Chapter 18

Chapter 18

In the lobby of Defu Inn, Zhou Xuanqing and others sat casually at the window seats. When breakfast was served, Tang Mitang started to eat the buns left and right like a hungry wolf pouncing on its prey.

Zhou Xuanqing was drinking porridge with a spoon, but Tang Mitang touched her arm and looked at her in confusion.

"Miss, this lava bun is delicious, please try it." Tang Mitang opened his mouth with a mouth full of food, his cheeks puffed up as he spoke, and his eyes sparkled as he looked at her.

Zhou Xuanqing took it as if possessed by a ghost and took a bite.

She had never eaten breakfast so early before, and usually she was still in the morning court.

The quicksand buns are really good.

"Miss, this steamed dumpling is also delicious. It has corn in it." Tang Mitang saw that she had finished eating the lava bun and handed her another dumpling.

Zhou Xuanqing took it and ate slowly.

Tang Mitang nodded in satisfaction and glanced at Xuanyi who was standing across from her. She was a good person working hard today! Don't try to kill her all the time!

Tang Mitang was trying hard to eat, but she didn't notice Zhou Erlan's gaze.

Zhou Erlan was confused by Tang Mitang's casual interaction with the imperial sister. Didn't the imperial sister often beat and kill palace maids? Why was she so close to Tang Mitang?

Song Henian also looked at Tang Mitang. He remembered that day in the Imperial Garden, she had slapped Chang Xi, and neither Chang Xi nor the emperor said anything. Why did he suddenly feel a sense of crisis?

"Sister, let me investigate what happened last night!" Zhou Erlan looked at Zhou Xuanqing with a firm face and said.

"Okay, you go with Henian." Zhou Xuanqing nodded and agreed readily.

After everyone went to rest, Zhou Erlan took Song Henian away and asked the innkeeper.

"Hey! Boss, do you have a fortune teller here?" Song Henian said with a faint smile, waving a fan.

"Yes!" The shopkeeper looked at the two men. They didn't look like the kind of people who were seeking medicine from a fortune teller, but they were dressed like people from wealthy families. He said, "The fortune teller lives in the woods outside the town. Go out and turn right. After a few minutes, you'll see a wooden house when you enter the woods."

"Thank you, boss!" After Song Henian said this, he took Zhou Erlan with him and went there.

Zhou Erlan looked at Song Henian with some confusion and asked, "Could the white shadow from yesterday be that witch?"

"I don't know. Let me go and take a look first. Then I can sleep well when I come back." Song Henian yawned after saying that.

The two walked quickly, feeling a little uncomfortable that the streets weren't as dusty as they had been at night. Then, remembering that everyone who had left the house this morning had cleaned up first, they found it strange.

"Song Henian, when you asked that citizen this morning why he was cleaning, what did he say?" Zhou Erlan poked his arm with his sword and asked.

Song Henian glanced at him, a sly look flashed in his eyes, and he said with a grin, "Do you really want to know?"

"Stop talking nonsense and speak quickly." Zhou Erlan looked at him impatiently, rolling his eyes.

"Oh! Then I told you. He said! It's windy at night, and there's a piece of land outside, which will be blown in by the wind. If you don't sweep it during the day, you won't be able to walk!" After Song Henian finished speaking, he unfolded his folding fan, fanned it slowly, and cast a coquettish glance at the woman on the side of the road.

Zhou Erlan kicked him speechlessly, rolled her eyes at him and walked forward.

Flirting with other women! How could the imperial sister be so short-sighted?

The trees were so dense that they almost blocked out the sun, leaving only patches of light between the intertwining leaves. The grass was also growing haphazardly, like an old, abandoned forest.

"Master Lan, why do I feel it's getting more and more eerie as we walk? Is that shopkeeper lying to us?"

"Not really, there's a wooden house ahead!" Zhou Erlan said hesitantly at first, but suddenly caught sight of a wooden house among the weeds.

"This... is hidden too deeply!" Song Henian curled his lips, twirled his fan, patted his robe, and strode towards that direction.

"Hey! Is anyone there?" Song Henian swept away the grass with a fan and raised his hand to knock on the door.

Zhou Erlan looked at the grass beside the house warily. If there was something hidden in there, it would not be easy to see!

"Hiss~" A slight sound was heard. Song Henian stopped knocking on the door, his eyes froze, and he turned his head to look at Zhou Erlan.

"Hiss~" the sound rang out again, Zhou Erlan drew out his sword and shot it towards the bushes. A red snake spitting out its tongue was nailed to the ground and twisted its body.

The door of the wooden house suddenly opened and an old voice was heard.

"Who hurt my grandson?"

An old woman with a red cape and a hat came out. Although her face could not be seen, she was still scary. Her exposed hand was holding a redwood snake stick, and her wrinkled and loose skin was covered with black spots.

The old man walked up to the snake, pulled out the sword, picked up the snake and walked into the house.

He reached out to close the door with his crutch, but was caught by a foot. Looking at the owner of the foot, the old man snorted coldly.

Zhou Erlan awkwardly withdrew his foot and was about to speak when he heard the old man say, "Get out of here, little brat. Let your sister come."

"Ah? What do you mean?" Zhou Erlan tilted his head in confusion. How did this old woman know that he had a sister?

However, the only answer he got was the sound of a door closing.

Zhou Erlan touched his nose awkwardly and looked at Song Henian.

Song Henian shrugged and waved his hands, "It's not me. I didn't talk to her."

Zhou Erlan rolled her eyes and turned to walk forward. With Song Henian's intelligence, how did he become the Shaoqing of Dali Temple?

This old woman is really weird, please ask my sister to come and take a look!

No, why did she specifically ask the Imperial Sister to come? Would this old woman want to hurt the Imperial Sister?

Zhou Erlan was lost in thought the whole way, ignoring Song Henian. After returning to the inn, hesitantly wandered around the door of Zhou Xuanqing's room.

My imperial sister followed me yesterday and didn’t rest on the way up. It’s been less than an hour. How could I disturb her?

"Sir? What are you doing? Peeping at the young lady sleeping?" Mu Tou's careless voice came over, frightening Zhou Erlan so much that he grabbed his sword and hit him! Why did this bastard wake up so early?

"Ah! Young master, I am still a patient!" Mu Tou shouted with gritted teeth.

Tang Mitang rushed out first, with disheveled hair and resentful eyes, like a female ghost. She bared her teeth at the wood and said resentfully: "Don't you know that you shouldn't disturb people's sweet dreams? Believe it or not, I say..." I'll slap you to death!

Before Tang Mitang could finish her words, the door next door opened and Zhou Xuanqing came out with sleepy eyes.

Tang Mitang licked her lips and stopped talking. She couldn't swear in front of the emperor; she was a lady. But...they were both woken up from their sleep, so why was Zhou Xuanqing so much more handsome?
