Chapter 186 - Irony
"Well, I will also work hard to learn how to grasp the character's changes more accurately."
"Then, let's work hard together." Zhang Yixin smiled brightly at Shi Feiye, and then finally asked the question he wanted to ask, "Ms. Shi, did you start writing novels as soon as you graduated?"
"Not really. I just started writing a while ago."
"So it didn't take long to write? It's really amazing that it's been adapted into a novel so quickly."
"I don't deserve it, I'm just lucky." Shi Feiye didn't really want to talk about himself, so he changed the subject to the other person, "I've seen Mr. Zhang's work before, it's pretty good. Everyone says you work very hard."
"Why are you so polite? Just call me Ah Xin from now on. Can I call you Sister Xiao Ye?"
It was just a name, Shi Feiye didn't care: "Okay."
"Sister Xiaoye, if you haven't been in this industry before, you might not understand clearly that navigating the entertainment industry is very hard. For a traffic star like me, if I don't find time to improve myself, my traffic will be taken away by new stars and I'll become worthless."
Zhang Yixin said this sincerely, and with a hint of joy:
"Many people online still say I'm a sissy and a pretty face, but that's just the persona the company has created for me. I've already negotiated with the company to gradually change my style next year and become a tough guy. That way, I can gradually transform into a talented actor."
This Shi Feiye really understands. Having interacted with celebrities before, she knows the paths they take and the personas they carry. Many of these paths are set by the company, and often they don't want to be that way themselves.
Some celebrities are smart and know to work hard in the direction set by the company first, and then when they have gained a certain level of strength, they will negotiate with the company to change their image, until they become powerful and have a firm foothold.
Some are confused. As traffic stars, they are praised by fans and forget that they have no foundation. In the end, new stars emerge and take away their traffic, and they can only gradually decline.
Others are typically those who lack the necessary abilities. Although they were born with good conditions, they cannot endure hardship or suffering, yet they are too arrogant to admit defeat, and in the end, they end up with nothing. The lucky ones are those who have managed to make some money and have a lifelong support.
Judging from what Zhang Yixin said, he was a knowledgeable, interesting, and intelligent person. However, what he did had nothing to do with her. They had only met yesterday and had exchanged no more than three sentences. Talking too much with someone you had just met was a big taboo.
"I've noticed that your acting in previous dramas is pretty good, and you're a talented actor. You'll only get better and better in the future."
"Thank you for your kind words, Sister Xiaoye." Zhang Yixin leaned a little closer to Shi Feiye, pretending to tell her something in private. "Sister Xiaoye, let me tell you a secret. I've been secretly training my abdominal muscles. I'm sure I'll be able to look like a tough guy when the time comes."
No problem, no problem. Why are you getting so close to her? What's the point of saying such things in front of her? Are you guys that familiar with each other?
Shi Feiye's first reaction wasn't to smile or agree, but to quickly turn around and look around. Zhang Yixin was a popular young idol right now, and she didn't want to be in trouble if someone took a picture of her looking back at her from a weird angle. Brainless fans were always a thing, and she didn't want to cause any trouble.
Looking left and right, front and back, there was nothing. Everyone in the restaurant was eating normally. Shi Feiye realized that she was just an assistant screenwriter now and had no vested interests with Zhang Yixin. He didn't have the time to plot against her, as it wouldn't benefit him.
"Sister Xiaoye, what are you looking at?"
Zhang Yixin's eyes flickered when he saw Shi Feiye's movements. He had no intention of doing anything, but simply took advantage of the fact that there was nothing else to do in the morning and few people around to get closer to Shi Feiye. He hadn't gotten the information he needed to find out yet, so he wouldn't do anything now.
He knew very well what Shi Feiye's actions meant. This was the strange part. How could an assistant screenwriter have such a strong sense of vigilance?
"Nothing, I just feel that there are too few people coming to eat breakfast so early in the morning."
"Oh, that's normal. This hotel is the best here, and it's very confidential. Only a few important people from our crew are staying here, and the rest of the staff are staying in other hotels. Besides, people in this industry are used to staying up late, so if you want to see everyone, you have to have work arrangements that morning."
Shi Feiye knew all of this, she was just making up an excuse: "Oh, that's what I said, then I'll go back and rest for a while."
"Actually, if Sister Xiaoye is interested in this place, I can take you for a walk. There aren't many people in the film and television city this morning."
"No, no, no, you're a big star. It's okay for me to go out alone, but if I go out with you, we might get surrounded and even alert the police. Forget it."
