much, but she just said that she didn't like it. After all, the most important thing was the child's happiness.
"Give me a two-cent piece."
Twenty-five can shut up this little greedy cat.
"Okay." Hua Shi's eyes lit up, and he nodded quickly, counting twenty-five for her quickly.
The woman put them in a bowl, including the one she was about to taste, and put them all into the girl's hand. She looked at the flower and said,
"I'll go back to the house and get the money for you. Wait here, I'll be back in a moment."
Grandma turned and went into the house, leaving Niu'er and Huashi standing under the eaves.
Niu'er was holding the bowl, stunned for a moment, looked back at her grandmother's disappeared back, then raised her head to look at the flowers, and suddenly said angrily,
"Hey, I know you! Stop pretending in front of me!"
The little girl's words made no sense, and Hua Shi was filled with questions.
Niu'er looked at her puzzled expression and snorted, "Your name is Hua Shi, right? You're Hua Xiao's vicious sister, just like those vicious stepmothers in the village. You often bully Hua Xiao, her younger brother, and her second brother. Don't think I don't know! You're so vicious that you even tricked my grandma into buying your...broken dates! Bah!"
The little girl's words completely explained all the questions that Hua Shi had.
This should be Hua Xiao's younger sister, about the same age as Hua Xiao, and she's always calling him vicious...
Thinking of Hua Xiao's sharp tongue, Hua Shi knew without a doubt that it was Hua Xiao who taught her to say that. She touched her nose awkwardly.
She saw that the woman truly loved the little girl. If she knew that her precious granddaughter was instigated by someone, she would speak viciously...
There was a sound of footsteps in the room. The little girl who had been baring her teeth and cursing at Hua Shi just now immediately changed her expression when she heard the sound and returned to her harmless look.
The woman came back with two coins and handed them to Hua Shi, saying, "Take this, don't lose it."
Hua Shi reached out to take it. It was the first order of the day and also the first income.
Although two cents wasn't much, it was at least some income. She was in a good mood and didn't bother to care about the little girl's words...
"Auntie, I'll be leaving first."
She said goodbye and walked out of the yard under Niu'er's angry gaze.
In the yard, one could still faintly hear the conversation between the grandfather and grandson...
"Grandma, I really don't like it. Why did you waste money on this..."
The girl grumbled unhappily.
"I don't know you. You say you don't like it, but you're so happy inside."
"How could I? And do you know who that was just now? You were so nice to her!"
"Grandma is not good to her. I am the best to this little lump."
"Hmph! Anyway, next time you see her, don't smile at her, and better yet, don't talk to her at all!"
"Hey, did that sister make you angry just now?"
"Yes... uh, no... Anyway, she's not a good person..."
…
Walking out of the small alley, the snow falling from the sky seemed to be getting heavier.
Hua Shi took out a date from the basket, took two bites with a crunching sound, and filled her empty stomach.
He covered the basket tightly again, regained his spirits, and walked towards the village road.
The snow kept falling, and the entire village was covered in white snow. Not a single person was in sight...
With the previous successful case, Hua Shi ran to several households in the snow, repeatedly knocking on the doors, trying his best to sell the dates in the basket, but almost every time ended in failure.
