Chapter 37 The Secret in the Diary

Cheng Yuesheng didn't have any special requirements for renting a house. As long as the furniture and appliances were complete and he could move in with just his luggage, that was enough.

But Qin Heque didn't think so. He felt that since he was going to rent the house to Cheng Yuesheng, he must make sure she lived comfortably.

He asked the soft furnishing designer to make several plans and sent them to Cheng Yuesheng.

Cheng Yuesheng could only accept his kindness and chose the French-style soft furnishings that she had loved in her previous life but had never had the chance to try. However, some items needed to be customized, and the house needed to be repainted, so Cheng Yuesheng had to wait for some time for the smell to dissipate before she could move in.

This went against Qin Heque's original intention of asking her to move as soon as possible, but Qin Heque assured her that the Cheng family should not have time to cause trouble for her recently.

Is it because of financial reasons or problems within the company?

Cheng Yuesheng didn't think much about it. Since Qin Heque said so, she believed him.

She began packing up her things in the apartment, packing a little each day, and sometimes even taking time to go to the milk tea shop.

She also cleaned out the clothes in the original owner's closet, took photos of the ones she didn't wear, and put them on a second-hand platform to sell. Unexpectedly, because most of the original owner's clothes were brand names and well-preserved, they actually sold quite well, which made Cheng Yuesheng's wallet quite rich.

The original Cheng Yuesheng lived here for almost four years, and she had quite a lot of things. She had to carefully check whether some of the things were useful or had special meaning to the original owner before deciding whether to keep them or not. It was quite time-consuming.

That day, Cheng Yuesheng began to clean up the original owner's study. She wanted to pack up the books inside.

It turned out that Cheng Yuesheng had a lot of books, covering all kinds of genres. Some of the books even had her notes on them, and it was obvious that she had read them all.

The largest proportion of them were books on psychotherapy. Cheng Yuesheng was shocked when she saw them for the first time. She thought the original owner had depression, but she did not find any antidepressant drugs, and there was no trace of it in the mobile phone. She thought this might be the original owner's hobby.

Cheng Yuesheng packed the books into cardboard boxes one by one. There were so many books that it was difficult for her to move them, but it was not time to move yet, so she could pack them up bit by bit.

She had just moved a stack of books when she discovered a beige notebook lying horizontally against the back of the bookshelf. It had been completely invisible from the front before the books were moved; it seemed as if the notebook had been deliberately hidden there.

Cheng Yuesheng had a hunch that this notebook was closely related to the original owner.

She picked up the notebook and found that it was not originally beige. It must have become like this over time. The cover of the notebook was a cute cartoon pattern, the kind that eleven or twelve-year-old girls liked.

She opened the cover and found the original owner's diary from more than ten years ago.

Weather on XX/XX/XX: Cloudy

There was going to be a parent-teacher meeting, and the teacher asked us to bring the notice to the parents. I told Mom and Dad that there was going to be a parent-teacher meeting, but Dad said he had to go to work and asked Mom to go. Mom said that my sister was going to take the high school entrance exam, so she had to go to the parent-teacher meeting for her first, and then come to my class when she had time.

But she didn't even show up after the parent-teacher meeting.

Weather on XX/XX/XX: Light rain

I had my period, my stomach hurt and I bled a lot, so my deskmate told the head teacher.

The head teacher quietly took me to the toilet, taught me how to use sanitary napkins, and told me not to be afraid. She said it was normal and every girl would have her period, which meant that my body was growing.

She told me to go home and tell my mom to make some brown sugar water, which would make the pain go away. She also told me to apply a hot water bottle to the pain, which would make it feel better. Only then did I understand why my deskmate sometimes used a hot water bottle and drank brown sugar water.

I told my mother, but she just said "oh" and ignored me.

I didn't get any brown sugar water, nor did I have a hot water bottle.

Today, I went to an interest class with my sister. She had piano lessons, and I had art classes. I drew a picture, and the teacher said it was beautiful and talented, and asked Mom and Dad to take me to find a better teacher.

I told my dad when I got home, and he said he would discuss it with my mom.

I just went out to drink water and heard them arguing about this matter. Mom said why they should spend so much money on a little girl like Cheng Yuesheng.

My father and her started arguing. I didn't dare to eavesdrop and quietly went back to my room.

Is my family out of money? I don’t want to learn painting anymore. I will tell my dad tomorrow that I don’t want to learn it anymore.

Weather on XX/XX/XX: Rain

Today, some relatives from my father's side came to visit. He said that my sister and I have grown up and look more and more like our parents.

But he said I don’t look like my mother, but more like my aunt. I was very surprised because I don’t have an aunt.

I saw my mother glaring at my father with a fierce look.

Mom and Dad had another fight in the evening, and Mom scolded Dad for going out to look for wild flowers.

Why can’t we find wild flowers? Wild flowers are beautiful too.

Weather on XX/XX/XX: Heavy rain

It turns out that I am not my parents’ daughter.

But I look a bit like my father. Am I his illegitimate daughter?

Weather on XX/XX/XX: Heavy rain

I seem to have a fever, but I don’t want to take medicine or go to the hospital.

Weather on XX/XX/XX: Heavy rain

I was still hospitalized. When I woke up, my head teacher told me that I had fainted during class.

Mom and Dad didn’t come.

Maybe it’s because I’m an illegitimate child.

I really want to ask my father why I am an illegitimate child?

Weather on XX/XX/XX: Heavy rain

Today is my sister’s birthday party. My father picked me up from the hospital and said that the family should be together.

But my mother and sister don’t like me because I am an illegitimate child and not a member of their family.

So I hid.

After the party, they forgot me in the hotel. I cried and asked the hotel manager to call my father, who asked his assistant uncle to take me back to the hospital.

Weather on XX/XX/XX: Heavy rain

An illegitimate daughter should not disturb the happiness of another family.

After reading the contents of the diary, Cheng Yuesheng felt as if his heart was being gripped by an invisible hand.

She didn't expect that the original owner would be the illegitimate daughter of the Cheng family. She couldn't imagine how much of a blow it would be for the original owner to know the truth that she was an illegitimate daughter at such a young age.

Now she really suspects that the original Cheng Yuesheng has a mental illness, but she has been trying to save herself, so she has read a lot of psychology books.

No wonder she is not close to the Cheng family. The Cheng family only regards her as a tool for marriage. Father Cheng only uses her, Cheng Siyue's attitude towards her is indifferent, and Mother Cheng has never given her a good face.

Cheng Yuesheng put away the notebook with a complicated expression.

Her head was dizzy and she needed to sort out her thoughts again.

She couldn't feel guilty towards the Cheng family because of the original owner's identity. If it was the original owner, she would definitely be willing to marry. But they were not the same person, and she would not sacrifice her life for others.
