Chapter 64 Internal Troubles

On the second day after the Empress passed away, the Emperor of Song sent an imperial edict, first expressing his grief and deciding the Empress's title as Empress Kangren.

Jin Linlin and Cao Jiao returned home and slept all day, then went to the palace to keep vigil in the evening. In the palace, the candlelight flickered and the atmosphere was depressing and heavy.

Jin Linlin and Cao Jiao stood before the coffin, their expressions solemn. Cao Jiao furtively glanced at the futon placed in front of them. Jin Linlin immediately understood and touched the futon, which was filled with densely packed needles.

Jin Linlin was startled, but remained calm. She whispered to Cao Jiao, "Someone wants to harm us."

Cao Jiao gnashed her teeth and said, "Who is so insidious?"

Fortunately, I didn’t kneel down directly, otherwise my knee would be broken.

Jin Linlin placed her palm on the futon, used her consciousness, thought about "collect", and all the needles in the futon were sucked into the space.

She imitated the tiger and drew the cat, sucking all the needles in Cao Jiao's cushion into the space.

Jin Linlin knew that now was not the time to make a scene. The Queen had passed away and the harem was in chaos. If they made a scene in the mourning hall, it would be disrespectful to the Queen and would only make them known to have bad character.

Jin Linlin and Cao Jiao knelt down again to continue keeping vigil, but their eyes were always fixed on these people. Only the wife of Duke Mu of the Duke's Mansion glanced at their cushions several times.

Jin Linlin and Cao Jiao nodded to each other, and it was most likely her.

Jin Linlin handed the four needles to Cao Jiao and asked quietly:

"Can you hit her at this distance?"

"Of course you can. I really like your vindictive character." Cao Jiao took the needle and hid her hand inside her cloak.

"Wait a moment! Wait until she leaves the palace and gets on the carriage before you do it." She held Cao Jiao's hand tightly, as if she was afraid that Cao Jiao would suddenly act impulsively.

Outside the Imperial Palace in the early morning, the ladies of state from various mansions were returning to their respective residences. The streets were remarkably quiet, with only the occasional clatter of horses' hooves and the rolling of wheels.

The carriage of Duke Mu's mansion was moving slowly, the curtains tightly closed, but a faint cry of pain could be heard from inside. Although the sound was not loud, it was particularly abrupt on the quiet street.

She and Cao Jiao looked at each other and couldn't stop laughing. Who told her to plot against others first?

The carriage that Jin Linlin and Cao Jiao were riding in finally arrived at the Duke of Zhenguo's Mansion. As soon as the carriage stopped, Jiang Shuyan quickly supported Cao Jiao and carefully got off the carriage.

The group hurriedly walked into the mansion, and before they had time to catch their breath, they were suddenly blocked by a woman in a white dress.

The woman had a graceful figure and a pretty face, and her plain clothes made her look even more pitiful.

She stood there quietly, like a blooming white lotus, making people feel pity and love for her.

"Greetings to the Third Master, the Second Madam, and the Third Madam." She opened her red lips slightly, spoke in a gentle voice, and bowed gracefully.

Jiang Shuyan had also been on guard all night last night, and he was already in a bad mood. Seeing this Concubine Rou suddenly appear, he asked in a bad mood, "What are you doing here so early in the morning?"

Concubine Rou was not in a hurry. She raised her head and looked at Jiang Zhixu with her big watery eyes, as if she was crying and complaining. She said softly:

"Third Master, I know that Madam stayed up all night last night, so I woke up early and asked the cook in the courtyard to prepare some breakfast. Thinking that you must have been tired all night, I wanted to serve you breakfast so that you can relax."

Cao Jiao raised an eyebrow, thinking, is this a man trying to intercept Jiang Shuyan right in front of her? How brave?

Cao Jiao was in a good mood and wanted to tease Jiang Zhixu. She looked at him pretentiously:

"Husband, my belly is so big that I really can't serve you. Since my sister has prepared the meal, let's go to her place!"

Jiang Shuyan glared at Cao Jiao angrily, gritting his teeth and saying, "Alright, we're all tired after a night. Stop blocking the way and go back to your yard."

After saying that, he went to support Cao Jiao, walked around Rounu, and headed towards Buhuaxuan. Jin Linlin smiled and glanced at their backs, and also helped Chunxue back to Zhiyuanju.

Second room Zhiyuanju

As soon as Jin Linlin returned to her own territory, she collapsed on the bed like a puddle of mud, mumbling:

"This vigil is really not a job for humans!" Seeing this, Nanny Bai quickly ordered the maids to prepare water for her feet and some to give her a massage. Soon, Jin Linlin fell into a deep sleep.

When she woke up again, her knees didn't hurt anymore, but her stomach was growling with hunger. Chunxue and Qiuyu saw their mistress was awake and hurried in to help her wash and change clothes.

"Madam, Yinzi and Yinping have brought some delicious food from the farm. Would you like to try some?"

Jin Linlin squinted her eyes and said lazily, "They are quite thoughtful. How are they doing after marriage?"

"They are all at Madam's farm. Who would dare to treat them badly?"

"That's good. Let's go and have dinner!" Jin Linlin yawned loudly and walked slowly to the dining room.

The good thing about traveling through time and space and becoming a noble lady is that you don’t have to do anything yourself. Just say a word and someone will naturally do it for you.

Just as she sat down to eat, Jiang Shiwei came over. When Jin Linlin saw Jiang Shiwei, she bowed to her and said, "Have you eaten? Do you want to eat something together?"

Jiang Shiwei looked at the dark circles under Jin Linlin's eyes and thought to herself: Is she too tired?

"Sister-in-law, did I disturb your meal? I found out something and wanted to tell you, but I didn't expect you were eating." Jiang Shiwei scratched his head a little embarrassedly.

"It's okay. We ladies from outside the royal family only have to guard the spirit for three days. It's not too tiring. What's the matter with you?" Jin Linlin looked at Jiang Shiwei curiously.
