Sunlight streamed down the city wall as Jin Linlin and Cao Jiao stood side by side, a gentle breeze ruffling their hair. Jin Linlin gazed into the distance, her thoughts drifting back to the moment they had just crossed over.
Cao Jiao noticed Jin Linlin's gaze. She turned her head and looked at Jin Linlin's increasingly beautiful face, and a sense of guilt surged in her heart.
"Linlin, we really didn't give up on you at the beginning. We thought you were dead, so..." Cao Jiao's voice was a little low and a little helpless.
Jin Linlin looked at her expressionlessly, her tone still cold:
"Cao Jiao, let the past be the past. We have come this far. There is no point in talking about the past."
Cao Jiao hurriedly explained:
"But after all, you suffered so much because of us. My second brother and I owe you an apology."
Jin Linlin waved her hand, seemingly unconcerned.
"None of this matters anymore. I asked you to come here today because of Dabao's matter. Don't mention anything else."
When Cao Jiao heard about Dabao's matter, her lips became a little dry. She opened her mouth, but found that she could not say anything.
Jin Linlin was very disdainful of their actions:
"That child is sensible and considerate. Since you and your wife don't want him, just give him to me. He has been growing up by my side since he was a child."
Jin Linlin looked at Cao Jiao seriously, as if she had made up her mind to have the child.
Cao Jiao was a little flustered when she heard this. She hurriedly explained:
"We just want him to give way to his younger brother. We didn't treat him unfairly."
Jin Linlin disagreed and retorted:
"We are modern people. Haven't we seen enough of these dramas about real and fake daughters online, on television, and in novels? The source of all these tragedies is parental favoritism.
I don't believe you don't know. Besides, Dabao and Erbao are both your own flesh and blood. How could you have the heart to say such a thing as asking Dabao to give way to Erbao?"
Cao Jiao's face flushed red after hearing what Jin Linlin said. She lowered her head and stammered:
"I... I was confused for a moment. Thinking that the second child was still young and weak, I didn't pay much attention to the first child."
Jin Linlin sneered and said mercilessly:
"Confused? This isn't confusion, it's partiality. Don't forget, Dabao is your child too. He needs love and fairness, too."
Cao Jiao raised her head, her eyes full of confusion:
"Linlin, I know I was wrong, but Dabao is Shuyan and I's child after all. I really can't bear to give him to you."
Jin Linlin's eyes were firm:
"Cao Jiao, if you really couldn't bear to let him go, you wouldn't be so partial. I can give Dabao a fair environment to grow up in, so that he won't suffer any grievances. Can you? Can you swear that you can give Dabao a healthy environment to grow up in?"
Cao Jiao bit her lip, struggling internally.
Jin Linlin sneered:
"I have rejuvenation pills and tonic pills. I only want Dabao. Don't worry, he will always be Jiang Jingxing. I just want him to grow up healthily. I just can't bear to see him grow up into a dark person in such a distorted environment."
When Cao Jiao heard this, she took a few steps back and slowly knelt on the ground:
"When did our relationship become one of mutual threats and mutual exchange of benefits?"
She didn't care what she meant:
"As long as these two pills are here, your second baby will be healthy and strong and live to old age. It's fair!"
Jin Linlin looked at Cao Jiao kneeling on the ground, her eyes not wavering at all:
"This isn't a threat, it's a deal. If you agree, the eldest will grow up well, and the second will be healthy. If you don't agree, the second will only get worse."
Tears welled up in Cao Jiao's eyes. She knew what Jin Linlin said was true. She looked up at Jin Linlin, her voice trembling:
"Linlin, I promise you, but you must treat Dabao well."
Jin Linlin nodded slightly in agreement, her voice gentle but firm:
"Don't worry, I will treat him as my own son and give him love and care."
Cao Jiao slowly stood up, her movements hesitant, as if she were carrying a heavy burden. She gently adjusted her clothes and took a deep breath, as if trying to calm her inner turmoil.
"You don't have to describe my family in such a terrible way, such a twisted environment. That's a bit of an exaggeration."
There was a hint of dissatisfaction in Cao Jiao's words, but her tone was still restrained.
Jin Linlin raised her lips slightly, revealing a faint smile. She took out two pills from her sleeve and handed them to Cao Jiao:
"Here are the Rejuvenating Pill and the Tonic Pill. Give them to Erbao. As for your family situation, the father is neither a father nor a mother. Isn't that twisted? To say it's twisted is a compliment."
Cao Jiao stared at the two pills, hesitated for a moment, and finally reached out to take them. She held the pills tightly, as if they were her last straw.
The sunlight streamed through the window onto them, illuminating the scene and temporarily bringing the transaction to an end.
However, just as Cao Jiao turned around and prepared to leave, Jin Linlin's voice came again:
"You should be well aware that I will eventually unify the world. Therefore, you'd better carefully consider your future path.
If you can submit to me in advance, I can reserve a throne for you and let you continue to enjoy wealth and glory. But if you wait until I reach your doorstep, then surrendering will be meaningless."
Cao Jiao stopped suddenly, her eyes widened and her brows furrowed, obviously shocked and angry at Jin Linlin's words.
"For the sake of our past friendship, can't you leave that state for me?" Her voice was pleading.
