Chapter 22 Come for breakfast

Chapter 22 Come for breakfast

After the six people in the family saw Wu Yuetang send the people away, they rushed forward and asked her all sorts of questions. The general meaning of their question was that the Ye family in Liuwan Village was not easy to deal with and that one should never have anything to do with them.

Seeing several people in her family trying to persuade her earnestly, Wu Yuetang felt helpless.

"It's okay, Ye Jingchen is not from the Ye family, it's okay."

"You little girl, Ye Jingchen is not from the Ye family, then whose family is he from? You are talking nonsense."

Li cursed Wu Yuetang, but she didn't expect her next words to be even more explosive.

"He's not a member of the Ye family. The Ye family is full of top-notch people, how could they raise someone as timid and kind-hearted as him? He's just a child picked up by the Ye family."

Wu Yuetang accidentally revealed the secret and regretted it immediately. She covered her mouth and looked at the surprised eyes around her awkwardly.

It’s over, it’s over, why does my mouth keep saying everything?

Before everyone could react, Wu Yuetang rushed back to his room at extraordinary speed, locked the door, turned around and entered the space.

Speaking of Ye Jingchen, he returned to the Ye family with two hundred coins and four meat buns. The eldest son of the Ye family, Ye Changxing, came over and snatched the bag from his shoulders.

"Why are you so late today? There's no food left for you at home."

It sounded like concern, but in fact she was complaining that Ye Jingchen came back late and she had to leave the door open for him.

Ye Jingchen didn't say anything. After seeing him find money and food in the package, he threw the empty cloth bag back. Ye Jingchen felt a little uncomfortable and frowned slightly.

He knew that he was not welcome in this family, and he always thought that the way other families got along should be similar.

But after visiting Wu Yuetang's home today, I realized that the family atmosphere can be so harmonious.

Ye Jingchen returned to his little room and sat down beside the bed.

Looking at this small space that could only fit a table and a bed, with no place to put an extra cabinet, Ye Jingchen couldn't help but sneer.

"Hahaha, my last name is Ye too."

That night, Ye Jingchen had a dream that he hadn't had in a long time. The dream was about scenes he had never seen before, and it seemed as if he was there himself.

The wind from beyond the Great Wall whistled, carrying sand and gravel, tearing through the night. Ye Jingchen stood at the front of the battle formation, his armor stained with blood, his spear steady as a rock. Behind him stood three thousand elite soldiers, each with a solemn expression. The sound of war drums and the clatter of horse hooves blended into a desolate war song.

The enemy emerged from the darkness, a black hail of arrows pouring down from the sky. Ye Jingchen wielded his spear, splitting the arrows. Behind him, the soldiers formed a square formation on their chariots, the clash of shields like thunder. Knowing the Xiongnu's habit of luring the enemy, he halted the pursuit and sent scouts to survey the terrain. However, the cunning enemy had already ambushed Dayu's army on both sides of the valley, waiting for them to enter a desperate situation before unleashing a barrage of arrows.

Ye Jingchen sensed something was amiss and was about to reverse his formation when a feathered arrow pierced the sand and lodged itself directly in his right shoulder. He groaned, and blood splattered onto the snow, staining it crimson. The soldiers cried out in alarm, only to see Ye Jingchen grit his teeth, pull out the arrow, and casually fling it into the enemy formation, his spearpoint slicing down three Hun knights.

"Don't panic!" he roared, his voice like muffled thunder. "Follow me!" The remaining Dayu troops surged forward like a raging wave, and the enemy army collapsed. In the melee, Ye Jingchen was struck by another arrow, which lodged in his ribs, causing him to faint with the excruciating pain. He stumbled and fell from his horse, and the elite soldiers behind him were unable to catch him, and they watched helplessly as Ye Jingchen plummeted into the valley.

“Save me, save me!!!”

Ye Jingchen woke up in shock and sat up suddenly in bed, his whole body soaked in cold sweat.

He pulled open his shirt and saw an ugly round scar under his collarbone on his right chest.

