Chapter 15 A Grand Dream of Spring and Autumn

Aunt Guo was humiliated in public and was seething with anger. She said sarcastically, "So you've made it big now and look down on the Guo family! You're not still thinking about Lin Tanhua, are you? I advise you to stop dreaming."

Yang Cui's face was full of anger: "Aunt Guo, the one who is dreaming is not me, it is you."

Aunt Guo's expression changed drastically: "What do you mean by that?"

The short aunt, always eager for drama, laughed and explained, "Your family's desire to marry her as a daughter-in-law is just a pipe dream!"

Aunt Guo was furious, and she cursed loudly, "You really think you're made of gold, that my Guo family can't do without you? You're a worthless woman no one wants, who are you trying to impress! Bah! You don't want to get married, but who knows if you're secretly meeting with some other man at home!"

Yang Cui was furious and angrily rebuked, "Aunt Guo, you've been a widow for five or six years. Could it be that you haven't remarried because you're secretly meeting with other men at home?"

Aunt Guo's triangular eyes widened in anger: "You bitch! I'll tear your mouth apart!"

With a "thud," Wen threw the kitchen knife in her hand onto the cutting board, furiously shouting, "You old hag! Are you tired of living? Coming to my niece's house to cause trouble! With a mother-in-law like you, what woman would be blind to become your daughter-in-law! You want to fight? Come on!"

Wen's rolled up his sleeves and got to work!

An Dafu glared at Aunt Guo: "If you go out and spout nonsense, ruining my niece's reputation, I'll bring some people to smash up your house!"

The An family brothers also put down their work, stood up, and were not afraid of a fight!

At this moment, the woman who came with Aunt Guo advised, "Let's forget about it, let's go."

"It was supposed to be a good thing to arrange a marriage, but it turned out like this. It's all a misunderstanding."

Yang Cui added, "I have nothing to lose, so I'm not afraid of anyone who's wearing shoes. If anyone dares to go out and spread rumors and ruin my reputation, don't blame me for being impolite!"

Yang Cui's words were a warning to Aunt Guo, and also to everyone else. These women loved to gossip and spread rumors. Who knew what nonsense they would spout outside of this door?

"We're busy at home today, so we won't keep you any longer. We're busy too!" Madam Wen directly issued an order to leave.

In Wen's view, this was a secret recipe, and they couldn't let others steal it.

Aunt Ai was a gossip and always liked to take advantage of others. As soon as she entered the door, she took some peaches without any hesitation. Before leaving, she also took five or six peaches with her, saying that she would take them back for her grandson.

A few peaches, nothing valuable, and we're all neighbors, so even if we're unhappy, sometimes it's really hard to say too much.

The women had all left, but Lin Daya hadn't. She was shrewd and had already guessed that Yang Cui and the An family might be doing something to make money.

Yang Cui took a peach and a handful of plums and gave them to her: "You should go back too, we need to get to work."

"Auntie, how about I help you?"

Lin Daya is usually incredibly lazy; she wouldn't even pick up a fallen broom. How could she possibly want to help? Who would believe she has nothing to hide?

"No need, you're from an official family, I wouldn't dare order you around. Hurry up and go, we're busy."

After Lin Daya left, An Dafu said, "Xiaocui, Daya seems to have changed. She's much more sensible than before."

"Uncle, don't be fooled by that girl's appearance."

Wen said, "Yes, it's probably that old hag Fan who sent her to gather information. I could tell she wasn't a good person just by looking at her eyes."

——

When Lin Daya returned home, Madam Fan immediately came over and asked, "Why did you come back empty-handed?"

Taozilin Daya was eating by herself, and she gave the bunch of plums to Fan Shi. When Fan Shi saw it, she was furious and cursed viciously: "You stingy bitch! Hundreds of pounds of fruit, and you only give me a few? Aren't you afraid of choking to death if you eat so many!"

After she finished scolding, she still took the few plums from Lin Daya's hand.

There are relatively few fruit trees in Ji'an Village, so people don't usually get to eat fruit. Only a few families have some orange trees, but it's not orange season now.

"Grandma, I just heard that those peaches and plums aren't for eating. My aunt and uncle are making money from them."

"What?" Madam Fan exclaimed in surprise.

In her mind, Yang Cui was destined to live a life of loneliness, poverty, and misery, a life worse than death. Doing business? Making money? How could that be acceptable? Absolutely not!

Then, Lin Daya added, "She's even thinking of remarrying my father!"

"What?!" Madam Fan exclaimed in shock. "She's dreaming!"

Fan stormed to Yang Cui's door and yelled at her, "Yang Cui, you bitch, get out here right now!"

Er Ya and San Ya shivered instinctively when they heard the voice.

When An Dafu saw that it was Fan Shi, he angrily put down his work and rushed over: "You old hag, how dare you come here! My niece has nothing to do with you now, what are you yelling for?"

Wen walked over, knife in hand: "You old bastard, are you bullying our Xiao Cui because she has no family?"

Madam Fan was not afraid at all. She angrily retorted, "Yang Cui, let me tell you, my son doesn't want you anymore. Our relationship is over. Don't even think about entering the Lin family again. If you still want to marry my son, you're dreaming!"

"I wouldn't marry someone like you, the Lin family, even if you were carried in a sedan chair! Lin Shikang is an ungrateful wretch and a gigolo, and you think you can make me marry him again? Where do you get your confidence?"

After she finished speaking, Yang Cui's gaze fell on Lin Daya. Yang Cui was certain that this girl had gone back and told Fan Shi nonsense, otherwise Fan Shi would not have come to visit so quickly.

"Who's a gigolo? Stop talking nonsense!"

"Looks like your precious son didn't tell you the truth..." Yang Cui said sarcastically.

"What truth?"

"Why should I tell you? Get out of here. If you piss me off, I'll go around telling everyone how ungrateful your Lin family is and how they bullied us orphans and widows." After saying that, Yang Cui looked at Lin Daya and said, "Lin Daya, don't come to my house again. You're so young, yet you've become a gossipmonger. You haven't inherited any of your mother's good qualities."

Lin Daya was scolded, and her eyes were filled with tears.

When she started doing business, a bunch of busybodies would come in to inquire, and the Lin family never had a moment's peace. Yang Cui thought that as soon as she had money, the first thing she did was build a two-meter-high wall to keep these people out. They never stopped bothering her, it was so annoying.

Er Ya and San Ya hated Da Ya because of this; it was all Da Ya's fault that their mother got scolded again!

——

At noon, the sisters Xiaotao and Xiaoli brought fifty pounds of clean perilla leaves.

"You washed it so clean, thank you." Yang Cui checked it over and then gave the two sisters the money. The two sisters were overjoyed to receive the money.

"Auntie Xiaocui, do you want it again tomorrow?"

"No tomorrow, but I want thirty jin the day after tomorrow."

"Then my sister and I will go pick them first thing the day after tomorrow."