"That's not an exaggeration. In fact, in our line of work, unless we deliberately try to be recognized, we generally won't let anyone see through our identities. We have so many ways to disguise ourselves." Zhang Yixin blinked, looking a bit playful, like a little boy next door, quite adorable.
Unfortunately, Shi Feiye was not interested in celebrities. As long as she didn't want to become a hot topic, she wouldn't get too close to them. "No, since I'm fine, I'll go back and rest. I went to bed late last night."
"It seems that Sister Xiaoye usually goes to bed early. She is much more fortunate than us. We have to stay up late at all times, sometimes not sleeping for two or three days in a row. I see that Sister Xiaoye's skin is in such good condition. She must have a regular sleep and rest schedule, right?"
"It's okay, that's about it. If I have inspiration, I'll go to bed late. If not, I'll just go to bed normally."
Shi Feiye didn't fully realize Zhang Yixin's inquiries into her, but she was used to being wary of everyone, so she tried not to reveal any personal information during conversations, even about her lifestyle.
Based on this, the two chatted for a while, the topic going back and forth until Shi Feiye finished his meal and said goodbye to Zhang Yixin and left.
Zhang Yixin looked at Shi Feiye's departing back and had an indescribable feeling in his heart. This Miss Shi was really very tight-lipped. The two of them talked for such a long time, but he didn't hear a single useful word. If this didn't prove that her background was unusual, then how else could it be explained?
At her age, she's never been on a film crew or in the entertainment industry, yet she's so familiar with the industry and crew. Unless someone has told her about it, I wonder if it was a friend who warned her beforehand, or if her family revealed the rules in advance.
After returning to his room, Zhang Yixin called his agent and asked, "Have you found out anything about Miss Shi?"
"No, we found nothing. That's the strangest thing. No matter what you think, the fact that we can't find out anything speaks volumes. You'd better not have anything to do with them. Just be friendly on the surface. Don't do anything extreme. Don't let your lower body ruin your life."
On the other end of the phone, the agent was a mature woman, and her voice was filled with warning:
"Also, don't forget your position. Mr. Jiang has been in a bad mood lately, so you'd better behave yourself. If you're ready to care, try to appease him. Don't anger him, or you'll be the one who suffers in the end. Do you think Mr. Jiang doesn't know what you did before? He's just doting on you, and he only cares when you get angry with him. If you keep acting cold and reserved, there will be more than one or two young men trying to get close to him."
Hearing the words "Mr. Jiang," Zhang Yixin smiled sarcastically, but his voice was gentle. "Mr. Jiang is angry with me, how dare I get close to him? But I know what I'm doing, and I'll get in touch if I need to. Sister Feng, I know you care about me, so don't worry, I won't joke about my future."
"Alas, I know you're unhappy, but who hasn't suffered injustice in this world? It's great to be rewarded for the injustice you've suffered. There are many people who suffer in vain, and their lives are even more frustrating and difficult. So, don't be too harsh when you can seize the opportunity."
"How could I not understand this? But I have nothing to begin with. If I don't even have a little dignity, then I'm really worthless. Sister Feng, you know this."
"Of course I know that, but you have to control the timing and not let your temper turn into ingratitude. After all, you don't have any leverage to be ingratitude."
Zhang Yixin's face darkened for a moment, but he still smiled and said, "Don't worry, Sister Feng. I know I'm very satisfied with my current situation and will naturally cherish it. I know in my heart how good Mr. Jiang is to me."
"That's good. Don't provoke people you shouldn't provoke. Otherwise, if something unexpected happens, no one will be able to protect you." Sister Feng finally reminded:
"I've lived for so many years and seen a lot in this industry, but I've never seen a businessman do business that would lose money, let alone offend someone they shouldn't offend just for a momentary interest. In the eyes of a skilled businessman, only profit and money will never betray them. Emotions and other things are nothing but clouds."
"I know. Thanks for the reminder, Sister Feng."
"Then you go ahead and do your thing. I'm hanging up."
After the call ended, Zhang Yixin held the phone, the sarcastic smile on his face growing bigger and bigger, until he even laughed loudly. He suddenly stopped talking, still in a sarcastic tone:
"What's the point of provoking or not? If it's something we both agree on, then there's no point in provoking."
Shi Feiye was a rare person he was truly interested in, not one of those people he'd gotten involved with simply out of a grudge. Since he was interested, he certainly couldn't just let her go. If she truly showed no interest in him in the end, then he'd let it go. Otherwise, as long as she showed even the slightest bit of interest, he wouldn't let her go. As for the others, well, he didn't believe anyone could do anything to him.
