Jin Linlin squatted beside the rockery, staring at Jiang Shiwei with a sharp gaze, thinking to herself that there was something strange about their second daughter. Judging from her appearance, she must have been transported or reborn. Judging from her performance today, the latter was clearly more likely.
Could it be the Fourth Prince who would eventually ascend the throne? He was so eager to plot against the Fourth Prince that Jin Linlin couldn't help but wonder. But what did this have to do with her? She was just a cold spectator. His Majesty was long-lived; the male protagonist was still on the throne when he was fifty.
There was no point getting involved in the open and covert struggles between these princes. Just then, Jin Linlin seemed to sense a gaze like a thorn falling on her. She turned her head abruptly, and her eyes happened to meet Cao Jiao's. Startled, Jin Linlin thought to herself, "Why is she here?"
Cao Jiao moved slowly to her side like a ghost and said softly, "Shh! Don't make a sound. I don't know how Jiang Shiwei died. Her eyes are full of resentment. It's best if we don't have anything to do with her."
Jin Linlin breathed a long sigh of relief and decided to wait and see how the situation unfolded before making any further decisions. Perhaps she could even gain some advantage from this fight. Thinking of this, the corners of Jin Linlin's mouth curled up slightly, a sly look flashing in her eyes. She continued to hide behind the rockery, closely watching Jiang Shiwei's every move.
In the second room, Jin Linlin and Cao Jiao sat at the table. Nanny Bai skillfully prepared a table full of sumptuous dishes for them, and filled a glass of pear blossom white for each of them. Then she tactfully withdrew, leaving space for the two of them to talk.
Jin Linlin elegantly lifted the wine glass and took a sip. Cao Jiao followed suit, taking a sip before putting down her glass and saying in a low voice, "You said Jiang Shiwei has been reborn. Who knows what kind of earth-shattering commotion he'll cause in the future. We have to be careful."
Jin Linlin sneered, "What are you afraid of? If she dares to provoke us, we won't be pushovers."
As they were talking, they suddenly heard a commotion outside the door, as noisy as a vegetable market. Aunt Bai ran in in a panic.
She said hurriedly, "Oh no, Second Madam. The First Madam somehow found out that you and Third Madam are here, and she is leading a group of people here." Jin Linlin's eyes turned cold, as sharp as a cold star. She quickly stood up, straightened her clothes, and walked out.
"You're just in time! I want to see what she wants to do." Cao Jiao also stood up and followed Jin Linlin closely. As soon as the two of them walked out of the door, they saw Gu and a group of maids and servants coming in aggressively. Jiang Shiwei was next to Gu.
Jin Linlin's eyes flashed when she saw Jiang Shiwei, and then she looked at Cao Jiao. Cao Jiao nodded slightly to her, indicating that she would watch over her.
Gu glanced at the two leisurely sisters-in-law with her eagle-like sharp eyes and sneered:
"You two brothers and sisters seem to be in good spirits, even enjoying a drink. Are you celebrating the success of your conspiracy?"
"What conspiracy? We're just having a meal together, why is sister-in-law so aggressive? What's the point?"
Gu was furious and said, "Did you go to the rockery in the garden in the evening?"
"Just say what you want to say, and don't talk nonsense." Cao Jiao scolded sternly.
"I went for a walk in the evening and found a large patch of chrysanthemum oil on the gravel path in the corridor. I stepped on it and almost slipped. If my second sister hadn't helped me in time, I'm afraid the baby in my belly would have been lost. Since you can't have children yourselves, you don't want me to get pregnant, so you want to prevent this child from dying, right?"
Gu was furious and accused them righteously.
"Second Master and Third Master have only been back from the battlefield for a few days. How can you say we're infertile? Furthermore, how can you be so sure that we were the ones who spilled the oil? Do you have any evidence?"
Jin Linlin was both angry and amused. Was this sister-in-law truly so clueless? Didn't she realize that she was being used as a pawn by Jiang Shiwei? What exactly was Jiang Shiwei trying to do?
"You're all well aware of the exorbitant cost of making this chrysanthemum oil. You're the only one in the house who uses such expensive shampoo; no one else can afford it. Furthermore, we found your jade hairpin in the bushes, and a maid even witnessed you and your third sister-in-law squatting together. I wonder what you were plotting? With so much evidence before our eyes, you still dare to deny it? I never imagined you could be so vicious."
Gu pointed at them with her trembling hand, her body shaking slightly with anger, as if she was extremely scared.
Jin Linlin knew that the people around her had probably already betrayed their master. Even if they cried out for justice, the investigation would eventually lead back to her servants. After all, this was ancient times, and the actions of servants were determined by their masters, right?
Jin Linlin glanced at Cao Jiao, and Cao Jiao also pursed her lips. They both understood each other and realized that they had fallen into a trap and were being plotted against.
However, what good would this result do to Jiang Shiwei? They didn't seem to have any deep hatred!
"Tell me! What exactly do you want to do? We have no involvement in this matter, so you'd better take care of yourself! You have been used as a gun." Jin Linlin still wanted to give her some advice.
Gu picked up the handkerchief, gently pressed her lips, held her belly with her hand, slowly walked to Jin Linlin's side, leaned close to her ear, and whispered softly:
"Anyway, my child is safe and sound. I don't care whether you did it or not. Even if you didn't, it's still you who did it. Just guess, if I spread this, how will Grandmother punish you? I'm carrying the eldest grandson in my belly, how will my father-in-law feel? If you want me to keep silent, then spend your money!"
