Yang Donghu was smart and walked forward without looking back. He was infected by the lively scene around him and felt particularly happy.
After walking a few steps, Yang Donghu came across a vendor selling sugar figures. His attention was instantly attracted. On the stall, various sugar figures were strung on bamboo sticks of different sizes. The vendor was holding a wooden spoon filled with brown-red syrup.
There was a small square table on the stall, with a piece of oil paper and a bamboo stick placed upright on the table. The vendor twisted his wrist and drew a few strokes on the paper seemingly casually. After it cooled a little, he raised the bamboo stick and a lifelike rabbit appeared before his eyes.
Yang Donghu was amazed by his technique. When the rabbit took shape, he let out a cry and subconsciously turned his head to look at Zhao Luochuan.
Zhao Luochuan was slightly stunned by Yang Donghu's intense gaze, but then he immediately reacted and asked the stall owner with a smile, "How much is this?"
"The big one is five cents, the small one is three cents."
"Then help me get the rabbit I just drew." Zhao Luochuan took out five cents from his pocket and handed it to the stall owner.
"Okay." The stall owner took the money swiftly, took down the bamboo stick and handed it to Yang Donghu, adding, "We can also draw pictures by ourselves here. Any picture is fine. It's five cents each. Would you like to try it, gentlemen?"
Yang Donghu was a little moved when he heard this and turned his gaze to Zhao Luochuan.
Yang Donghu almost never asked for anything on his own initiative, so there was no reason to refuse such a small matter. Donghu's happiness was more important than anything else. Zhao Luochuan paid another five cents and let Yang Donghu try it out.
The stall owner took the money, made room with a smile on his face, and handed the spoon to Yang Donghu.
It was Yang Donghu's first time painting sugar, and his movements revealed a certain lack of experience. The stall owner reminded him, "You have to put the syrup on quickly and in one stroke, otherwise it will dry up on the spoon and become a big lump when you put it on again."
It looks simple, but when I really start to draw, I always feel that my hands are not under my control. Yang Donghu has no talent for painting, and he doesn't want to draw animals that are too difficult. He just wants to draw a simple pig. But not only is the head not round, but the eyes are also one big and one small.
Zhao Luochuan couldn't bear to see the frustration on his face, so he walked around behind Yang Donghu and offered his help, adding two relatively symmetrical ears to the non-round head.
This can be considered a completed sugar painting. Yang Donghu excitedly held up the sugar painting to show Zhao Luochuan.
Zhao Luochuan praised it, "Not bad, it looks really good."
The stall owner twitched his lips and said, "What's so good about it? People should be honest, don't you know?"
"Not bad, not bad. I've been setting up the stall here for such a long time today, and this is the best-looking one among all the paintings I've made." The stall owner clapped his hands and praised.
Yang Donghu held a candy rabbit in one hand and a candy pig in the other, attracting the attention of passing children.
There was still a long way to go, so the two of them didn't delay any longer and continued walking forward.
Zhao Luochuan spotted a familiar figure in the crowd. He quickly took Yang Donghu and caught up with him, patting him on the shoulder. "Ning Yang."
Ning Yang turned around and was pleasantly surprised to see Zhao Luochuan: "Dachuan? You're so free during the New Year? Bringing your husband to the temple fair?"
"That's right, it's just in time for the fun."
Ning Yang was holding a delicate baby in his arms. The baby was not afraid of strangers. He was babbling with his mouth open, saliva flowing down his chin, and stretching out his hands to be held.
"Is this your child?" Zhao Luochuan asked.
Ning Yang smiled and said, "You're asking that. I'm not even married yet, so how could I have such a big child? It's my sister's. She left the child with me and went out to play. The shop was too stuffy, so I took her out for a walk."
Zhao Luochuan reached out and tickled the baby's face, praising, "How adorable! Sister Can is in town too? I didn't thank her properly last time."
Ning Yang rocked the baby in her arms and said, "Oh, it's just a small matter. By the way, you happen to be free today. I've made the trap you mentioned before. Would you like to try it?"
"So fast? That's great, it saves us from having to make another trip."
Having asked Ning Yang for help last time, Yang Donghu was not so reserved now and followed the two men to the blacksmith shop.
The animal trap made this time was different from the previous ones and had some improvements. Ning Yang was not satisfied with just talking about it, so he put the baby down and demonstrated it to Zhao Luochuan in person.
The little baby refused to give in. He left the warm embrace, opened his mouth and cried loudly, his little face red from crying.
Ning Yang put down the trap again and came over to pick up the child, but his hands were dirty and had to be washed again, so he looked flustered.
Yang Donghu inserted the sugar man into the gap of the wooden table and reached out to pick up the baby.
The crying suddenly stopped. Ning Yang said thank you gratefully and concentrated on demonstrating to Zhao Luochuan how to use the trap.
The baby was sweet and soft, and there was a smell of milk in his arms. He didn't care whether Yang Donghu smelled familiar or not, and smiled as he reached out to touch Yang Donghu's cheek.
Yang Donghu leaned his face forward for her to touch, and his little hands scratched his face randomly. At this time, her hands were still weak, and the scratches on his face were gentle, like tickling, and did not hurt.
The big and the small were having fun, and the baby was giggling as if talking to Yang Donghu.
After studying it for a while, Zhao Luochuan figured out how to use the trap.
The modified clamp has a stronger bite force and closes faster. If the prey takes a wrong step, it can directly injure the bones.
Zhao Luochuan was very satisfied. He thanked Ning Yang, paid the money, and went outside the house to find Yang Donghu with the finished animal trap.
At that time, Yang Donghu was playing happily with the baby and didn't notice someone was staring at him.
Zhao Luochuan looked at Yang Donghu holding the child and his heart moved.