"Is it a coincidence? This dream is too real."

Ye Jingchen touched the scar and muttered to himself.

I couldn't sleep in the second half of the night until Ye's mother, Li Xiufang, came and knocked on the door.

"Second brother, why haven't you woken up yet? The whole family is waiting for you, please don't delay anything."

A harsh voice sounded at the door. Seeing that she was already up but the second son was still not, Ye Li became furious and started beating and scolding him at the door.

Ye Jingchen opened the door expressionlessly and walked out past Ye Li.

"Second brother! You only made two hundred coins from the game you hunted yesterday. That's too little. Go into the mountains today and hunt more game so you can earn more money. Tomorrow is my birthday, so let's have some meat."

Ye Changxing walked over with a smile, patted Ye Jingchen on the back, and pretended to be a good brother.

"Yes, you can hunt more game today and sell it in town. It's okay if you come back late. Your mother and I will leave the door open for you."

Ye Youcai, the old man of the Ye family, also responded. Ye Jingchen sneered and asked.

"What about dinner? Will you save some for me?"

"If there's enough for dinner, I'll save it for you."

Ye Li hurriedly responded. She didn't want to leave any food for him. He was just a tool in the Ye family, a free laborer. Why should she leave any food for him? As long as he didn't die, it would be fine.

"Really? So there's no breakfast?"

Ye Jingchen walked to the water tank, scooped a bucket of water, washed his face, and looked at Ye Li. The cold eyes scared Ye Li so much that she took two steps back unconsciously.

"Our Ye family has always had one meal a day. We have never had breakfast. How can there be breakfast?"

Ye Li's voice is very loud, just like the louder the voice, the more confident he is.

"Oh, really?"

The sarcasm in Ye Jingchen's voice was barely detectable. His gaze fell on the corner of Ye Chunlan's mouth, the youngest sister of the Ye family, where a few grains of rice were still hanging.

Ye Li followed her gaze and was startled. She quickly took out her handkerchief and wiped the corner of Ye Chunlan's mouth.

When he turned around again, Ye Jingchen was gone.

"What does he mean? Is he trying to slap us?"

Thinking of this, Ye Li immediately became unhappy and decided in her heart that she would teach Ye Jingchen a lesson after he came back tonight. He actually learned to give her the cold shoulder!

Ye Jingchen kept walking aimlessly, and as soon as he closed his eyes he thought of last night's dream.

He now has some doubts. The dream might be true, and perhaps he is not really a member of the Ye family. After all, his memory of the Ye family only dates back four or five years, and he can't remember anything before that.

Unconsciously, he arrived at the door of a farmer's house. Ye Jingchen then realized that this was Wu Yuetang's home. His stomach, which was not hungry at first, began to growl after smelling the fragrance inside.

Finally, the door was knocked and it was Li who came to open the door. After seeing Ye Jingchen, Li was also dumbfounded.

Why is this guy here this morning? What's going on? Looking for Tang'er? That's unlikely. Didn't they just meet yesterday?

Li's mind was full of questions until Wu Zhiyun's voice sounded behind her.

"Why are you here? Are you here to see my little sister?"

Ye Jingchen nodded, and was then pulled into the yard by Wu Zhiyun.

Wu Yuetang was busy in the kitchen. When she turned around to get the seasoning, she saw Ye Jingchen sitting in her yard and was a little confused.

What is this guy doing here so early in the morning?

Then I added a bowl of overnight rice to the pot, added freshly fried eggs, and stir-fried them vigorously.

A few minutes later, the fragrant egg fried rice came out of the pot. Wu Yuetang cut the blanched potato slices into shreds and made some cold potato shreds as a side dish, which was also served on the table.

"Since you're here, I made you an extra portion. Here, try it."

As she spoke, Wu Yuetang pushed a plate of egg fried rice towards Ye Jingchen.

Ye Jingchen's Adam's apple rolled up and down unconsciously. Is this how you can eat rice? It's golden and smells really good.
