Chapter 128 Follow-up

An hour after Cao Jiao and Jiang Shuyan were rescued by Jiang Zhixu, Xia Heng knelt at the door of the imperial study and apologized.

Outside the imperial study, sunlight filtered through the clouds, illuminating Xia Heng. He appeared somewhat lonely and forlorn. He knelt quietly, motionless, as if the world had nothing to do with him.

Jin Linlin was in the imperial study, ignoring Xia Heng's presence. She sat at her desk, her pen moving across the paper, seemingly busy with something important.

Chunxue slowly walked out of the imperial study and stood in front of Xia Heng:

"His Majesty didn't say he wanted to see you, and I don't know what His Majesty is thinking. However, she didn't lose her temper after learning about the execution ground. You'd better not provoke her."

Xia Heng nodded, still not getting up. His knees were numb from kneeling, but he persisted. He knew he had made a mistake and needed to express his apology and determination in this way.

At this moment, Jin Nianchu and Dabao came back from class. They saw Xia Heng kneeling in front of the imperial study from a distance, looked at each other, and then walked into the imperial study stealthily.

In the imperial study, Jin Linlin was lying on a Luohan bed, covered with a thin quilt, seemingly asleep. Her face still had a hint of fatigue, clearly exhausted by recent events.

Jin Nianchu and Dabao quietly walked over to Jin Linlin, one leaning against her side, their eyes red, obviously having just cried. They looked at Jin Linlin sleeping soundly, their hearts filled with heartache and helplessness.

"The Queen Mother is already very tired. Why can't Daddy stand firmly by her side?" Jin Nianchu said softly, with a hint of sob in his voice.

"Yeah, how could Second Uncle do this?" Dabao also agreed. It was obviously his mother who did something wrong.

Jin Linlin seemed to feel something in her sleep. Her brows furrowed slightly, but she quickly regained her composure.

Time passed, night gradually fell, and the light in the imperial study grew dimmer. Jin Linlin finally slowly opened her eyes. She saw the two little kids sleeping beside her, and a smile played on her lips. She hadn't slept so peacefully in a long time.

Hearing the sound coming from inside, Chunxue and Qiuyu looked at each other, then gently pushed open the door and walked in.

In the room, Jin Linlin was sitting at the table, the food in front of her untouched.

"Your Majesty, you didn't eat lunch, so you should eat something at night!" Chunxue said softly.

Jin Linlin slowly raised her head and looked at Chunxue, forcing a smile. "Okay, I understand."

Qiuyu hurried forward to hold Jin Linlin's hand and asked with concern, "Your Majesty, are you feeling unwell? Do you want to call the imperial physician to see you?"

Jin Linlin shook her head. "No need. I'm just a little tired. Let Xia Heng go back! Tell him it won't happen again."

Qiuyu nodded quickly in response, then turned and walked out.

A moment later, Haruyuki walked in with two children behind him. Seeing the children, Jin Linlin's smile finally took on a more genuine tone.

"Come, Nianchu and Dabao, come and sit down to eat." Jin Linlin greeted the children gently.

Jin Nianchu and Dabao walked to the table and sat down obediently, while Jin Linlin personally served them rice and dishes.

No matter how busy she is every day, Jin Linlin will take time to have dinner with her two children. This has become a part of her life.

However, the atmosphere today was somewhat heavy. Jin Linlin was silent for a moment, then suddenly said to Jin Nianchu, "Nianchu, your father and I have finally separated. From now on, just pretend he doesn't exist!"

Jin Nianchu's eyes suddenly turned red, and the bowl and chopsticks in her hands fell to the table with a "clack". She suddenly threw herself into Jin Linlin's arms and burst into tears: "Queen Mother, I will listen to you. But I still feel so sad!"

Seeing this, Dabao also hurriedly put down his chopsticks, ran to Jin Linlin, held her hand tightly, and comforted her: "Second Aunt, don't be sad, my sister and I are here with you!"

Jin Linlin gently stroked the two children's hair and tried to make her voice sound calmer: "Be good, I'm fine. Come, let's continue eating."

It's time for her to cheer up! The world has not yet been unified, and so many countries are still in chaos. She must work harder to incorporate all these chaotic countries into the territory of our Shangjin Kingdom!

As for Jiang Zhixu, he could leave if he wanted. It was a shame, since he was a talented general who could lead troops in battle. However, Cao Jiao was a real nuisance, always causing Jin Linlin a lot of trouble.

In the mountains thirty miles outside the city, Jiang Zhixu was taking Cao Jiao, Jiang Shuyan, Erbao and Jiang Wangmo to take a rest in the woods.

After Jiang Zhixu rescued the two men from the execution ground, he did not dare to delay for a moment. He rushed out of the city gate and walked non-stop all the way to where he is now.

It was not until the secret guard came to report that the empress had not sent anyone to chase them that Jiang Zhixu breathed a sigh of relief and stopped to let everyone eat something to replenish their strength.

"I have built a manor in the Ziling Mountains, thousands of miles away from Cangwu City. It's very remote, far away from the hustle and bustle of the world. I have prepared food and servants for you in the manor. There will definitely be more than enough. You can go there and live there with peace of mind."

Seeing that there were indeed no pursuers, Jiang Zhixu told them all his arrangements.

Jiang Shuyan stared at his brother with a guilty look on his face, his eyes showing deep apology:

"Brother, I'm so sorry. You've made such a huge sacrifice for our family. Time and time again, I'm afraid my sister-in-law doesn't want to see us anymore. Come with us and leave this sad place."
