Chapter 5 Buying Sheep

Moonlight shone into the house through the window, and the twins were sleeping soundly.

The two sisters lay on the bed and neither of them spoke again.

After a long while, Song Erya choked up and said, "Sister, will we no longer have parents in the future?"

Song Yuehua turned around and saw Erya's eyes filled with tears.

Dad and mom?

Song Yuehua is an orphan and she has no parents.

But now it’s different, she is not only Song Yuehua, she is also Song Daya.

"Arya, I will take good care of you. Although there are only four of us in this family, from now on, I will make sure everyone has enough food and clothes."

Song Erya wiped her tears and said hurriedly, "Sister, I will take good care of Dabao and Xiaobao."

"Dabao Xiaobao?"

Song Erya hummed and said, "Before my younger brother and sister were born, mother called them this."

Song Yuehua was stunned. The twins had just been born and no one in the Song family cared about them, so naturally they had not been named yet.

Nicknames like Dabao and Xiaobao are fine, but it’s time to choose a formal name.

Song Yuehua thought for a while before saying, "My brother's full name is Song Qingzhou, and his nickname is Dabao. My sister's full name is Song Yunshang, and her nickname is Xiaobao. Erya, what do you think?"

“It sounds good.”

Song Erya twisted and turned for a while before she said, "Sister, can you also help me pick a name..."

"Of course." Song Yuehua said with a smile.

Da Ya and Er Ya are not serious names.

Give yourself a new name and start a new chapter in your life.

After thinking for a moment, Song Yuehua said, "Yuxuan, my full name is Song Yuxuan, and my nickname is Xiaoyu. Do you like it?"

"Uh-huh!"

Xiaoyu nodded vigorously and said happily, "Song Yuxuan, it sounds great!"

"Song Yuxuan."

"I am here!"

"Xiaoyu."

"I'm still here!"

The two sisters chatted with each other for a while, and Xiaoyu suddenly thought of something and asked, "Sister, don't you want to give yourself a name?"

"Song Yuehua, this is my name." Song Yuehua said slowly.

Xiaoyu called out softly, "Song Yuehua..."

Song Yuehua's mind was shocked, and this moment seemed like a lifetime ago.

After being tired all day, the two sisters talked for a few words and fell asleep quickly.

Early the next morning, Song Yuehua found Granny Wang, who lived alone nearby, gave her ten cents and asked her to help take care of Dabao and Xiaobao at home.

I have to go to the county town today. There are so many things missing at home, especially food for the twins. Rice soup alone is definitely not enough.

If you can't buy milk, see if you can find a milk-producing ewe and buy something else at the same time.

A round trip by oxcart costs two cents.

While sitting on the ox cart, the villagers traveling with them couldn't help but look at Song Yuehua a few more times.

The fact that the Song family was splitting up was known to everyone in the village, and most people felt pity for Song Daya and her three siblings.

Song Daya was only ten years old, but she dared to live separately with her three younger siblings. Everyone could only sigh and say that the suffering was yet to come.

Song Yuehua lowered her head and said nothing. When they arrived at the county town, the ox cart stopped at the entrance of the market.

After getting off the bus, there were small carts and vendors on both sides of the road, selling all kinds of goods and food, and the sound of people shouting was endless. Song Yuehua then had a deep feeling that she had indeed arrived in ancient times.

Song Yuehua walked towards a chicken vendor.

"Uncle, do you know where I can buy a milk-producing ewe?"

The uncle uttered an "ah" and then asked uncertainly, "No chicken?"

"sheep!"

Song Yuehua added, "Sheep that can produce milk."

The uncle then said, "Then I only have chicken."

Song Yuehua, "..."

Walking forward, I asked several vendors selling rabbits and ducks, and found out that someone in the next village was raising sheep, but no one knew which family it was.

Since there are people raising sheep, there must be people selling sheep. At the very least, you can always find out by going to a restaurant.

Just as Song Yuehua turned back to look for a restaurant, an auntie selling vegetables called her, "Little girl, I heard you want to buy a sheep?"

Song Yuehua walked up to the old lady and said, "Aunt, I want a sheep that can produce milk."

"What a coincidence!"

It turned out that this aunt's family raised sheep. The ewe had recently given birth and was in the milk-producing period, so she sent the sheep to her daughter's home in the city to provide milk for her grandson to nourish his body.

But my little grandson feels like vomiting every time he smells goat's milk, and no one in the family likes to drink it. Now that someone wants to buy a dairy goat, we might as well sell it for money.

"How much do you want to sell this sheep for?"

Song Yuehua is not very clear about the prices here.

Seeing that Song Yuehua really wanted to buy it, the auntie immediately became excited and praised, "You won't lose out if you buy my sheep. It can produce milk and give birth to lambs. It is fat and strong. It is the best. I think you are destined to be together. I only need three taels of silver."

Song Yuehua didn't want to bargain with her eyes closed, so she asked, "Can I see the sheep first?"

The aunt handed the stall to a vendor nearby to help look after it, asked Song Yuehua to wait, and ran home in a hurry to get the sheep.

During the time she spent guarding the vegetable stall, Song Yuehua had some understanding of the prices here.

A bunch of ordinary green vegetables costs between one and three cents, and rare wild vegetables can be sold for up to five cents. A pound of pork is thirty cents, and if you only want the fat, it will cost another five cents per pound.

If you do the math, three taels of silver for a sheep is not expensive.

After the aunt led the sheep over, Song Yuehua tried to squeeze out milk and found it was possible. Then she checked the sheep's eyes and teeth and found that they were indeed in good health.

Song Yuehua was very satisfied and took out three taels of silver from her bosom. The aunt happily took it and said, "Little girl, if you have any questions about raising sheep in the future, just come to me."

The twins' breastfeeding problem has finally been solved.
