Chapter 185 - Reporting Safety
Shi Feiye thought something was wrong with Qin Bulu, so he quickly picked up the phone: "Hello, what's wrong?"
As soon as these words came out, Qin Buzhu paused, as if he couldn't call her for no reason. He restrained his tone and said, "How are you settling in? Have you met the crew?"
Ever since she arrived there and sent him a message saying "I'm here", there has been no news until now. Seeing that it was already ten o'clock and there was still no movement, Qin Buzhu finally couldn't bear it anymore.
He had lunch at the company, having Shi Leng pack a box for him to bring to the office. He then had a quick dinner outside. When he got home, Qian Bowen asked him something, and they chatted for over an hour. He talked about a lot more, and when he hung up and finished his business, he turned around and saw darkness at the door.
Only then did he remember that there was no one else at home except him, which was why the bedroom door was not closed. He was the only one there and there was no movement, so why was there any need to close the door?
The health pot in the living room is empty, the computer I usually use isn't on the coffee table, and the clacking typing sounds I used to ignore are gone. For some reason, the whole house feels empty, and it's a terrible feeling.
In fact, it shouldn't be like this. Whether he was in school or working later, he had always been alone. When he lived in the villa before, although there were three maids in the huge house, they usually didn't bother him quietly, as if they didn't exist, and he didn't think there was anything wrong.
It's only been a few months, and yet it's become uncomfortable.
But the discomfort was real. After returning to his seat, he couldn't calm his mind. He picked up his phone and checked it again and again, but there were only those three words, not a single extra punctuation mark. Half an hour had passed before he finally gave up the inexplicable struggle with himself and made the call.
"Everything's settled in. The crew had dinner together that evening. Everyone seemed pretty good. I couldn't tell much more, but Director Wang is a kind person. He even went out of his way to introduce me to everyone, probably because I'm the original author."
Shi Feiye sat on the soft sofa in the hotel, boredly looking at the film and television studio that was faintly visible in the darkness not far away:
"How about you? The game will be released soon. Is everything going well?"
"Everything goes well. Remember to call me every morning and evening. Be careful when you go out." Qin Bulu said his request without hesitation.
This surprised Shi Feiye. She had been alone ever since her parents passed away, and she had also been alone since she joined the crew in her previous life. It had been a long time since anyone had asked her to report safety.
But then she thought, after all, she was still the man's wife. According to common sense, they should be the closest people in the world. Although they were not a real couple now, they were still friends. If she was to flatter herself, calling them family would barely qualify. It was normal for the man to be worried about her going out alone.
"Okay, I'll remember to let you know I'm safe."
Shi Feiye didn't think Qin Bulu would stare at her every day. With the holographic online game coming out these days, he might be very busy. But since he showed that he cared about her, she would remember his kindness.
She wanted to say something more but she didn't know where to start. Shi Feiye wanted to hang up the phone. However, she didn't expect that someone on the other end of the phone would say, "Why, you want to hang up on me?"
Having said that, how could she hang up? "No, I was thinking of telling you something."
"Director Wang and the others are not that bad as great directors. They can't compare to an assistant screenwriter like you. You just need to be more careful when interacting with others."
Shi Feiye didn't expect Qin Bulu to become so talkative:
"These are all minor matters, and with your abilities you should be able to handle them. I heard that Hai, the screenwriter, is a man of good character and reputation. If you can be diligent when you have time, your career will be much easier if you can get his support. I heard he likes poetry, so you can reflect on it when you have time."
He didn't mention taking care of her, nor did he ask if she needed him to do anything, nor did he discuss anything else with her. Instead, he mentioned the preferences of screenwriter Hai. The boss didn't doubt her ability to handle things, but instead revealed some very useful gossip to her, which made her feel very comfortable. She didn't like others doubting her abilities, especially from outsiders.
Understanding the preferences of those above her is only beneficial for a novice. This is truly for her own good. Shi Feiye still feels a little grateful: "Yeah, I remember."
The conversation then turned to Qin Buzhu's subtle suggestions on how to do things better. These weren't just basic interpersonal relationships, but rather the higher-level questions of how to infiltrate the inner circle. Shi Feiye knew he must have put a lot of effort into obtaining this information, so her gratitude turned into touching.
They chatted for half an hour, and when they hung up, Shi Feiye felt a warm feeling in her heart. No matter what the relationship was, someone cared about you so much, thought about you, respected you, and didn't question your abilities. This was a blessing. The boss was really good to her.
