Chapter 17: Trouble
In the study, Chen Long and Chen Hu were each holding a piece of human skin with a flying bird tattoo and looking at it carefully.
"Someone in Moyun City actually dared to assassinate you, my master. You must be tired of living." Chen Hu looked around but couldn't figure out what he was doing. He said in a rough voice, "I think they must be sent by the capital! Is the old emperor testing you?"
The General Guarding the Nation has made greater achievements than his master and has a large army under his command. His reputation in the north is far greater than that of the old emperor. The people only know that the General Guarding the Nation is their god of war and that the Rongguo Mansion will protect them from being bullied by foreign races. They have no idea about the distant Central Plains court and do not care who sits on the dragon throne.
All the prefectures, counties and districts in the north have always been dependent on the Duke's Mansion for their survival. Chen Ting has the support of hundreds of people here, so it would be easy for them to rebel.
Although he never made any unusual moves, and fought wherever his superiors ordered him to, and went home to rest after the battle, and never went anywhere else, and every time he returned to the capital to report on his work, he would come alone and talk to no one, and except to receive rewards, he would never stay in the capital for another day - he inevitably became a thorn in the side of Emperor Xian of Zhou.
The old emperor had long been eager to get rid of him as soon as possible, but the surrounding small countries were eyeing the territory of the Great Zhou covetously, and they would harass and invade it every now and then. Among them, the brave and warlike Hu people on the grassland and the naturally strong and healthy northern barbarians were the most difficult to deal with, and there was no other general in the court who could replace Chen Ting.
Therefore, when a war was needed, the old emperor would be honest for a while. Every time he saw the general guarding the country, he would smile like a kind old man. But as soon as the surrounding area was stable, he would start to make trouble. He wanted to take back the military power but was afraid of invasion by small countries around him. He let Chen Ting win one victory after another. His reputation in the north became more and more prominent, but he felt uncomfortable all over.
Therefore, sending a few assassins to cause trouble for him...is not impossible.
After hearing what his brother said, Chen Long stroked his chin thoughtfully: "The emperor has already humiliated the general by granting him such a marriage. Is it a bit too much to send an assassin? I don't think it's sent by the emperor."
"But there is indeed no family in Moyun City that raises such assassins, and this Feiyan is not the symbol of any underworld organization. I feel that she looks familiar, but I can't remember where she is. General, give me three days, and I will definitely find out the result."
Chen Ting nodded: "You go and handle this matter, and..."
A hint of gloom flashed across his dark eyes. "You're right. I'm out there protecting his kingdom with my head hanging on my belt. The old man is getting too greedy. If I don't do something, some people will really think I'm a coward."
"Chen Hu."
"I'm here!"
"Teach them a lesson and do it cleanly." Chen Ting said lightly.
"Yes, sir!"
The two brothers took the order and left. Chen Ting stared at the human skin tattoos on the table for a while, a trace of contemplation flashed in his eyes, and finally ordered the cold-faced guard at the door of the study: "Fuyao, deal with these."
"Yes, Master."

Inside the Furong Restaurant, a young man in white clothes holding a fan was leaning against the window, looking at the hustle and bustle of the streets outside the building. In addition to the Han people with yellow skin and black hair, there were also some blond-skinned and blue-eyed foreign vendors, speaking the poor Da Zhou official language and hawking their wares - bleating lambs or calves chewing grass, as well as some strange and unusual things that were not often seen in the Da Zhou.
The young man had a smile on his face, looking quite unrestrained and dashing. He watched with interest for a while, then turned around and called the man who was lying in a drunken stupor among the beauties behind him: "Ziliang, come and take a look. It's really interesting. The border battle is in full swing, and there are actually quite a few peddlers and hawkers in Moyun City who are Hu people... Who told me before I came here that the state capital in the north is full of uncivilized country people? The level of prosperity here is clearly even greater than that of the capital."
The young man called Ziliang stumbled and climbed up, grabbing the wine jug. The beauty next to him hurriedly supported him carefully, but was pushed away.
This man also had a handsome young face. His royal blue brocade robe was crumpled into a loose shape, exposing the fair skin on his chest. His black hair was tied up with a hollow purple gold crown. Even though his face was flushed from drunkenness, he still had a bit of charm.
Gu Ziliang walked to the window with unsteady steps, stared out the window for a moment with drunken eyes, and snorted coldly: "No matter how much she pretends, it's still a poor and remote place... She would rather come to such a shabby place than trust me and let me take her away."
He felt really bad, covering his face and wanting to cry, but he didn't want to cry out loud for the sake of face. He angrily told the beauties to get out, and then he slid down against the wall, muttering, "She's already married... I'm a step late, Mingyi, tell me, what should I do now?"
The young man in white stopped fanning himself and leaned down to look at him: "My Lord, are you really crying?"
He didn't quite understand: "There are so many beauties in the world, you can't get anything you want, why bother with this one?"
Gu Ziliang said, "You know nothing. Nian Nian and I were childhood sweethearts. We agreed on this when we were young...but why is it like this now?"
Ji Mingyi advised him: "If it was an ordinary person, it would be easy to deal with, but do you know who your childhood sweetheart married? She is so bold and she married a general who guards the country. Do you want to snatch her from this lunatic? On his territory?"
"So what if it's Chen Ting!" Gu Ziliang's face was full of anger, and he growled: "No one can take my Nian Nian away!!"
"......" Ji Mingyi wanted to scold him: "If you like her so much, why didn't you marry her in the first place? You ignored your mother's advice and took a concubine. Which good girl would agree to take a concubine before the wife entered the house? Now everything is a foregone conclusion. I don't recommend you to do anything except cherish her memory."
Gu Ziliang touched his face and said dejectedly, "I was bewildered at that time. I thought that Nian Nian would be my wife in the future and I should be generous and virtuous. It was too ignorant for a concubine to make trouble with me."
"I thought she was destined to be mine...but the emperor acted so suddenly. From the time I received the news to the time the Yongning Marquis's mansion was raided, it took less than three days. I had no time to make any arrangements."
"I never thought that the Xiahou family would actually push her out to marry Chen Ting! They all deserve to die!" There was a hint of cruelty in Gu Ziliang's eyes.
Seeing him like this, Ji Mingyi suddenly had a bad feeling in his heart: "You haven't done anything yet? Have you taken revenge on Chen Ting?"
Gu Ziliang sneered: "I came out in a hurry, and I didn't bring many people with me, but they are all top masters in the mansion."
"You are so confused!" Ji Mingyi was horrified, and wanted to immediately cut off ties with this idiot: "Do you think this is the capital, and that Prince Bao will protect you no matter what you do? How dare you assassinate Chen Ting??"
"Go, go, go, you have to leave now and go back to Beijing!" He called two people to hold Gu Ziliang up and said, "My Lord, I still want to continue my small business. It's fine if you get yourself into trouble, but don't bring that lunatic here. I can't afford to entertain him."
