Jin Linlin sat upright in the carriage, quietly waiting for Jin Si and Jin Ke to come out of the Imperial Examination Hall.
Nine days passed in a flash, but fortunately, neither of them was carried out halfway.
Jin Linlin sat leisurely in the carriage, savoring the exquisite snacks while casually flipping through the letter in her hand.
Jiang Shiwei stuffed this letter into her hand before she left. As she had been busy these days, she had actually forgotten about it until she suddenly remembered it today.
She unfolded the letter and saw that it detailed the identity of the late emperor's illegitimate son and the whereabouts of the military token.
However, Jin Linlin was not very interested in these things. She thought that when Jiang Zhixu came back, she would let him deal with these troublesome matters.
Not long after, the gate of the Imperial Examination Hall slowly opened, and many students staggered out.
Some people staggered as if they would fall at any time; some people even fainted at the door, and the scene was a little chaotic for a while.
Jins and Jinke were among them, their faces pale as paper, their steps unsteady, their heads heaving, and they looked extremely weak. Seeing this, Haruyuki quickly directed the servants to come forward and support them.
Jin Linlin looked at their grim expressions, feeling somewhat worried, but she said nothing. She simply waved her hand silently, signaling the servants to quickly help them onto the carriage.
As soon as Jins and Jinke got on the carriage, they collapsed onto the seats as if they had lost their support and soon fell asleep. When the carriage arrived at its destination, they were still sound asleep and were eventually carried back to their rooms.
Seeing this, Jin Linlin couldn't help but sigh, "I just said they were in good health, but I didn't expect to be slapped in the face in the blink of an eye."
Haruyuki covered his mouth and laughed secretly:
"The two young masters must be exhausted, and you are making fun of them." The maidservant beside them said with some anger.
"Alright, alright, I'm just glad to see them out."
After being told this by the maid, Jin Linlin felt a little embarrassed and quickly changed the subject:
"Go and tell the kitchen to have the ginseng chicken soup ready at all times. Tell the servants to keep an eye on it. If the two young masters have a fever, quickly ask Aunt Zi to come and see them."
"Yes, I'll go right away." The maid replied, turned around and left quickly.
Jin Linlin watched the maid go away, and then she returned to Zhiyuanju with peace of mind. As soon as she entered the house, she saw Dabao had woken up, and was looking around curiously with his big black eyes.
Jin Linlin walked forward with great joy, gently held Dabao in her arms, then kissed his pink cheek and said softly:
"Be good, Dabao, do you miss your aunt?"
Dabao seemed to understand what Jin Linlin said and started giggling, his little hands constantly grabbing Jin Linlin's hair.
"Should we bask in the sun today?" Jin Linlin asked Dabao with a smile.
The nanny beside him also smiled and said, "Yes! If you accompany him every day, he will definitely come to you at this time!"
"Really? Dabao knows Second Auntie?"
After hearing what the nanny said, Jin Linlin was so happy that she hugged Dabao and threw him into the air happily, which made Dabao giggle.
"I wonder what's happening with his parents? They've been gone for so long and there's no news. Maybe they ran into Second Master on the battlefield."
Aunt Bai laid a carpet in the yard for Dabao and placed Dabao on it:
"The Emperor has so many troops that we may not be able to encounter them. I think the Third Madam and the Second Master will not be able to hurt each other even if they do."
Jin Linlin sighed:
"I feel sorry for Dabao. His parents aren't around. When he grows up and becomes sensible, I don't know how to explain this to him."
As she spoke, she turned around, looked at Aunt Bai with resentment on her face, and continued:
"Should I tell him that his parents both abandoned him for Xiaobao?"
After hearing this, the nurse's eyes became red and she couldn't help but sigh in her heart:
"Who says it's not? This child is so pitiful! Fortunately, his second aunt treats him as her own son and takes good care of him."
Meanwhile, in the Ouyang Mansion, the entire Ouyang family had become unusually low-key since Empress Ouyang's passing. This year, none of the family's children even took the imperial examinations.
In the main hall of the Ouyang Mansion, Ouyang Jin was kneeling before the eldest lady, head bowed, silent. From childhood to adulthood, this scene had become all too familiar to him. Whenever his mother showed the slightest displeasure, she would make him kneel here as punishment, and beatings and scolding were commonplace.
Suddenly, a teacup flew towards Ouyang Jin and hit him squarely on the head. With a loud bang, the teacup shattered instantly, shards flying everywhere, and a deep wound was also smashed on Ouyang Jin's forehead. Blood immediately flowed down his cheek.
Seeing this, the eldest lady not only showed no mercy, but became even more furious. She stood up, pointed at Ouyang Jin, and said sternly:
"You're a fourth-rank official now! Why are you running to the front lines instead of staying in the capital? Are you tired of your peaceful life now?"
The eldest lady's voice was extremely harsh, her chest heaving violently with anger, and her eyes were full of cruelty. She stared at Ouyang Jin as if she wanted to eat him alive.
"I don't want to stay in the capital. I feel like I'm suffocating. I'm going crazy under your control. I don't want to see you." Ouyang Jin looked at his biological mother hatefully.
