"Mom, Dad and brother are back."
When Zhu Cuilan heard the sound, she put down the work in her hands and hurried out from the kitchen.
The work in town is very busy, and each time I am away, I have to stay for a month or two. Although Zhao Fangyu is old enough to live his own life, no matter how old a child is, he is still a child in his mother's heart. What mother would not love her own child?
Zhao Fangyu put down his luggage, saw Zhu Cuilan, and called out, "Mom."
Zhu Cuilan looked him over carefully, her eyes red with worry, and she kept muttering, "You've been away for so long, you've become darker and thinner. How's the food at the host's house? Where's the sleeping place? It's been so cold these past two days, and I don't know if the clothes I brought you last time are enough."
Zhao Fangyu let her pull him around, looking around. Listening to his mother's nagging, he smiled and said, "Mom, everything is fine for me. The work this time is not tiring, and the owner is generous. The food and sleep are good, and the money is enough. I earn a lot."
Zhu Cuilan wiped her eyes and looked at Zhao He again. Seeing that he was normal, she nodded repeatedly, "Okay, okay, that's good. It's cold outside. Come in quickly. I made dumplings for you. I know you like the ones stuffed with cabbage, so I put a lot of meat in them. You can eat them after they are served. Come in and have a rest."
Zhao Luochuan walked in, took the wash basin and went into the kitchen. Seeing Yang Donghu lighting the fire, he asked, "Is the meal ready?"
Yang Donghu heard Zhao He and Zhao Fangyu coming back outside, and his body, which had been relaxing, became tense again. When he heard Zhao Luochuan ask him, he answered honestly, "We can serve it as soon as the pot boils."
Zhao Luochuan nodded and scooped a bucket of water to wash his hands.
Zhu Cuilan came in from outside and said to them, "Donghu, put it there and I'll burn it. Dachuan, take Donghu to identify the person."
As he said that, he pulled Yang Donghu up and pushed him out of the kitchen.
After all, Zhao Luochuan and Yang Donghu are now husband and wife, which is a good thing and should make the uncle happy.
Zhao Luochuan noticed Yang Donghu's nervousness, patted his back with his big hand, and whispered, "Don't be nervous, uncle and brother are very nice people. They are happy for me when they know I have a husband, and they won't make things difficult for you."
Yang Donghu looked up at him, feeling the warmth on his back, and he didn't seem so nervous anymore, so he nodded.
Zhao He sat on a stool and dusted himself off.
Zhao Fangyu packed up the things he brought back from the town and specially bought a bag of chestnut cakes to bring back. Zhao Fangchu snuggled up to his brother, smelling the scent like a puppy, his eyes fixed on the bag of chestnut cakes.
Zhao Luochuan led Yang Donghu into the house and introduced him: "This is my uncle."
Then he said to Zhao He, "Uncle, this is Donghu."
Yang Donghu called out obediently, "Uncle."
On the way back from the village, Zhao He also heard a general idea of it. Although he knew that this matter had nothing to do with Yang Donghu, he still felt a little uneasy.
He was afraid of wronging Zhao Luochuan, but Zhao Luochuan himself said that he was willing to do it. Everything else was secondary; living a good life was the main thing.
Zhao He was usually not good at speaking, so he just sighed in response to his call.
Then Zhao Luochuan introduced: "This is Brother Fang Yu."
"Brother Fang Yu."
"Why."
Zhao Fangyu didn't think as much as his father did. He just knew that getting married was a good thing and they would be family in the future. His attitude was more enthusiastic than his father's.
After introducing the people, Zhao Luochuan exchanged a few pleasantries with the two of them.
Yang Donghu was pulled by Zhao Fangchu to listen to him talk about how delicious the chestnut cake was.
"Wash your hands and get ready for dinner."
Zhao He even took out the wine he had saved, saying he wanted to have a good drink.
On the table, there were steaming dumplings, each with thin skin and big filling.
There is also a plate of the last crop of cucumbers in the yard, which are crushed and mixed with salt and sesame oil. It is refreshing and degreasy, and is a good dish for the man to eat with wine.
During the meal, several people talked about family matters.
"Mom, Dong Ge and I sold hawthorns today. Guess how much we sold them for?" Zhao Fangchu said mysteriously.
"How much?" Zhu Cuilan was also curious. She didn't know what Yang Donghu's price was, but she thought it was about the same as the price of candied haws. When she came back, her basket was empty, so she guessed they were sold out.
Zhao Fangchu didn't say anything and just held up two fingers.
"Twenty cents, that's not a small amount."
"Mom, look at you, why do you look down on others? Brother Dong, tell mom." Zhao Fangchu poked Yang Donghu with his arm and winked at him.
Yang Donghu knew that he wanted him to say a few more words at the dinner table, so he accepted his kindness and said to Zhu Cuilan, "Auntie, I sold two hundred coins today."
Now not only Zhu Cuilan was surprised, but Zhao Luochuan was also shocked.
"Two hundred wen? So much." Zhao Luochuan was incredulous.
The hawthorns were free, and after deducting the cost of the sugar, I made about 160 coins in total.
Zhao Fangyu was confused by what they were saying and asked, "What hawthorn?"
"Brother, you came back late and missed it. The hawthorns that Brother Dong made today were delicious. You must have never eaten them before." Zhao Fangchu talked a lot when he mentioned food, and he kept chattering on and on.
Zhu Cuilan was also happy. Maybe this could really be a job. If things went well, it would be enough to cover daily expenses. She was so happy that she couldn't stop smiling: "Look how proud you are. That's all thanks to your brother Dong. You're showing off."
Although the words were a reprimand, there was no hint of blame in them. Zhao Fangchu didn't care and just stuck out his tongue without saying anything.
Zhu Cuilan smiled and placed a dumpling in Yang Donghu's bowl, saying gently, "You've worked hard today. Eat more."
"Thank you, auntie." Yang Donghu liked the feeling of being recognized and subconsciously glanced at Zhao Luochuan.
Zhao Luochuan was also looking at him with a smile on his face.
