In the low and narrow earthen house, Li Shangcai curled up on a wooden board covered with a torn straw mat.
The tiles on the roof were smashed into big holes by something, and I could even see the stars outside clearly while lying in bed.
Half of the wall of the easternmost of the three tiled houses had collapsed and was scattered on the ground in chaos.
This house can neither shelter from wind nor rain. It was where Li Shangcai and his sister lived before they went to Zhang's house, but it was not so dilapidated at that time.
But ever since Li Shangcai leaped onto the big tree, he had gotten used to living in the big house in the town, where the yards were paved with blue bricks without a single drop of soil visible. How could he still look down on such a shabby house in the village?
If he had renovated the old house when he had money, he wouldn't be without a shelter now.
Li Shangcai was half lying on the straw mat. He should be thankful that it was neither the rainy season nor the cold winter. Otherwise, he might not be able to survive even three days.
Mr. Zhang couldn't bear to see the broken arm, so he had it simply bandaged to prevent the wound from being exposed. However, the pain still made him howl uncontrollably.
In a daze, he only felt his mouth dry, and thought he was still a big shot, so he blurted out subconsciously: "Han Su, go get me a glass of water."
After calling for a long time but no one came, Li Shangcai said hurriedly: "Pour me some water! I think your skin is loose again! Hurry and get over here."
As he spoke, he hit the wooden board beneath him hard with his hand, but accidentally pulled the wound and grimaced in pain.
Just this one move woke Li Shangcai up from the chaos.
Cao'er had disappeared since the chaos. Li Shangcai covered his arm and angrily cursed: "This bitch, I can only share the good times but not the bad times. If it weren't for this bitch, how could I have gone to the casino, and how could I have fallen into this half-human, half-ghost state today? Little bitch, when I catch you, I will kill you!"
He cursed but still felt unsatisfied, and felt suffocated in his heart. He thought of Yang Donghu who framed him, and cursed even more filthyly, using words like "bitch" over and over again.
"Who are you scolding?"
A sudden voice rang out, as if squeezed from between teeth, deep as a demon crawling out of the ground. Li Shangcai's hair stood on end, and he sat up abruptly from his straw mat in fear: "Who? Who is it? Who's talking?"
Zhao Luochuan climbed in from the window. He walked lightly, without making any sound, and stood in front of Li Shangcai like a ghost.
"You, you," Li Shangcai looked at him tremblingly, his mouth open but unable to utter a complete sentence.
"It stinks." Zhao Luochuan frowned. "Your tongue is so dirty, don't you want me to cut it off for you?"
As he said this, he took out a small sharp knife and quickly inserted it into his mouth.
The sharp knife cut the corner of his mouth the moment it entered his mouth, leaving a gash. The cold blade pressed against his tongue. Li Shangcai dared not move, not even to close his mouth. Saliva mixed with blood flowed from the corner of his mouth and covered his body.
"Okay... please spare my life, I won't do it again, I won't do it again."
His tongue was pressed down and couldn't be curled up. If his lips moved a little more, they would touch the blade. Li Shangcai opened his mouth wide and spoke incoherently.
Zhao Luochuan remained unmoved, the tip of the knife still pressed against the root of his tongue. With just a slight turn of his wrist, Li Shangcai would immediately become a tongueless ghost.
Two people coming in from outside interrupted Zhao Luochuan's actions. He retracted the sharp knife, tore the only tattered blanket in the room into long strips, and tied Li Shangcai tightly to the door frame.
Yang Donghu and Cao'er came in from outside. They did not ridicule Li Shangcai's miserable appearance too much. Cao'er stood in front of him and only asked him where Liu Guiyuan was and whether he was really killed.
Li Shangcai had no room to resist and twisted his body twice. He saw the anger rising suddenly in Cao'er's heart, and he forgot his fear for a moment and was unwilling to speak at all.
But when he saw the sharp knife in Zhao Luochuan's hand, he still spoke even though he was reluctant. However, the words he said were a bit disgusting.
"He died a long time ago. Didn't you know that? He was drowned to death. What a feeling! Now? I'm afraid the grass on his grave is already as tall as a man."
Cao'er's eyes turned red as she listened to him speak. Unable to bear it any longer, she picked up the broken stool leg in the house and smashed it hard on his knees: "You bastard, I'm going to kill you!"
He hit it several times, using all his strength each time to vent his anger.
Li Shangcai's screams were like a pig being slaughtered, and they sounded particularly miserable in the secluded place.
Blood slowly seeped out of his legs, and his crotch, which was in pain, was soaked with urine and continued to emit a foul odor.
Zhao Luochuan held Yang Donghu in his arms to block his view, and covered his ears with his hands: "Don't look, it's too dirty."
Cao'er had no rules when beating people. At first he just hit them with his knees, but later he got angry and started hitting wherever he could get his hands on.
Li Shangcai's screams became quieter and quieter, and his breath became weaker and weaker. Yang Donghu quickly poked his head out of Zhao Luochuan's arms and said, "Don't beat him to death. Killing someone and then having to pay with your own life is not worth it."
Cao'er couldn't hear anything at this moment, and his hands didn't stop moving. Yang Donghu broke free from Zhao Luochuan's arms, walked forward and hugged him tightly, snatched the wooden stick from his hand and threw it aside.
"Don't stop me, I'm going to kill him."
Cao struggled a few times and tried to grab the wooden stick. One end of the stick was covered in blood and the color was a little dark.
Yang Donghu hugged him tightly, patting his back repeatedly to comfort him: "He himself doesn't know whether Liu Guiyuan is dead or not. Maybe he is just hiding. Let's look for him, together. I will accompany you, we will accompany you."
