Yun Qiao knew that Zhu Cuilan was anxious. All the children in the village as old as Zhao Fangyu would run away, but he was still single.
As soon as Zhu Cuilan left, Yun Qiao told the man at home to keep an eye on the children and not to get too close to the fire, and then she was about to go to Dayang Village.
Yunqiao's husband felt sorry for his wife and said that he had exhausted himself embroidering shoes and there was no need to rush. It would be in time to wait a day and go tomorrow. If he tired himself out, it would be bad for his health. Aunt Cuilan would feel guilty if she knew about it.
Yun Qiao felt that what her husband said made sense, so she didn't insist on going. After all, she rested at home for a night, and left early the next morning without stopping.
Her husband wanted to go along, but was stopped by Yun Qiao. She said that matchmaking was a matter for girls and boys, so why would a man go along?
Her husband had no choice but to let Yunqiao go after repeated warnings.
Yun Qiao had been to Dayang Village several times and was already familiar with the place. Although she was heavy and could not walk fast, she remembered the route well and did not take the wrong path at all, and she did not lose time.
Just after the Chinese New Year, the women in the village were basically cleaning up the leftover food from entertaining guests. The leftover soup was used to feed the chickens and ducks. It would be a pity to throw away the leftover meat, so they picked it out and heated it up to eat for several meals.
In the yard, Yang Anjin squatted by the well with a bowl of meat in his hand, and Zhang Lanzhen picked out the big pieces of meat in the bowl with chopsticks.
Yun Qiao had a loud voice and her shout startled the people in the yard. Zhang Lanzhen didn't recognize the voice and asked Yang Anjin to go out and see who was coming.
Yang Anjin opened the door and saw a slightly older man who looked familiar but he couldn't remember where he had seen him.
"Who are you looking for?"
Yun Qiao saw that the smile on Yang Anjin's face deepened. He spoke quickly, and long paragraphs popped out like a machine gun: "You must be Anjin, right? You've grown up so much, so beautiful, and look so much like your mother. Is your mother home? I have something to talk to her about."
Yang Anjin nodded, made room at the door for Yun Qiao to enter, and shouted into the yard, "Mom, someone's looking for you."
Zhang Lanzhen heard footsteps and put down her work, looking towards the courtyard gate. Seeing who was coming, she smiled and said, "Yun Qiao? What a rare visitor! How come you have time to come here today?"
Seeing that he was not feeling comfortable, Yang Anjin went into the room and brought a stool for Yun Qiao to sit on before Zhang Lanzhen could say anything polite.
"If you ask me, Auntie, you are better at educating children. Look at An Jin's lively eyelids and pretty face. Go around and ask around in the surrounding villages, and you will find that everyone praises An Jin. Good children are always cared for by others. Look, someone has taken a fancy to our good child and wants me to come over and mediate." Yun Qiao was exhausted from walking all the way, so she sat down while praising him.
A few days ago, a matchmaker came to the house to propose marriage to An Jin. Zhang Lanzhen knew that her brother had reached the age, so she was not as opposed to him as before. But the matchmaker was so cruel that he dared to introduce anyone to her. Her daughter An Jin looked good and had no better conditions, but he dared to propose marriage to a bastard who lay at home doing nothing and whose family relied on his elderly parents to farm.
The matchmaker was full of lies, praising a man no one liked. The man was also a gambler and owed several debts to the gambling house. Fortunately, Yang Anchen moved around the town frequently and exposed the matchmaker's lies.
Zhang Lanzhen was so angry that she almost turned hostile and kicked the matchmaker out. She was very rude in her words and pointed at the matchmaker's nose and told her to get out. She said that such a good marriage should be kept for herself and not to bring trouble to others.
"An Jin, go inside and check if you've finished embroidering today's handkerchief. I want to see it tonight."
Yang Anjin was a man waiting to get married, so it was not good for him to listen to such things in person. If it got out, people would gossip about him. Zhang Lanzhen sent Yang Anjin away and sat in the yard to talk to Yun Qiao.
With the previous experience as a lesson, Zhang Lanzhen's attitude was not so enthusiastic at this moment: "An Jin has just reached the age, I am not in a hurry about this matter. It's not too late for him to talk about it after his brother is determined."
Yun Qiao has been a matchmaker for so many people and has been around so many people. If she didn't have this little bit of sense, she wouldn't have any use for it. He had inquired about it and found out that the matchmaker who had done something excessive a few days ago had gone too far, so it was no wonder that Zhang Lanzhen was unhappy.
Yun Qiao was not annoyed by the cold words, and her face was still smiling: "Aunt, what you said makes sense. An Jin is so good, it's other families who are anxious. After all, An Jin is not old, so it doesn't matter if it's a year earlier or later. There are so many people who want to marry An Jin, why should we worry about this. I know that Aunt is unhappy about what happened a few days ago. You have a good temper. If it were me, I would have torn my face with others long ago. How can I not be angry when my own child is humiliated like this?"
Being a matchmaker isn't something that just anyone can do. Zhang Lanzhen's expression softened slightly after hearing this: "Alas, you don't know how furious I am. Tell me, how can anyone be a matchmaker like this? Isn't this just causing trouble for people? Luckily, my eldest son was careful. Otherwise, if she had been tricked, and the matter had become fait accompli, my Anjin would have had no chance of survival."
Yun Qiao echoed Zhang Lanzhen's words, "That's right. They're really wicked and rotten-hearted. They're willing to be a matchmaker for a family like this. I think they're really obsessed with money."
"Yunqiao, I'm telling you these things because I see you're a real person. I'm just scared. Don't blame me for being harsh. If you're here to act as a matchmaker for a bad guy, then don't bring it up, or we'll end up in an awkward situation."
Yun Qiao's smile remained unchanged. "I'm not that kind of person. Look at me, Auntie. Even if I'm not looking for a marriage, I still have to consider my child. I won't do such a dirty thing. I'm afraid it will ruin my child's fortune. The family that asked me to be a matchmaker today is really good. If I tell you, you should know. You can ask around about his family's reputation. If anyone says anything bad about it, I will leave immediately without saying a word."
