Chapter 63 Little Chick

The six-poster bed not only makes the bed stronger and more stable, but also looks more luxurious.

Zhao Luochuan thought for a moment and decided on a six-poster bed. Beds are used for a long time and don't need to be replaced every two years, so it's worth it even if the price is a bit higher.

The same goes for the cabinets. A rectangular top-standing cabinet has two doors that open opposite each other. It is tall and can store a lot of large objects. There is a vertical bolt between the two doors and a horizontal partition inside. Thick quilts in winter and clothes for changing seasons can all be stored in such a cabinet.

The price of ceiling cabinets is high. Except for the occasional people in the town who make custom orders, there are basically no other people who make them. Zhao Luochuan has placed many orders, and they are not cheap. He talked to the carpenter and asked if he could give him a lower price.

The carpenter thought that this was a big deal and the price could not be changed, but he still relented and said that he could give a small box as a gift.

Zhao Luochuan looked at the drawing on the cabinet. The cabinet was not big, and was engraved with round coin ornaments and the two immortals of harmony and unity all over. It was the carpenter's intention. Zhao Luochuan did not continue to bargain for the price. He paid a deposit and ordered a set of dressing mirrors for his brother to use.

Before leaving, the carpenter's mother asked him if he wanted some chicks. They were newly hatched and were going to be sold in town anyway. If Zhao Luochuan wanted them, she would give him a few. Compared with the cabinets and beds he had ordered, they were not worth much.

When Zhao Luochuan took Yang Donghu to the mountains to catch fish in the autumn, he thought about raising some poultry at home. The grass on the mountain was lush and a basket of grass would be enough for them to eat for a while.

He thanked the old lady and borrowed a bamboo basket from her to carry the chicks. Zhao Luochuan didn't bring anything when he came. Although the weather had warmed up a little, if he walked all the way with the chicks in his arms, it would be difficult for them to survive.

The chirping of the chicks was very cute. Yang Donghu squatted down and reached in to touch their newly grown down. He had never raised these little creatures before, so he was very careful in his movements.

Zhu Cuilan had chickens at home, so Zhao Fangchu wasn't very curious. He looked at them for a while, felt bored, and went back.

"There are six chicks in total. Grandma specially picked four females. When they grow up and lay eggs, we can collect the eggs and eat them ourselves." Zhao Luochuan and Yang Donghu squatted down next to each other and said with a smile.

Yang Donghu's wish to raise poultry was fulfilled, and he smiled even more. He replied, "We can't eat all the vegetables in our garden, so we can just pick them and chop them up to feed them. After the 15th, we'll sow more vegetable seeds so we don't have to go to the mountains to pick weeds."

The yard became more lively with a few more chickens. The temperature was still low at night, so Zhao Luochuan carried the bamboo basket into the kitchen and did not put out the charcoal fire left over from boiling water in the stove, so the temperature would not be too low at night.

There was no chicken feed at home, so Yang Donghu fed the chickens a small spoonful of cornmeal mixed with chopped vegetables.

Yang Donghu found some tattered clothes he brought back from the Yang family and covered the bamboo basket with them. He waited until the chicken fell asleep and stopped moving before quietly leaving the kitchen.
