Chapter 238: Dinner

In the Zhao family courtyard, the prey that Zhao Luochuan brought down from the mountain were all alive. A deer had been sent to the canteen yesterday. The remaining pheasants had their legs tied and were locked in the kitchen. Several fat rabbits were locked in cages. Yang Donghu went to the back of the house to pick a handful of relatively fresh green grass for them.

Zhao Luochuan had already thought of the dishes for the wedding banquet. He ordered a whole pig from a pig farmer in the village. It was unfortunate that he came in time. If he could wait until after the Chinese New Year, the pig would be fat and half of it would be enough for a banquet.

The pig is not fully grown yet, and anything Zhao Luochuan buys will cost a lot of money. There is no need to be stingy at the banquet, so he just buys the whole pig.

Apart from the people in the village, Zhao Luochuan only had a few familiar friends, such as Ning Yang's brother and sister in the town, and Zhang Lanzhen's family in Dayang Village. He had no uncles or aunts, and apart from being close to Zhu Cuilan's family, he had no other relatives.

By this calculation, about ten tables are enough. The ribs from a whole pig are enough for stewing a large bowl of soup for each table. There are also braised pork belly and pig offal, so at least four meat dishes can be served.

In addition to the pheasants and rabbits he brought this time, no one in the surrounding villages could compare to his family's abundance of food.

When the pig was taken to the butcher's house, everyone in the village was staring at it. Seeing that he bought a whole pig, they were even more looking forward to the banquet. The butcher's business had been average in recent days. Everyone knew that they were going to the Zhao family's banquet to eat meat, so they held their wallets tightly and waited for the banquet to satisfy their cravings.

While the men were moving the new bed cabinet, Yang Donghu stayed at home to clean up the house. Zhao Fangchu was waiting to see the new bed and came over to help him.

The bed in the east room had been carried out. Since there was no spare space in the room, it was placed in the yard first, so that the moldy air that had not seen the sun for a long time could be dried out.

A bed is not cheap, and the one they sleep on is pretty good. The bed frame is sturdy and will not break even after a few years of use.

Things are precious in the village, and Yang Donghu was reluctant to dismantle his old bed to use as firewood. There was a small house on the left side of the kitchen, with just enough space for a bed.

Zhu Cuilan tidied up the little room, taking out the dusty things to make room for the bed.

Yang Donghu wiped the bed clean with a rag and placed it in a corner of the yard to dry.

The cabinet in the room was small, so Yang Donghu took out all the clothes and put them on the bed in the west room. The old lady had nothing to do, so she tidied up the scattered clothes.

The room was dry and dusty when sweeping, so Yang Donghu first poured water on the ground so that it wouldn't be too choking when sweeping.

"We're back, we're back!"

The sound of men shouting outside the house came. Even though Yang Donghu had seen these items in the carpenter's house before, when he really put them in the house, Yang Donghu still felt that this bed was extremely exquisite.

Li Zihong was younger than Zhao Luochuan. When he saw Yang Donghu, he immediately shouted, "Sister-in-law, look where all this is. We can carry it inside."

Yang Donghu cleaned up the house and told Zhao Luochuan to just put things back in their previous positions. The men coming and going were all strong, so Yang Donghu stood at the door and thanked them one by one.

According to Yang Donghu's wishes, the bed was placed in its previous position, next to the window for easy closing. The cabinet was placed on the other side together with the table. Yang Donghu didn't have many jewelry, hairpins, and cosmetics. She didn't need her dressing table and mirror yet, so she kept them in the cabinet first.

As soon as Zhu Cuilan saw them coming back, she hurried back to her yard to prepare the food. If they were willing to come and help, they had to fill their stomachs.

"This bed is bigger than the previous one. Now that summer is over and the mosquitoes are still strong in autumn, we can just drape the tent over it and save the trouble of hanging ropes. After we get married, we can also buy a few feet of curtains and hang them on the frame. That way, no one can see what's going on inside even if we live in the same room."

Yang Donghu couldn't let go of the frame, but he could hear the implication of Zhao Luochuan's words, what else could he do in bed.

The man who helped was tactful. After carrying the bed and the cabinet, he followed Zhu Cuilan to the next yard to drink tea without disturbing the couple's private conversation.

Although he knew that no one was in the yard, Yang Donghu still whispered as if afraid of being overheard: "Auntie gave me moxibustion, saying it can drive away the cold in my body. It has been almost a month and a half, and I feel much better. I heard that in the future..."

He spoke more and more quietly. Zhao Luochuan couldn't hear him clearly, so he lowered his head and moved closer. After he heard clearly, he chuckled softly, his face full of joy: "Is that really what you said?"

"Yeah." Yang Donghu nodded with a blush in his cheeks, a smile in his eyes: "I just said it would be easier, I didn't say it would definitely be."

Since they were alone, Zhao Luochuan hugged her and gave her a big kiss: "We agreed before, if you have it, then you have it, if not, then just treat it as a conditioning. I only want you in this life."

In the past month, Zhao Luochuan ran up and down the mountain several times and didn't stay at home. These words made him angry and he hugged the person and didn't want to let go.

"Don't hug me, there are a lot of dishes to cook. I'll go help my aunt. Everyone is waiting for you outside. Dig out a jar of wine from the ground and drink it later. Thank them properly, okay?"

The two of them talked in the room for a long time. They really shouldn't have stayed in the room all the time. Zhao Luochuan let the person go very reluctantly. Before leaving, he pulled the person and insisted that Yang Donghu agree to his mischief in the evening.

Yang Donghu couldn't break free without nodding, so he just nodded silently, agreeing to his ridiculous words.

When the two men came over, the men gathered together and joked. They couldn't pull the boy over and say dirty words, but Zhao Luochuan couldn't avoid it. I don't know what someone said, but I heard Zhao Luochuan laughing and scolding, "Get out!", and there was another burst of laughter outside.

Zhu Cuilan was not stingy. She fried more than a dozen eggs laid by the chickens at home with chili peppers. She was reluctant to kill the hens for laying eggs, but she had a rooster at home that had been raised for a long time, and it would not be as regrettable to kill it as it would be to kill the hen.

The rooster weighed seven or eight pounds and was raised on grains and vegetable leaves. There was a thick layer of yellow fat under the skin. Zhu Cuilan soaked the dried bamboo shoots and mushrooms that had been dried earlier and stewed them together with the rooster. She added some vermicelli when the rooster was about to be served.

Corn pancakes were placed around the pot, and the meat tasted delicious when cooked with thick oil and sauce. The young men were in their prime, and their eyes lit up when they saw the meat, and they kept eating with their chopsticks.

"It's delicious, really delicious. Auntie, please sit down and join us."

Zhu Cuilan smiled and waved her hand: "No, no, you guys eat, don't be polite, is there enough wine?"

"That's enough, sorry to bother you, auntie."

A pot of chicken could barely fit into a bowl, so Zhu Cuilan left a bowl of chicken and a few corn tortillas in the kitchen for the two little brothers to eat together.

Zhao Luochuan did not forget to give Lin Zhi the wild chicken he promised after drinking the wine. Lin Zhi felt a little embarrassed to eat and take it, so Zhao Luochuan forced it into his hand.