The next morning, Shi Feiye woke up early, sent Qin Buzhu a good morning message, and went downstairs to eat. Qin Buzhu, as was his habit, woke up early when he heard the notification tone and picked up the phone. His expression, which had been expressionless, softened as he typed, "Good morning, good luck with work."
Shi Feiye came to the second floor of the hotel, which was where they had their meals. There were many different kinds of breakfast, all included in the price, so they could eat as much as they wanted without having to pay for anything else.
She picked out some steamed buns, eggs, and millet porridge, and also picked up some side dishes to make sure she could finish them before heading towards the dining table.
After picking an empty table and putting down the tray, Shi Feiye took out all the food and put it away before preparing to start eating.
She's quite particular about food. Her mother always told her that life is all about food and clothing, so she doesn't need to pursue designer brands. She just needs to buy what's comfortable within her means, even if it doesn't look great on her. As for food, even if it's just plain porridge and small dishes, she should enjoy it with care.
If it weren't for this, Qin Bulu wouldn't have accepted the meal she cooked so quickly. Even if he wasn't particular, he wouldn't have eaten something so unpresentable. After all, he had been raised in luxury. He might have endured it when he wasn't capable, but he would definitely not have tolerated it if he had a little bit of ability.
However, after taking a few bites, a figure appeared beside her. Shi Feiye swallowed the food in her mouth and looked up. It was Zhang Yixin. When he saw her looking up, he smiled at her:
"Ms. Shi, good morning. Is there anyone sitting opposite you?"
Is this even necessary? She was just being polite. She wondered what was going on when there were so many empty seats, why didn't she sit here instead? Or was she simply trying to build a relationship? But what was she worth? She was just an assistant screenwriter.
Not knowing the other party's intention, Shi Feiye replied: "No."
"Can I sit here?"
The position is not hers, so is there anything she can say without anyone saying an offensive "can't"?
"Of course, I didn't expect you to get up so early."
Zhang Yixin sat down and said, "When I thought about how good the script was this time, I was so excited that I couldn't sleep. I just got up to have breakfast. I didn't expect Miss Shi to get up so early too. What a coincidence."
The compliment was so skillful that Shi Feiye smiled in his heart, but he did not take it personally:
"Yeah, how could the script written by Screenwriter Hai be bad? I'm also happy, thinking that I might be able to learn a lot from Screenwriter Hai this time. This opportunity is really rare."
"That must be because your novel is so well written. When Director Wang invited me, I was so interested that I immediately read the novel. At that time, I thought that the author of such a good novel must be an older man or woman, but I didn't expect it to be a young lady like Miss Shi who is both talented and beautiful."
Zhang Yixin winked at Shi Feiye and said, "Miss, I have some questions about the role. Can I ask you?"
It turned out to be about the role, so Shi Feiye certainly wouldn't refuse: "Of course, but screenwriter Hai has a very accurate grasp of the character's personality and life trajectory. I can only give you suggestions, which may not be accurate. You can just refer to them, but still follow screenwriter Hai's standards."
"I just felt that the part about the hero's failure was a bit too exaggerated, especially the part where he was begging on the street. Wasn't it a bit too much? After all, he was a prince. How could he lose face like that?"
Shi Feiye's perception of Zhang Yixin improved a bit. She felt that actors who could seriously study their roles were good. The part where the male lead begged did seem a bit exaggerated, but it was necessary, so she explained to Zhang Yixin:
"This part is actually very necessary. The hero was born a prince. Although he has been fighting with his brothers and seems to have a very hard time, he doesn't particularly understand the people's sentiments. It is this experience of falling to the bottom after failure that makes him truly understand the difficulties faced by the people."
Seeing that Zhang Yixin was listening attentively, Shi Feiye continued:
"Only by understanding the hardships of life and witnessing the good and evil in the hearts of the lowest classes can one broaden his horizons, realize how shallow he was in the past, and truly grow. It's also because of this that he deeply appreciates the heroine's kindness and develops a sense of empathy, which ultimately prevents the heroine from killing him, and allows the two of them to support each other and continue on. After all, in this world, what truly touches people's hearts is great love for the world."
Zhang Yixin nodded. He knew this little bit, but he was just looking for an excuse to talk to Shi Feiye:
"Now that you put it that way, I understand. It seems this part is really difficult to act. It's quite troublesome to grasp the emotions. However, I will do my best and not let such a good story go to waste."
