Jin Linlin and her group walked out of Lujia Village in a grand manner. On the road outside the village, the empress's dragon chariot and the accompanying palace maids and guards had been waiting for a long time.
The dragon chariot was golden in color and richly decorated, demonstrating the majesty of the royal family. The empress stood beside it, her clothes fluttering and her posture graceful, like a fairy descending to earth.
The reason why she came in person was that she wanted to take her daughter and Dabao back personally to see what had happened to them in the past few years?
So, she asked Aunt Zi to board the dragon chariot with Dabao and Nianchu. The chariot was extremely spacious, and it was more than enough to accommodate four people.
At this moment, Chunxue and Qiuyu hurried back from the village and reported to the Empress:
"Your Majesty, in accordance with your will, we have rewarded the villagers who have cared for them over the past few years with food and silver."
The Empress nodded slightly, expressing her satisfaction, and then ordered, "Well, very well done. Let's set off. Have Mo Qi and Mo Ba follow the dragon chariot and await my orders."
Chunxue responded and mounted her horse. Qiuyu went to convey the Empress's orders to Mo Qi and Mo Ba. After everything was arranged, they set off in a grand procession.
The dragon chariot moved slowly forward, its wheels rolling and making a slight noise. Perhaps due to the fatigue of the journey, Jiang Nianchu felt drowsy soon after getting on the chariot and fell asleep soon after.
Seeing this, Dabao was afraid that she would catch a cold, so he quickly took out a small quilt from the luggage bag next to him and carefully covered Jiang Nianchu with it.
Although Nianchu was already fast asleep, her hand seemed to be sensitive and she held Dabao's hand tightly.
Jin Linlin saw this scene and felt a warm current in her heart, and her originally tense nerves gradually relaxed.
She turned to look at Aunt Zi and asked softly, "Aunt, what happened in the past few years? Why are they hiding in such a remote place?"
Aunt Zi sighed and said slowly:
"Not long after we escaped from the capital, the world fell into chaos, with wars everywhere. Later, we encountered bandits and many people died. Then news came from the capital that the city had been occupied by rebels and everyone inside had died.
I didn't dare bring them to live in the city, fearing they would attack and kill us, so we found a remote village and settled down there.
After hearing this, Jin Linlin frowned, her heart filled with guilt and self-blame.
"I'm the one who made you suffer." Her voice was low and full of heartache.
Aunt Zi hurriedly comforted her: "Madam, don't blame yourself. It's best that we can be together safely now."
At this moment, there was a sudden noise outside the dragon chariot, and Mo Qi hurried over to report:
"Your Majesty, the road ahead is blocked by a group of refugees." Jin Linlin frowned and stepped out of the dragon chariot to investigate. She saw a group of ragged refugees, their eyes filled with despair and exhaustion.
"Give some of the supplies we brought to these refugees." Chunxue took the order and left.
After handling the matter, the dragon chariot continued to move forward. Jiang Nianchu also woke up slowly during the bumpy ride. She rubbed her eyes and saw Jin Linlin, a hint of surprise flashed in her eyes.
Jin Linlin gently touched her head and said, "Nianchu, let's go back to the palace. We will never let you suffer again."
Jiang Nianchu nodded heavily and snuggled up to Jin Linlin, his heart filled with warmth and peace.
Jin Linlin glanced at Dabao and waved her hand for him to sit over.
"Dabao, I'm not your mother, I'm your second aunt. You and Nianchu are cousins."
Dabao lowered his head in dismay after hearing this. Nianchu quickly grabbed his brother's hand and comforted him in a baby voice:
"Brother, I will always be your sister, please don't abandon me."
Dabao raised his head, his eyes slightly red, and looked at Nianchu seriously and said:
"I won't abandon you. No matter what, I will always protect you."
Jin Linlin looked at this scene, feeling relieved, and comforted softly:
"Dabao, don't worry. No matter your status, Second Aunt will treat you like her own child."
She stroked Dabao's hair gently and comforted him.
Seeing that Dabao's mood had stabilized a little, Second Aunt heaved a sigh of relief and continued:
"Dabao, your full name is Jiang Jingxing. Your mother is Cao Jiao, and your father is Jiang Shuyan. Your mother is now the Emperor of Yan Ning of the Yan State in Ningzhou! You also have a twin brother."
Dabao's eyes widened, and he seemed a little surprised by the information. Second Aunt continued:
"When you were only one month old, you were unfortunately kidnapped by criminals. In order to save your younger brother, your parents had no choice but to entrust you to me.
After so many years, it won't be long before your parents know I've found you, and they'll definitely come back to pick you up."
Dabao listened to his aunt's words, his lips tightly pursed. After all, he was only five years old, and faced with such a situation, he really didn't know how to deal with it.
After a while, he finally mustered up the courage to ask, "Second Aunt, can I not go with them and stay with you?"
She looked at Dabao's innocent yet slightly confused eyes, and felt a pang of sadness in her heart. She sighed softly:
"Dabao, if you are willing to live with my second aunt, I will be extremely happy and blessed. After all, you are my child, and my feelings for you are like those of a real mother and son.
My child, I also understand that your parents are also very eager for you to return to them and live with them. As parents, they have the right to raise you and love you, which cannot be deprived.
Although I love you very much, I can never replace the place your biological parents hold in your heart.
