Chapter 8: Finding a Fiancé

Yu Tanqi waited for Jiang Xuan in the restaurant's private room a quarter of an hour in advance.

After waiting for only an incense stick, Jiang Xuan went to the appointment with her personal maid.

The girl was dressed in a turquoise dress, with an elegant temperament. She looked at her with a smile and said, "I'm late, please don't blame me, Sister Tan Qi."

Yu Tanqi stood up and smiled, "No, I came too early."

After some greetings, the two sat down facing each other.

Jiang Xuan asked softly, "I wonder why Sister Tan Qi specifically asked me out today?"

Yu Tanqi had already prepared a speech in her mind. She whispered softly, "I specifically asked Sister Xuan to come out for a private meeting today. I wanted to tell you some girlish private things. Sister Xuan, you like Brother Chi Li, right?"

Yu Tanqi blushed a little at calling someone "brother" in such a coquettish way, but still said it out loud.

After all, they are all of the same age, and they call each other brothers and sisters according to their age. She just treats it as calling relatives.

Jiang Xuan's thoughts were exposed by Yu Tanqi. Her face turned pale for a moment, then she narrowed her eyes slightly, smiled, and said generously: "Yes, I do like cousin Chi Li. Is this what sister Tanqi came to me to talk about today?"

The corners of Jiang Xuan's lips curled up, but a hint of sarcasm flashed across her eyes.

Did Yu Tanqi want to show off to her that Chi Li liked her?

Yu Tanqi had been watching her the entire time, not missing any of her subtle changes in expression. His heart tightened as he said, "It's not just this."

She lowered her eyes and head slightly, revealing a section of her snow-white, slender neck. She looked a little shy. "I'm about to leave Chen County. I wanted to hear good news about you and Chi Li before I leave."

Jiang Xuan was surprised: "You are leaving Chenjun and going back to the Yu family?"

"No." Yu Tanqi shook her head gently, "I'm going to the capital to find my fiancé."

Jiang Xuan was incredulous: "Going to the capital to find your fiancé? Are you kidding me? Why would you go to the capital to find your fiancé? You haven't gotten married yet, and you don't have any relatives in the capital. Even if you go, you can't stay for too long, right?"

She thought of Chi Li almost instantly, and thought that Yu Tanqi's words about looking for a fiancé were an excuse, and she was afraid that she said that because she wanted to go to the capital with Chi Li.

Although Yu Tanqi had never responded to Chi Li's feelings in the past, Jiang Xuan knew that Chi Li liked Yu Tanqi, so how could she be at ease about the possibility of them being alone together?

She clenched her handkerchief, trying to suppress the anger and indifference in her heart.

Yu Tanqi didn't know Jiang Xuan was suspicious, and she thought of her and Chi Li together. She whispered, "Although I don't have any relatives in the capital, the Marquis of Wu'an is my fiancé, and I can live in his house. I have never met him, so we should meet now to cultivate our relationship so that we can live in harmony after marriage."

The girl blushed slightly. It was not easy for her to say such words since she was introverted by nature. Her soft black hair showed a lovely shyness.

Jiang Xuan stared at her closely. Even though she had never seen her so shy before, she still couldn't believe it.

Although she had never met the Prince of Wu'an, she had heard of his reputation.

Although Jiang Shi, the son of Marquis Wu'an, was born with a handsome appearance and an upright figure, his parents had both passed away and he was the only one in the huge marquisate. He grew up taking medicinal soups and it was obvious that he would not live long.

It is also hard to say whether Jiang Shi can survive to inherit the title.

How could such a person compare to her cousin who was so talented and handsome?

Jiang Xuan frowned and said earnestly, "Although the Wu'an Marquis's son is of noble status, you, sister Tan Qi, are also a pampered noblewoman. The Wu'an Marquis's mansion now only has the son. If you really marry him, your future life may not be smooth. For a woman, marriage is like a second reincarnation. Sister Tan Qi, you must consider this carefully."

It sounded like she was considering Yu Tanqi's side and advised her to think it over carefully, but she stared at Yu Tanqi closely, trying to make sure whether she really wanted to marry the Prince of Wu'an.

Yu Tanqi said seriously and firmly, "I was betrothed to the Marquis of Wu'an since childhood. Before my mother passed away, she held my hand and told me to fulfill the engagement and not to be a traitor. No matter what the situation is like in the Marquis of Wu'an's mansion now, I am determined that the Marquis of Wu'an is my fiancé."

Seeing her determined expression, which didn't seem fake, Jiang Xuan breathed a sigh of relief and sighed, "Sister Tan Qi is so loyal and righteous, and I really admire you for keeping your promise. But I'm wondering when you plan to go to the capital? Do Madam Xie and Old Madam Xie agree?"

"Even if they disagree, I'll still insist on going. After all, my last name is Yu, and my mother has already decided on my marriage, so they can't stop me."

This usually weak girl showed rare firmness and determination in her words and expression.

Jiang Xuan had no idea when Yu Tanqi became so serious and determined about the Prince of Wu'an. Although she had said in the past that she had a fiancé, she rarely mentioned the Prince of Wu'an and had never done anything for him.

How come after waking up from nearly drowning, she suddenly made such a decision and was even willing to reject the Xie family's intention to keep her in Chen County for the sake of the Prince of Wu'an?

Jiang Xuan suddenly felt that she couldn't see through the girl in front of her.

She remembered that Yu Tanqi used to be a person with a soft personality that could be seen at a glance. He always spoke and acted gently, unwilling to embarrass others, but he was also someone who could manage things.

Yu Tanqi is too kind and easily deceived, but she doesn't like to go out, so it's not easy to do anything to her.

Jiang Xuan didn't believe that Yu Tanqi would fall deeply in love with a fiancé whom she had never met.

She would rather believe that Yu Tanqi wanted to follow Chi Li to the capital.

After all, if Chi Li made it into the top three, he would most likely stay in the capital and work as an official, and his future would be promising.

No matter how noble the title of Marquis of Wu'an was, it was only in name. After Chi Li entered the court as an official, he would surely be promoted to Prime Minister, which made him much more outstanding than the unknown Marquis of Wu'an.

Thinking of this, Jiang Xuan looked at Yu Tanqi with an uncontrollable gloomy look in her eyes.

The Jiang family is different from the Xie family. Jiang Xuan is the eldest daughter in the family and has more than a dozen illegitimate brothers and sisters. She has seen her father bring concubines to the backyard and the methods used by the concubines and sisters to compete for favor.

Growing up in such a complicated environment as the Jiang family, Jiang Xuan is very scheming and knows that if she wants something, she must fight for it.

She looked at Yu Tanqi, who lowered her head in a weak posture. Her eyes fell on the girl's snow-white, slender neck. Her hands clenched slightly under her sleeves, and she suddenly said, "Sister Tanqi, when are you planning to go to the capital?"

Yu Tanqi said, "If it's quick, we can leave this month."

She really didn't want to stay in Chenjun any longer. She always felt that the person who wanted to kill her would not let her go easily.

"Why are you in such a hurry? I was in a hurry to go out today and didn't bring anything with me. Sister Tan Qi, can you accompany me to the jewelry store to pick out some jewelry?"

"good."

The two of them stood up and walked towards the stairs with their respective maids.

Jiang Xuan fell behind, staring at Yu Tanqi's back with a gloomy look.

The private room is on the second floor of the restaurant. The stairs are very high, with more than a dozen steps.

If you accidentally roll down, you will either die or be injured.

Jiang Xuan slowly stretched out her hands.
