Chapter 21 is very special.

Compared to Qingyao's fatal act, Xiao Ji, the person directly involved, reacted rather calmly.

Bathed in the glow of the streetlights on South Street, his cold, handsome face was even more captivating.

His eyes were still deep, but less frightening and sharp. His thin lips were slightly pursed, as if he was considering how to address Shang Changge.

Shang Changge believed that one should be understanding, so she used a combination of understanding and mischievousness to defuse the situation:

"Brother Ji, why are you ignoring Jiaojiao?"

Xiao Ji: ...

Xiao Ji looked at Shang Changge, a hint of amusement flickering in his eyes.

Their tall, robust bodies drew close, and they lowered their voices so that only they could hear each other.

"Princess, stop fooling around."

Shang Changge wouldn't listen; his interest was heightened by a rebellious streak and a tendency to push his luck.

Long eyelashes fluttered, a smile brimming on her lips; she fabricated stories out of thin air, utterly audacious.

"Brother Ji is going shopping with Jiao Jiao? That's great!"

"But Brother Aji is too eye-catching, let's find a shop and ask for a private room."

After saying that, she turned and walked to Xiao Ji's side, reaching out to grab his arm.

Ignoring Xiao Ji's momentary stiffness, and without giving him a chance to refuse, they half-dragged him towards a storytelling teahouse.

Qingyao: ...Deadly: ...

The two were nearly petrified, and could only numbly lift their feet to follow in the footsteps of their two masters.

Teahouse

The teahouse waiter recognized Xiao Ji, and his initial shock turned to astonishment when he noticed Xiao Ji was with a girl.

Then, Xiao Ji glanced at them coldly, and they suddenly awoke from their dream, suppressing their fear and gossip, nodding and bowing to welcome the group to the private room on the second floor.

Private room

Shang Changge's claws, which had offended Xiao Ji, remained firmly planted, and he sat close to him.

She acted as if she had an unspeakable intimate relationship with Xiao Ji, as if afraid that others wouldn't misunderstand something.

Shang Changge: "Four pots of flower tea, a plate of candied fruit, and some melon seeds..."

After ordering, she pushed the menu to Xiao Ji and continued in a sweet, coquettish tone, "Brother Ji, is there anything else you'd like to order?"

Xiao Ji was used to being concise, never uttering a single word before his expression changed upon meeting the woman's beautiful, intrigued eyes:

"No need, just have some."

His mellow voice was calm and inexplicably captivating.

Shang Changge didn't insist any further and gestured to the waiter that they could leave.

The waiter obediently left, completely dazed. He walked a long way after closing the door before regaining his senses, then darted downstairs like a monkey.

Damn it, he had to tell everyone this earth-shattering gossip right away: a girl has taken a fancy to their Qingyan's God of Slaughter General!

Good heavens, that's terrifying!

Why was that girl so desperate?

Inside the private room,

Not recognizing Shang Changge, Duoming felt he needed to go outside to calm down, so he said to himself:

"General, I will go out and keep watch."

Xiao Ji: "Hmm."

Before leaving, Duoming winked at Qingyao, trying to take her with him.

Although I don't know what story the general has with this girl he's never met, it's ultimately a good thing that the general's marriage is on the horizon.

Qingyao turned a blind eye.

She's not leaving; she's staying to protect the princess!

Deadly: ...

I don't know him, so I can't just drag him away. Never mind, let him go on his own.

With a ruthless guard outside, it's much easier to talk.

Shang Changge no longer clung to Xiao Ji's arm or sat close to him; she resumed the elegant and dignified posture befitting the eldest princess of Qingyan.

As if nothing had happened, he smiled and asked, "How did General Xiao recognize me?"

Xiao Ji ignored the faint, lingering fragrance of peonies that remained even after the woman had left his side. Answer:

"The first time the princess looked at me in front of the Drunken Flower Pavilion was quite special."

Just as Shang Changge was about to ask what was so special about it, Xiao Ji spoke first.

"The princess's eyes revealed her resentment and a defiant eagerness to challenge her minister."

Shang Changge: ...Is it that obvious?
