Before anyone knew it, the day of the results had quietly arrived. In the early morning, before dawn, a bustling crowd had already gathered outside the Imperial Examination Hall.
Among them were the candidates, their relatives and friends, and the general public who had come to watch. Everyone was waiting with anticipation and anxiety for the government to post the list of successful candidates.
Jin Linlin was well aware of the importance of this moment, so she had someone book a private room right in front of the Imperial Examination Hall. This room had an excellent location, and with the windows open, she could see the entire Imperial Examination Hall.
Jin Linlin brought Jin Si, Jin Ke, and the five-year-old Fourth Master Jiang Yiyun with her. She hoped to see with her own eyes whether her two younger brothers would pass the imperial examination.
Jiang Yiyun was particularly excited today because he had been studying hard in the academy every day and hadn't been out to play for a long time. He looked around curiously, feeling fresh about everything around him.
"Second sister-in-law, will the two brothers from the Jin family make the list?" Jiang Yiyu blinked his big eyes and asked innocently.
Jin Linlin looked at her two brothers, who appeared calm on the surface but were actually so nervous that their legs were trembling slightly. The corners of her mouth curled up slightly, her eyes narrowed, and she deliberately kept it a secret: "Then you'll have to ask them themselves."
Jiang Yiyu seemed dissatisfied with the answer. He moved a stool and placed it next to the window. Then he nimbly climbed onto the stool, stood on it, stood on tiptoe, and tried to look down.
There were crowds of people below, jostling each other, it was very lively.
Jiang Yiyu's attention was attracted by an old man. The old man was very old, with wrinkles all over his face, but he still insisted on taking the imperial examination.
"Second sister-in-law, is studying really a lifelong thing? You're still taking exams at such an old age."
"For a family like ours, if you are sure, then you can take the exam. If you are not sure, then ask your brother to donate an official position for you. We won't let you take the exam until you are old."
Jiang Yiyun curled his lips:
"Second sister-in-law, don't fool me. Officials who donate money have no real power and cannot be promoted. How can they compare to those who pass the exam themselves?"
"Oh, you know another one? You've made progress. You're right. He's a disciple of the emperor. If he gets into the top three, he'll be a candidate for the cabinet."
As he was speaking, a noise was heard in the distance and a crowd began to surge.
"The results are out! The results are out!" someone shouted. Jin Linlin and the others immediately became nervous. Jin Linlin tightly held her two younger brothers' hands and whispered to them:
"Don't panic, just do your best."
Jiang Yiyu also jumped down from the stool, his eyes fixed on the entrance to the Imperial Examination Hall.
Several yamen runners came out carrying a huge golden plaque and slowly posted it on the wall of the Imperial Examination Hall. A crowd immediately gathered around, all eager to see the results firsthand.
Jin Linlin asked Jin Si and Jin Ke to go downstairs and take a look. They took a deep breath and ran downstairs quickly. Jiang Yiyun also ran downstairs, while Jin Linlin waited anxiously in the private room.
After a while, Jiang Yiyun came back excitedly, shouting, "Second sister-in-law, Brother Jin has won!"
Jin Linlin was delighted and quickly walked to the window to look down. Sure enough, she saw Jin Si and Jin Ke standing in front of the gold list with joyful smiles on their faces.
"What about the ranking? It's too far away to see clearly?"
“Second sister-in-law, Brother Jins is ninth and Brother Jinke is twentieth. That’s amazing.”
Jiang Yiyu answered her questions with a bright look and admiration in his eyes.
There were also waves of cheers and blessings from the crowd. Jin Linlin's heart finally settled down, knowing that her two brothers' efforts had not been in vain.
Jin Linlin is very happy for her two younger brothers:
"Hurry... hurry home. I guess the officials will be home soon. Prepare the silver and copper rewards so that we can have some fun together."
Sure enough, not long after arriving home, officials came to announce the results of the list, and Jin Linlin was so happy that she gave them a big red envelope.
After the announcement, Jin Linlin warmly entertained the officials. Immediately afterwards, the mansion became lively, and people came to congratulate one after another.
While Jin Linlin was busy entertaining the guests, she also asked the servants to prepare a sumptuous banquet.
She also donated a lot of rice and flour to poor families outside the city in the name of the Jin family, and donated a lot of incense money to the temple.
After a busy whole day, I can finally have a quiet dinner with my two younger brothers in the evening.
"The palace examination will be held the day after tomorrow. If nothing unexpected happens, you will become Jinshi. The Prince of Jin is currently the regent, so he will probably set the questions for the palace examination."
Jins picked up a piece of braised pork with chopsticks:
"Sister, should we stay in Beijing or take up our posts in the local areas?"
Jin Linlin thought for a moment:
"More than half of the candidates for this imperial examination will be sent to the front lines. The emperor and his men have conquered many areas and are in urgent need of officials to govern them."
Jinke was very excited:
"What about us?"
"Actually, it's not a good time to stay in Beijing. If you stay, you will be the disciples of the Prince of Jin and naturally belong to the Prince of Jin's faction. The Emperor's return will definitely weaken the Prince of Jin's power, and you will definitely be the first to suffer. I think it's better to go to the countryside."
Jin Linlin slowly analyzed the political situation to them.
"If you don't want to go to Dong Jinguo on the front line, after the palace examination, you can spend some money and use your connections to return to Jiangnan to take up a position."
Jins and Jin Ke both nodded, thinking about where to go. It depends on their own choice. The thing that their Jin family has the most is money, so it would not be bad to return to Jiangnan to take up a position.
"Dad will definitely be very happy if he hears the news. After the palace examination is over, no matter where you are appointed, you must pass the imperial examination and return home. You must go back once. Then your family and clansmen will know."
Jin Linlin wanted to laugh at her father whenever she thought of his grinning face.
